I was a decorator for the park for 17 yrs and holidays were my primary focus. That’s such a bummer, but honestly not surprised. I used to work in Guest Relations and was a tour guide for the holiday tour back in 2012. It was such a lot of fun back then and it was always a sweet and emotional farewell ending before the parade viewing. How times have changed sadly.

I reserved this tour for when I return to Disneyland next week and was a little skeptical if it would be worth my money and time, but I thought the chairs for the parade would make up for it. So, my wife and I went on the Holiday Time tour yesterday. It was cheesy. But it was a good cheesy. That's in terms of the canned spiel. Our guide was super sweet, but she has to work with the material she's given, I suppose. I kept imagining how I'd do it if I were conducting the tour, and I would certainly use a more natural, homespun style. Anyway, yeah, we already knew about the various cultural traditions in her presentations, but I chose to use the them as a test to how accurate Disney is in the telling. It was fine, as far as it went. I enjoyed watching people watch the guide with her little wand and pennant, leading our mini parade through the parks. I could tell they were trying to figure out what was going on. I enjoyed our guide very respectfully but assertively stand up to the castmember at Small World, who obviously didn't know about the tours and who was asking for all kinds of I.D. from the guide and refusing to let us bypass the normal lines. The treats were awesome, especially the cake pop from Trolly Treats. WHOA! Lastly, the parade viewing area at the restroom area side of the Matterhorn was FANTASMIC. Since nobody was across from us, the cast spent all their time making eye contact, waving, yelling, and winking directly to/at us. For as close as I've been to the parade various times over the years, I've never been singled out with a "response" from the cast before (and I really try). That was kind of special. It's nice to get a little recognition/validation from the talent! Lastly, it got dark just as we exited Small World and just in time for the parade. I like it better with the sun tucked into bed. I'd actually recommend it to others, but perhaps after a brief expectation-setting discussion.
Thanks for taking us along and the honest opinion, I was there last weekend and it’s so amazing how they get holidays changed so fast, we took a quick trip that started at 5 AM from St. George Utah, ended up in Balboa on a boat for half a day, a short time on Newport Beach, stopped to look to see if there’s tickets and reservations for Disneyland for eight of us, and decided to go for the rest the day, there was some Christmas up and it looked amazing even then, thanks again for bringing the vibes and Magic of just Disneyland, sorry about the tore and don’t feel bad about it.
RIP Hannah Jacks (Blonde hair dance in gold (13:25)). Hannah and her father Deputy Daniel Jacks were killed, Sunday Nov 13, 2022, by a drunk driver coming home from Disneyland. May her love of dance and her warm heart bless this year's holiday parade. My thoughts and prayers are with the Jacks' family. Brickey, I know this video was about a disappointing time on a tour, but thank you for capturing this moment with Hannah. Maybe the family will see this and take solace in the joy of Hannah's smile she had this day.

Hey Brickey! Thanks to your vlog about it, last week my daughter & I did the Main St tour, including Walt’s apartment, and it was great! Expensive, but a one time ever thing, and we both thought well worth it. I mean, just checking out the apt was amazing, gave us a much better feel for the early park days. Terrific guide, & great photos. Just wanted to say thank you, and that we highly recommend this one. @@HeyBrickey I know! It was truly enormous, & pretty darn good for folks who love a giant lemon sugar cookie! I would have loved a cup of coffee or tea with it tbh… Maybe in a rose-patterned teacup, just like my grandma used to have. Noticed some teacups just like hers actually. My grandma took me to DL once a year when I was a kid, around 69 to maybe 76. Always feel she’s somehow with me in the park. She would have loved to see the apartment 😊

If guy you can trust says don’t do it, I believe you. It really needs to focus on the Christmas aspects of Disneyland from a historical / imagineer perspective. Stories we haven’t heard facts from imagineers who worked on Christmas aspects or upgrades. 🤷🏻♀️ great reporting Brickey and thanks for saving me some money! Thank you so much for your honest review. I get to come visit Disneyland for the first time during the holiday season this year. My husband and I only have a couple of days and I am so excited to make the most of our time. I jumped at the chance to book this tour when it became available. My husband was worried it might be a waste of our time but I was thinking it might be filled with some magical Christmas facts about Disneyland and some behind the scenes of how they transform everything. After watching your video it looks like my husband was right and you helped me to decide to cancel our tour reservation. It did not look to be worth the money and we would be disappointed. I am excited about small world and the parade but I think we can manage to get those in on our own. The treats did not look amazing and the experience did not look special. Thank you for showing this in time for me to make a better decision. Time is precious and I feel better about having those extra two hours and finding our own Disney magic. Again, your review was much appreciated!
@@HeyBrickey phew ! We are coming from New Zealand and doing this tour on Christmas Eve . Don’t have expectations and aren’t as Disney crazy as all you vloggers - so think it will still be something great for my two teen sons and I to do ! What does the pin look like that you get given ?
I had to edit my expectations and intentions for opening day. Normally I would strategize to get the first of everything, from rope drop to closing, at all cost. This year, long before the day arrived, I chose to come into the park with no agenda, no plan, on a very tiny budget and to just 'experience' the park. With that mindset, I feel like the smells were more aromatic, the sights were much brighter, and the laughs I shared with friends were heartier. You can't have those moments if you're chasing content and trying to do something before everyone else. I've become less interested in creating content and more interested in creating memories...and it's made the parks way more magical! (BTW, that was me screaming out to you on the parade route...love seeing you at the parks, friend!)
We went in 2019 for a quick weekend. First time at DL for the holidays. For such a short trip and being our first time I enjoyed the tour and thought it was a good immersion into DL holiday and we had great seats near Small World. I can certainly see your point for better things to do to get you in the spirit and at such a high price point now. It was I think $78 with APs back then. For a longer stay I would agree you don’t need to take the tour as you’d have more time to enjoy Christmas at DL.
You get hot chocolate in the tumbler as part of the tour? Also, was the preferred seating actual seats like before or sitting on the floor or standing room only?

I took this tour last Saturday and it was a total let down. We too were looking forward to a seated experience. I too have taken tours in the past, including this tour several year ago and the tour this year was total garbage. I wish I would have just purchased Genie+ for the family and made our own Christmas magic. Disney if you’re reading this DO BETTER!!

Did you get chairs for the parade? Did you have a view of Small World exterior from the reserved parade viewing area? I have been thinking about doing the tour for the evening parade, and in the past the tour participants had chairs (with backs!) overlooking Small World. Then again there used to be only 2 tours a day (1 for each parade) and now there are 6 tour times per day (3 for each parade). I wonder if there are three different reserved parade viewing areas this year?
@@HeyBrickey - Wow. That is a huge downgrade from what was offered in previous years’ tours. I did watch your video and I just had such disconnect from what I had read about in previous tours. Having 2 rows of chairs with backs for the parade in front of Small World was the main selling point. I do thank you for making my choice to not book the tour easy.
I was on the 4:20 tour. Great location on Main Street. Ear Jolly Holiday. No chairs, sit on ground. I think some stood too behind. I was expecting chairs by small world, but it seems they have not upgraded the description. Details! Their were chairs by small world, but not this tour.
What a shame. My wife and I were planning on taking this tour in hopes we would get a little something extraordinary out of the parks, but thanks for always being trustworthy with your honesty, I think we'll curate our own Holiday tour. You are 100% right. We took the tour last week and what a disappointment. We have taken this tour in the past and had such a great time. Disney went cheap. Even our ride on It’s A Small World got canceled. And the cherry on top was no chairs for the parade. If you want a great tour take the “Main Street Tour” worth every penny.
I hope Disney takes those three words in the thumbnail to heart. No more fobbing off fans, cutting corners, falling short. With you as our eyes and ears and with the power of Honesty, things have to change for the better. Cheers, Brickey! 👊🏻
Someone I know took the Walk In Walt’s Footsteps Tour. It was supposed to be 90 minutes, but it only lasted 60, and 20 minutes of that time was spent in a question and answer session. No special pin, no meal, like they used to offer. This person felt very cheated and disappointed.

I took the 4:20 version of this on Friday. I was seriously underwhelmed. I wanted the great parade seat and they delivered on that, but I could have had fried chicken and gotten an equally good seat. As someone, who was also disappointed, reminded me, it is a new tour. What I would really like to know if where can I send some constructive feedback. I should not have been drug across the end of Main Street when it was clear the tree lighting was starting. I did not see it! I do believe they can do better and some of the planning just forgot about the customer. Any ideas how I can give that feedback? Yes, Small World was awesome. And the TOY SOLDIERS!
Hey, I’m so glad you made this video! My friend and I found out about this tour and thought it would be delightfully fun so we decided to take it back in 2018. Well, although we felt it was something new and there were some interesting things to it, by and large we shared the same sentiment as you did: It was overpriced, we didn’t get much out of it, the rest stops we’re not great and we knew a lot of the information as well if we could even hear the information being given. We decided in the end we were glad to have gone because we had never done a tour before but that was about it. The Mickey gingerbread cookie and hot chocolate were great and the small world fast pass was cool too. We also received 2 pins back then? Did you receive any pins?! I’m just curious as I know things have changed. I would love to do the Walking Through Walt’s Footsteps tour though! 😊

I think you’ve hit on what Disney lacks right now, the details. Washroom and Break locations where not thought about because Management just brought this Tour out and was thinking of the bottom line not the details. I’m sure the Cast members who know the details best where never involved in any input on this Tour.
Could it be your Guide Tour, that didn't show too much enthusiasm or had very little Information about the Park, to catch your interest...to make the VIP Tour, not worth your while...during the whole tour...

@@HeyBrickey I know! It was truly enormous, & pretty darn good for folks who love a giant lemon sugar cookie! I would have loved a cup of coffee or tea with it tbh… Maybe in a rose-patterned teacup, just like my grandma used to have.
Noticed some teacups just like hers actually. My grandma took me to DL once a year when I was a kid, around 69 to maybe 76. Always feel she’s somehow with me in the park. She would have loved to see the apartment 😊

Had a great time hanging out with you but I’m so sorry that the tour didn’t work out but it was so nice of you to give your honest opinion of the tour and I know it was hard for you to say the things you said about the tour knowing how much you love Disneyland but I must say you are quite a guy that you would say what you said about the tour because you care about people and you didn’t what them to waste their money and not have a good experience in the park and that my friend is why I have the utmost respect for you and don’t worry because next time your in the park your going to have one heck of a good time and you’ll leave there feeling good and with a big smile on your face now with that being said peace ☮️ love ❤️ and happiness to you Brickey and I’ll see you on the next Hey Brickey awesome video peace ☮️ out ✌️

If guy you can trust says don’t do it, I believe you. It really needs to focus on the Christmas aspects of Disneyland from a historical / imagineer perspective. Stories we haven’t heard facts from imagineers who worked on Christmas aspects or upgrades. 🤷🏻♀️ great reporting Brickey and thanks for saving me some money! Also thanks for keeping the video light, definitely a razors edge to balance positive with critical.

Thank you so much for your honest review. I get to come visit Disneyland for the first time during the holiday season this year. My husband and I only have a couple of days and I am so excited to make the most of our time. I jumped at the chance to book this tour when it became available. My husband was worried it might be a waste of our time but I was thinking it might be filled with some magical Christmas facts about Disneyland and some behind the scenes of how they transform everything. After watching your video it looks like my husband was right and you helped me to decide to cancel our tour reservation. It did not look to be worth the money and we would be disappointed. I am excited about small world and the parade but I think we can manage to get those in on our own. The treats did not look amazing and the experience did not look special. Thank you for showing this in time for me to make a better decision. Time is precious and I feel better about having those extra two hours and finding our own Disney magic.

So do you need a park hopper ticket to do the tour? Was told by one cast member you do and another no you don’t. So confused.
@@HeyBrickey phew ! We are coming from New Zealand and doing this tour on Christmas Eve . Don’t have expectations and aren’t as Disney crazy as all you vloggers - so think it will still be something great for my two teen sons and I to do !
What does the pin look like that you get given ?
I had to edit my expectations and intentions for opening day. Normally I would strategize to get the first of everything, from rope drop to closing, at all cost. This year, long before the day arrived, I chose to come into the park with no agenda, no plan, on a very tiny budget and to just 'experience' the park. With that mindset, I feel like the smells were more aromatic, the sights were much brighter, and the laughs I shared with friends were heartier. You can't have those moments if you're chasing content and trying to do something before everyone else. I've become less interested in creating content and more interested in creating memories...and it's made the parks way more magical! (BTW, that was me screaming out to you on the parade route...love seeing you at the parks, friend!)
We went in 2019 for a quick weekend. First time at DL for the holidays. For such a short trip and being our first time I enjoyed the tour and thought it was a good immersion into DL holiday and we had great seats near Small World. I can certainly see your point for better things to do to get you in the spirit and at such a high price point now. It was I think $78 with APs back then. For a longer stay I would agree you don’t need to take the tour as you’d have more time to enjoy Christmas at DL.

I took this tour last Saturday and it was a total let down. We too were looking forward to a seated experience. I too have taken tours in the past, including this tour several year ago and the tour this year was total garbage. I wish I would have just purchased Genie+ for the family and made our own Christmas magic. Disney if you’re reading this DO BETTER!!

Did you get chairs for the parade? Did you have a view of Small World exterior from the reserved parade viewing area? I have been thinking about doing the tour for the evening parade, and in the past the tour participants had chairs (with backs!) overlooking Small World. Then again there used to be only 2 tours a day (1 for each parade) and now there are 6 tour times per day (3 for each parade). I wonder if there are three different reserved parade viewing areas this year?
@@HeyBrickey - Wow. That is a huge downgrade from what was offered in previous years’ tours. I did watch your video and I just had such disconnect from what I had read about in previous tours. Having 2 rows of chairs with backs for the parade in front of Small World was the main selling point. I do thank you for making my choice to not book the tour easy.
I was on the 4:20 tour. Great location on Main Street. Ear Jolly Holiday. No chairs, sit on ground. I think some stood too behind. I was expecting chairs by small world, but it seems they have not upgraded the description. Details! Their were chairs by small world, but not this tour.

You are 100% right. We took the tour last week and what a disappointment. We have taken this tour in the past and had such a great time. Disney went cheap. Even our ride on It’s A Small World got canceled. And the cherry on top was no chairs for the parade. If you want a great tour take the “Main Street Tour” worth every penny.
I hope Disney takes those three words in the thumbnail to heart. No more fobbing off fans, cutting corners, falling short. With you as our eyes and ears and with the power of Honesty, things have to change for the better. Cheers, Brickey! 👊🏻

Someone I know took the Walk In Walt’s Footsteps Tour. It was supposed to be 90 minutes, but it only lasted 60, and 20 minutes of that time was spent in a question and answer session. No special pin, no meal, like they used to offer. This person felt very cheated and disappointed.
Thank you for you being you and sharing open and honest feedback. Know how much you love Christmas I wise you would have had a better experience. Oh ya and MERRY CHRISTMAS right back at you!!!

I took the 4:20 version of this on Friday. I was seriously underwhelmed. I wanted the great parade seat and they delivered on that, but I could have had fried chicken and gotten an equally good seat. As someone, who was also disappointed, reminded me, it is a new tour. What I would really like to know if where can I send some constructive feedback. I should not have been drug across the end of Main Street when it was clear the tree lighting was starting. I did not see it! I do believe they can do better and some of the planning just forgot about the customer. Any ideas how I can give that feedback? Yes, Small World was awesome. And the TOY SOLDIERS!

Hey, I’m so glad you made this video! My friend and I found out about this tour and thought it would be delightfully fun so we decided to take it back in 2018. Well, although we felt it was something new and there were some interesting things to it, by and large we shared the same sentiment as you did: It was overpriced, we didn’t get much out of it, the rest stops we’re not great and we knew a lot of the information as well if we could even hear the information being given. We decided in the end we were glad to have gone because we had never done a tour before but that was about it. The Mickey gingerbread cookie and hot chocolate were great and the small world fast pass was cool too. We also received 2 pins back then? Did you receive any pins?! I’m just curious as I know things have changed.

@@neilforker84 I think we will still do it too - as we are coming from New Zealand and we aren’t as big of a Disney fan as this vlogger so don’t have super high expectations or any real park knowledge to compare it too . I think it will exciting for us to do on Christmas Eve and see the night parade where it’s lit up ! All about making memories with my 15 and 17 year old sons.
I think you’ve hit on what Disney lacks right now, the details. Washroom and Break locations where not thought about because Management just brought this Tour out and was thinking of the bottom line not the details. I’m sure the Cast members who know the details best where never involved in any input on this Tour.

Could it be your Guide Tour, that didn't show too much enthusiasm or had very little Information about the Park, to catch your interest...to make the VIP Tour, not worth your while...during the whole tour...
