Oh, man. I have to say... In a vast sea of video tutorials all decorated with "Like a Pro!", or "No one will tell you this secret!!!", you just explain things as they are and as they need to be explained. Clear and direct. You just make the whole video interesting from start to end. Brilliant stuff. Thank you so much.
you forgot to switch off the auto release therefore making the release knob not responding to your settings of the reverb ducking properly.. your work is always an inspiration every time I watch.. thanks for impacting
I'm just coming back into engineering work after a 20+ year hiatus. Last I did this, we were using tape. Jono is the BEST at describing what I used to know and transcribing into into what I now need to know! Perfect! And Thank You, Sir! In the passed 6 months, I've helped a very good friend home record, bring it to fruition, and Master it here in my studio to the Label calling the artist up personally to ask why they sound, "So much better than they have in 20 years". Thank you, Jono!
Yes, exactly this one! I‘m very thankful for it and applied it almost 1:1 to my vocal track which I‘m currently working on! Thanks so much. I thinking brought my vocal track on a higher level, although I‘m anything else than a good singer.
Man thank you so much for this video!!!! I have literally been trying to find a method like this for months with no videos that have a clear, direct explanation like this. You're a lifesaver!!!! THANK YOU
Excellent - thanks so much for this brilliant exposition of such a superb production technique. I suspect that all other aspiring producers and mix engineers would have know this already as it's obviously such an important part of that toolkit - finally I've caught up. Thanks!!!
Great tutorial !! Very clear ! Finally understood how it works. Question: what's the difference between changing the bus fader or changing the amount of signal feeding the bus from the track (bus 4 in the video) ?
My question is : how do you sidechain the same reverb bus with compression sent to the main vocal to let’s say harmonies/octaves and background vocal tracks? Of course you can just make multiple busses with the same exact chain of reverb and compressor side chained to each octave, harmony and background vocal track, but is there a more efficient way?
Great tip! I noticed in the video that the Auto Release button is engaged. What is the relationship between that button and the Release knob? I was under the assumption that if it is engaged, the knob has no effect, but this video suggests otherwise. Jono's videos are always so practical and helpful. Thank you!
Drove my brain crazy for awhile too until I read the manual, having used pro hardware comps for years. But they work in conjunction with each other. So no, turning Auto on does not disengage the Release. It just allows the Release to work "more" dynamically with the incoming signal. So you could set the Release manually first and then turn on Auto for better control of very dynamic, changing or program material. That may not be a perfect explanation, but you could download the manual for clarification. I keep one on my system for quick checks of confusion.
I don't understand why you left it on Output rather than selecting Side Chain. You enabled the side chain at top right, but never took it off Output. If you don't need to, what is that selection for then?
in this scenario he is actually using the compressor as an automated control for the reverb in context of the music. the sc option you mentioned is a sc filter of the compression.

Very informative, and on point! Thank you for this brilliant tip

Im so glad someone else spotted this! Jono's Video's are that good that I was doubting myself 🤣
It does sound much better and is a very helpful tutorial thank you
As always writing a comment to support the channel
This is the best tutorial I've found on this subject. Awesome explanation, makes everything much clearer than other tutorials.
This was the single most helpful video for my EDM vocals. THANK YOU!
One of the best explanations of this technique that I've seen. Ty!!!!!!
Very nice ant to-the-point tutorial. Many thanks!
Jono is by far the most articulate explainer and educator when it comes to Logic and Sound Design. Thank you Mr. Buchanan! Amazing as always :-)

Good clear instructions to a complex subject thanks.

This took my vocals to a whole new level. Wicked! Thanks 🙏
Sidechain?????????????? Well I know all about it now, what it does, how to use it, thank you so much Jono, you really are the man!
Fantastic! This is a game changer. Thank you so much!
Thanks for another brilliantly clear explanation.
No worries!
awesome aweomse video as always, keep the logic tutorials coming, literally the best videos on the internet. THANK YOU
More to come!
Really nice technique, thank you for sharing!
thank you so much this sounds way better than using automations!

Great explanation, Thank you so much !!!
Man this was an amazing explanation! I’ve had a lot of explanations about this told to me and none as clear and concise. Thank you thank you!
Very nice tutorial 🎉
Excellent teaching skillz.
Thanks a lot very clearing.
Thank you so much this is so helpful and time saving!!

Superb, concise, lucid advice - agree with comments below citing you as the best. Thank you!

great video thank you
You could route the bus into the compressor as well correct ? as opposed to the specific audio clip
always brilliant insight !!!
thank you !! best one
Helpful, thanks!
very Nice Tutorial
thank you very much Sir.
Anyone know if this guy has a videos of him creating a full song start to finish?
sir do should we have to activate the side chain nob ????????
eq the reverb before compression to make it more transparent also
the new reverbs that have that knob duck, i think it does the same no?
There’s a sample in there that sounds like Mac’s trash being emptied. Thanks for the vid!
What space designer setting do you have it on this reverb is nice
Thx sir
But the auto on att and rel I’ll set on off right? In video is on, why set the knob if there is auto
can i use the aux channel, because i do not have only one vocal track but they all go to one aux channel.
Great thank!
I am wondering why ducking feature is not given internally on Pro R Fabfilter?
Awesome
any reason for the vocals being in mono?

what is the syth on the left please ?
Just checking but auto release is still highlighted shouldn’t that be off?
But what if we have multiple tracks to add reverb?
Tks .
Whose the artist? She sounds alot like Naomi Sharon
Why does my compressor have no side chain input box in the very top right hand corner
I’m on Logic

I can’t help finding it better before sidechaining. Anyway you are really good in explaining the technique. But I never liked it much
Soooooo… You can add distortion & reduce it via side chain compression to create big effects..
Didnt turn off the auto release🤦🏾♂️
Nice tutorial. However, that organ pad color is the worst thing you could have possibly selected for this.
Not dissimilar to lengthening your pre-delay.
Good video but autotune would have helped as well!
