That dinner scene was beautiful. They spent their last few moments with the ones they loved the most in a lovely, intimate way. It was perfect and I sob every time I watch it. I have seen the movie at least 6 times and I'm not sure when I will get tired of it! (also Kate's obsession with the free snacks had me howling with laughter)

My wife & I watched this movie with my mom last night. My mom is 82, a huge Trump supporter, and spends most of her time watching fox news. So she's watching this movie with my wife & I (we're both democrats) and my mom's laughing & riveted & loved the movie. Turns out the whole metaphor of the comet being like climate change went completely over her head. And when I explained it to her she got really mad and felt like she got duped by the Hollywood elite, saying things like: "I should've known since it had Leonardo Dicaprio & Meryl Streep in it." First of all, I couldn't believe that she didn't get the metaphor. Second, it didn't penetrate her bubble at all. Just made her double down even more that climate change is a hoax and that the libtards are destroying this country.

This film is not only a satire on Climate Change, but can also been seen (not that it was intended, but the same obfuscation, greed, cowardice, and self-serving applies) as a satire on the evisceration of our democracy over the last 40 years.
Huge money in politics, crushing of labor, both parties being funded by corporations (albeit different ones), 50 percent of Senators and Representatives leaving Congress and becoming Lobbyists (ie $150k per year to $2m per year in salary), the defunding to the point of starvation and forced incompetence of the IRS, FEC, FDA, CDC, etc and the voice of most Americans is lost all the while the media gives us shallow, if any, coverage of how weakened our democratic system has become.

Funny story about Ricky Bobby's "invisible fire," idk if he meant to or not but there are real examples of that in IndyCar in the past. Lookup the "Indy 500 pit fire." IndyCar used to run almost 100% ethanol which doesn't have a color when it burns so it was incredibly dangerous if it caught fire in pit lane.

The flaw in this movie is the premise that the USA is the only country that has the technology to destroy this comet. It would have been more believable to include the world scientists and the collaboration of countries’ top scientists to destroy this comet. To pop a scene that the only option to destroy the comet from other countries is blown up. I realize that this movie is suppose to shine light on the powers of USA government of their ignorance towards climate change. I don’t understand why all the people involved in this movie especially the author director didn’t say this movie is focusing on an audience that has no science background. Our audience that we are reaching are complete idiots. I had high hopes for this movie because of the press coverage. But I found it insulting not funny because it showcased America as the only player in this catastrophe. As if America is the most powerful country on the planet. My opinion, it’s a movie that lacks its hyped up humor. It’s a waste of time to watch. It’s truly disappointing that these creative people think of us an complete idiots.

I think it's clear the entire thesis of the movie is about the division and inefficiency of the US system. It can be broadened to the entire world but the focus is on how the Us who used to be able to put people on the moon cannot agree on reality anymore. Then again a little mention of failed European or Korean effort would have made the movie more realistic.

People live their whole lives thinking that this life is all that matters. Somehow you have to make the most of it but if you believe that you stop existing once you die then what is the point of anything??? The truth is that we don’t stop existing. We were created and this life is preparation for the next life. We either accept God’s gift of life or we continue being dead in the spiritual realm. Now how can we accept God’s gift of life? We accept Jesus Christ as our Savior and acknowledge that He paid the price for our sins. We ask for forgiveness and turn away from our evil ways. God is holy, therefore we should also desire to be holy if we want to live in his presence forever. If you do not wish to be in the presence of God forever then hell is the other option.
    2 Peter 3:3-13
“ …First of all you must understand this, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own passions and saying, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things have continued as they were from the beginning of creation.” They deliberately ignore this fact, that by the Word of God heavens existed long ago, and an earth formed out of water and by means of water (an allusion to the elemental chemistry of atoms; partially figurative); through which the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished. But by the same Word the heavens and earth that now exist have been stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

Why was it not scary or funny if it's meant to be a Horror Comedy?

leonardo's first film that i dont like and that's because of poor screenwriting and bad direction. climax was not that impressive at all. tp the humour in every scene they just break the connection from the story.
