This is, by far, one of the best Pac-Man games I've ever seen. Delightfully short and sweet, great music and sound effects too. And Namco did a great job with co-op play.
I think it's cute how Pac-Man AND the Ghosts, whether they've been eaten or not, rocket into the sky after the level's been completed. If they're stuck in the bag, or dizzy, they get left behind though 😔
I don't think the reset problem has ever been fixed, even on the latest regular version of MAME. The only thing I can suggest is saving a state after each stage and loading it if the game resets. Because it's random, the game likely won't crash twice on the same stage. While the save state feature should work online for both players, if for some reason the host had a different save state, it would desync when you load it.

If you like Pac-Man, try RandomPac. It has been made as faithful as possible to the original arcade version except that the mazes are created randomly (they are different every time) and it contains bonus levels. Download it from lowcarb.itch.io

This and Championship Edition DX+ are my favorite Pac-Man games

Couldn’t you have set the “machine” to FREE PLAY and not have to worry about having to press the add credit button?
The option was there, but it didn't really matter to me. I usually just leave it on the default setting and add the coins. It's not that much trouble.

It's how it sounds on the older version of MAME. I have an older video than this one with even worse sound emulation, which has basically no bass.

how the flip can you play online?
I used MAME++ to play this online. I think this game is also on Namco Museum for Gamecube, so I guess the emulator Dolphin could also play it online.
