The Uncle Albert section is about Paul's actual Uncle Albert, who apparently had a tendency to drunk call relatives and spout biblical verses. Paul McCartney being ahead of his time, writing a song about "ghosting" someone on the phone, before it was a thing.

Albert is Albert Kendall, who married Paul McCartney's aunt Milly (becoming "Uncle Albert") and provided inspiration for a portion of this song suite. Albert had a habit of getting drunk and reading from the Bible; the only time he read from the Good Book was when he was drinking.

Paul often combined fragments of uncompleted songs together. When he did the "gidit, gidit" part in Albert, he was trying to imitate the sound of placing a call on a rotary phone, then made the vocals sound like they were coming thru a phone speaker.

Always liked Paul McCartney when he infused some British elements into songs-like the phone call when their "easy called away" with the British accent. His song Let Em' In has the same feel with the British marching band and speaking in the background at the same time.

Sir Paul McCartney, still just Paul McCartney at this point in his life, had complete creative freedom on his first solo effort after The Beatles broke up, an album called RAM. This is what you get with complete creative freedom. Something completely creative. i remember hearing this on the radio at the time and just smiling the whole way through, I didn't want the song to end, and I thought it unfair when it did end. But it was back on the air again within the hour, so all was good. BTW, that was his wife at the time in the video, Linda Eastman McCartney, a very talented photographer in her own right, who passed away in the 80's from cancer. RIP Linda Eastman McCartney.

It was a #1 hit in 1971. It was all Paul and Linda, and a drummer generally. Back in the day we were all singing this in the hallways in Junior High, to the annoyance of the teachers, lol. Especially the "Hands Across the Water" part. But the choir teacher, she loved it! That's a Flugel Horn you hear being played.

This was Sir Paul's first hit song after the Beatles broke up and it's a lot of fun. You can also pick up a little bit of a Beatles vibe to it as he was beginning to find his own voice separate from the band. I remember when this came out and how much I enjoyed it. It made me curious to see where he was going to go with his solo career which has been a fantastic journey.

McCartney wrote character driven songs. He innovated songs as two songs. Band on the Run. Prime example. His characters, Fool on the Hill, Joe Joe, Hey Jude, Mother Mary in let it be. The list goes on. All became icons of many generations. Now and in the future.

The first to play all the instruments and record his own album, McCartney has his wife help with some background vocals, but this was another of Paul's amazing feats. There is a reason why he is the most successful songwriter in history. Bass, guitar, keys, drums, he does it all, plus bounces all the tracks together in the recording booth.

McCartney as well as Lennon (taught him this) and Harrison, were used to taking unfinished "bits" of song and incorporating these " pieces" into one song. Adding again to the non-meaning to most songs, and just word and melody play.

I really liked this song when it came out, and still do. It wasn't until many years later that I realized that it's actually 3 or 4 pieces of different songs stitched together by Paul to make one song, something the Beatles dabbled in on The White Album and Abby Road.

Angela - I remember this song well. It is okay. 5 out of 10. You are just an amazing woman Angela. I don't know how old you are but, this song is definitely not in your generation of music. But, you listen to the words of music very intensely. I, on the other hand, watch your reaction to these songs. I rarely ever hear this song because I really am not crazy about it. I am critical of songs I hear. I love Paul McCartney but even he has lousy songs too. Mary Had A Little Lamb is another one of them. Yeah, the nursery rhyme. Your beauty and charm is enough for me. I give you a 10.

McCartney at this time seemed to always be stitching incomplete musical ideas (songs?) together, but made it work. A lot of that on the Ram album. Then there would be songs like Jet which I like, but I don't think he could ever come up with proper lyrics to so it is some nonsensical lyrics about a dog or something. I think he really missed the collaboration with John and George in finishing songs.

I have loved the Beatles since I was 7 years of age, when my lovely brother, who is sadly no longer here, played his records for me. I Love McCartney, and one of the highlights in my life was seeing him perform at Hyde park back in 2009. It was one of the best days of my life.
