Hey my first pack was 85! Gear choices are always evolving so get what you need for now and change it up when (if) it makes sense to later!

Haha! The armos 50 lid comes off making it a 40l, then you have the best harness and only 40. :)

Hahaha, you say true. And yes unlike the 36 the 50l Stratos does have a removable lid. O don't think it's as big as the Atmos but it does come off. :)

is the deuter 55l air comfort a good bag. i want a bigger bag for travel purposes after the camino, between airports and from locations to other. my thought is that i dont have to full up the bag and then it will be compressed to a similar size as the 36l. should i really consider the off the back frames as opposed to the air comfort design. thoughts will be appreciated, thanks.

I'd start with absolute essentials and see if they fill the pack and only add if you must. Unless you have a special need, I'd guess the essentials should easily fit with one exception: your sleep system. Some sleeping bags can fill 30l by themselves haha. So if that's the only problem also consider what you might do about that (like external carry). If you need more room I'd upgrad the pack because you'll want good suspension above 30l.
