This video is epic. I've been playing NHL forever, and love franchise mode. But to be honest, I've never really played the draft, I've mostly used the picks as trading chips. This has completely changed my way of playing franchise mode! Now I actually look forward to doing a full on rebuild and stacking up draft picks to find those gems. Can't thank you enough mate!
Hey there! That's so awesome to hear!! 🤩 I'm so glad that the video was helpful for you and will add to your Franchise Mode experience! It's my absolute pleasure and I appreciate you leaving the comment :) Feel free to leave any other questions that may arise and enjoy!
Tried this for the first time in NHL 20 (the lastest version I play lol) and I’m in utter disbelief on how accurate this is. I used to just be so tired of scouting that I’d just draft randomly, take notes of all the steals that other teams get, write their names down, exit without saving and pick this players next time. This method is a game changer 😤
Wow!! Great to know that it also works on versions as far back as 20! And I love your previous method 😂 Best of luck with this and thanks for letting me know!
True! I realized that what i should've said is, if you do get a small handful, they are not usually worth scouting. But, if they are, then you can scout them with the extra time from your USA West/East or one of your European scouts. Thanks for raising that point!
I know I’m pretty late to this video but I use it every time I do franchise mode it’s actually so effective. Once I get really good scouts I’m constantly finding top 6 potential medium elite players. Top 4dmen ect. It’s so OP I can constantly be trading away prospects without worrying about emptying the prospect pool. Thank you data!
Awesome video man. Certainly this has to be as close as possible to "best practice" when it comes to scouting. Well done. Would love to see a video on prospect development too. I gotta say as well, and I'm sure I'm in the minority on this, but I actually kinda like how tedious and meticulous the scouting needs to be to be perfect. It would be sort of lame IMO if you could just click a button and get perfect results. The fact that it's a convoluted multi-step process to get to near 100% accuracy seems more realistic.
Hey Tyler! Thank you kindly! :) Glad that you think so. Honestly, I'd love to make a video on player development as it's been highly requested but it's just so unpredictable haha. Some players never grow in overall despite appropriate ice time (plus scoring well), while others have huge jumps out of nowhere. That being said, yes, I agree with you! I won't lie and say that it isn't annoying haha but, like everything else, there is value in hard work. I wouldn't mind if it were a tad less "copy and paste" and required a little more critical thinking (see MLB's new scouting system), but I do agree with your point. Thanks again for leaving the comment and see you around! :)
Same I feel that aspect of it is real asf but we need to be able to edit players like why is it so hard for guys to progress.. I went to build a farm and just draft prospects into stardom but this game only allows xfactors to be added and some get removed after a year smh
i love this. if youre rebuilding you only really to do this for 3 years max then youre set with prospects for a long ass time and can go back to normal auto scouting
Great video. Thank you! I'm trying this in 24 right now. Through the first 3 phases there's nobody showing potential. January 22nd. I'll try keeping the faith, haha. Let's see.
Thank you very much! It was my pleasure :) And don't worry, that's exactly how it should go! You won't see any potential until the "potential and comparison" phase is done. By doing all of the other phases before, it leaves that last one as what unlocks everything! Let me know if you have any questions and best of luck!
I find that in my first few years at least, I can go without using three OHL scouts, and instead use the spot as a wildcard. For instance in the first year i had a third in Russia, and years two three and four their was a guy in the first round from Alsvenskan so i kept one there. But after a few years the third OHL guy definitely helped.
Agreed! The OHL typically only needs 2 but, if you have no pro scouts at all, it's nice to have an extra in one of the bigger leagues. But you're exactly right, if that isn't needed, then the scout can absolutely function as a wildcard. Thanks for leaving the tip!
at 1338 you were talking about the time traveling scouts. IF You try to scout players while they are not in the region yet, it takes them MUCH longer to scout. To confirm what I am saying, next time send your scout and make in scout one person. Look how long it will take him. Exit the screen and sim a day. Go back into the scout and the dates will have changed on when he was to originally finish the job.
Right?? It takes a lot of time, but it's so worth it once you're able to build through the draft! I love that it also adds value to late picks as opposed to just using them as trade chips throughout the year. Now, you want to hang onto them! Thanks Connor :)
@Data782 So, I did change things a bit. I like good chemistry on my bottom 6. So, I have two nhl scouts with A in every region and I send them to scout lines and strategies for 1 week for each team. That seems to uncover line fit. Just figure I would mention it.
If you assign prospects to a scout who is traveling, he will not scout as many players. It is better to move him, advance one day, then assign prospects AFTER he has completed his move.
Amazing guide! I have two questions if your or someone can help - I dont know if its NHL 24 bug or if its happening only to me - but for me the last round of scouting doesn't work - it never uncover anything. I make sure that the scouting end date is before draft, i see when days go by that the scouts are scouting the players and before the draft they all finish, but for some reason when i look at the players scouted in the last scouting round, nothing changes, nothing gets uncovered, literally nothing. They are same as after the previous scouting round. I think there is some kind of internal date in the game and if you are past that, the scouting doesnt work. I am not sure which date, but i think even maybe few weeks before draft or before play off end or something. And second question - can sometimes happen, that some regions have 0 prospects? I am in my second season and USA east and west have 0 players.
Hey thanks so much! Sorry for the longer than usual delay on getting back to you - I usually reply within 24 hours but have been taking a bit longer on vacation. So, about your questions! For the last round of scouting, it's very odd to hear about what's happening to you. It seems as though there can sometimes be problems with uncovering information on certain prospects if you scout them with a different scout, but it doesn't make sense that it's happening to the entire draft class. I've never seen this issue before. And if you set your "final date" so to speak as a few weeks prior (say, in May?), are you getting different results? I'd be very curious to hear more. For your second question, yes, absolutely! Some regions will sometimes have 0 prospects although it's rare to see that from USA East and/or West. You'll never see that from the OHL/QMJHL/WHL and other big ones but the smaller ones can sometimes be empty. I hope all of this helps and please feel free to follow up with anything else!
@@Data782 No need to apologize, thank you for the response and i hope you have (had) a great vacation. Sadly i dont have save that is far back enough to test it more, i made mistake and overwrite a save that i didnt want to but i will monitor it next season and see if it happens again but it will take time because i am playing it as youtube lets play and i am partly simming and partly playing so it may be a while. BTW how to approach region that has low amount of players, but still enough to have one scout there? because you mentioned that your scout from that region can help others if he finishes quicker - you mean to relocate him back and forth all the time and let him scout other region at least for few days? or create separate time schedule for him so he finishes each round earlier and when he is done, he can them fully relocate near the end of the season? As for the USA EAST and West having 0 players, i tried for testing purposes loading a save few times to see if its the same, and two times there was 0 players, and for third time there was 1 playear each in both west and east :D i am not sure if its a random thing or if its something bugged in the custom roster i downloaded before start of the save. Anyway thank you so much.
Regarding region deployment - I tend to run 1 scout in Europe hitting all the leagues there. 2 each in USA (one Central, one for East and West), LIIGA, SHL, and RUS. Then 3 in each CHL league. If you have better scouts you can get away with fewer in each (although w the CHL I wouldn't). For example I have 1 A scout in RUS and he can handle all of it by himself. Same for my Euro scout. The sooner you can get some A rated scouts the easier it gets. If you run Pro scouts my tip is to switch your Pros from the NHL to the AHL after the Trade Deadline. You're not getting those NHL players then anyway. And having some info on AHL prospects and new NHL players for next year can help you make trades in the offseason.
That's another way to do it! I like my layout as a foundation, and then you can move as necessary depending on which regions have the most prospects. Like you said, the sooner you have more A rated scouts in your staff, the better! And good suggestion on the pro scouts. Appreciate you adding your thoughts!
This is awesome for 24. First year not as thorough because season starts later so unless maybe round 1 goes later than Oct 1st otherwise some.scouts will only scout 5 or 6 players to that date. Also.... towards the end of season, my scouts who are finished and have down time, I send to the bigger leagues and use the find prospects tab to have them search for undrafted free agents I might want instead of searching through the full free agent list after the draft. Only done it twice so I won't stand behind it yet. Only way I could make the find prospects useful. I will say watching your video has totally changed my viewpoint on how to play franchise mode. As a guy who plays most of the games with realistic settings, it's gets boring game after game at about a half season.
You're exactly right! Year 1 starts later so it changes your schedule just a tad but you can compensate by just scouting a few less players per phase (especially since there's less late/gem value to uncover). Interesting theory on "find prospects!" I think I'll try that myself when a scout is truly done in May/June and has some time to kill. I've tried a few different things to try and understand what that feature's purpose is and I still can't crack the code so it's worth a try haha. Let me know if you find success with it! Super glad to hear that this video has helped to enhance your Franchise Mode experience! :) I know exactly what you mean and feel the same way in the way that I play. Thanks for the kind words and feel free to leave any more questions that may pop up along the way!
You are welcome, let me know how it works for you as well. I just know it kind of gives you an idea of the udfa you sign if you have to. As we know alot of good players go undrafted, so you never know. Even if you don't find stars, you always need cheap depth players to fill out your team. Good to have a slight idea if they fit your team or systems. I play with cap, morale, owner mode, everything on. I have severe adhd so I enjoy being able to do 20 things at once in one mode. I can only play so many games in a row, I need to break it up with other objectives. I also like to know every goal scored is a product of my game play, so I don't Sim to much. Takes me a good month almost to play through a season. With the realistic settings , if I use a good team, I'm good. Use a bad team and it's a struggle. I always use rebuilds so this scouting video has really helped me out in the sense of building the team my own way. I appreciate your work. You have way more patience then me haha
One other question.. First couples years.. with your USA scouts and euro scouts. They only have a few players in the top 250 300. Do you just scout those few players or do you scout down to the thousand ranks to keep all your scouts on the same timeline till the end? I have a hard time wasting time on players I know won't become anything or barely play in their own leagues.
@Data782 so I managed to do a full season with my extra scouts looking at undrafted prospects. And the results were surprising. I was able to pick out some free agents after the draft. But also I just started my next season, and right from day one without doing anything, I already have close to 300 players prescouted. Some fully scouted, some just play style. Players that went undrafted in the previous draft that were ranked like in the 500 and higher are now top 100 players that are in their second year of eligibility. Gives you a super headstart on the next draft class. I also started lining up my scouts finish dates with the date the draft rankins get released and it almost lines up perfectly.
@@Daiglebitez506 Hey sorry that I'm late in getting back to you! For your first question, yes, I usually scout into the 600-800 range with my scouts who have less prospects like in the USA East, for example. It doesn't usually give you much, but once in a while there could be a gem or it might even help you for scouting next year as that player will move up to the top 300 and now you already have a full report on him which will save you time. I know I'm dedicating scouting to players who like 99% of the time won't turn into anything, but I find my scouts are efficient enough in other areas that I don't want to make my life even harder by continually moving some of them around haha. Now, for your most recent comment! I see that you actually noticed some of the things that I just wrote haha. I began replying before reading both. You're exactly right! I think it's a fine strategy. I'll have to work on looking at the undrafted FAs. Just doing "find prospects" doesn't seem to have any impact on anything so this may be a way to find additional value going under the radar. Thanks for your going research and for keeping me updated! :)
Nice vid! Already started my season with the old system of potential and comparison 3x, but I took a screenshot of the dates there at the end of the video for next season! One thing I never fully understood was last year you would select the players from the bottom up (13 to 1) rather than what you did in this video (1 to 13) which is obviously easier to calculate. Able to elaborate on that and what the purpose of scouting in reverse order was in the first place? Lol thanks again!
Hey there! Appreciate it! :) To answer your question, I used to scout from bottom up not because of ease of calculations, but because anecdotal evidence seemed to suggest that doing so would tell you more about the higher end prospects. Over time, I started to realize that the difference seemed to be negligible, at least for me, so I didn't really bother. Furthermore, I don't go bottom up because each scout has a different "capacity." Especially if I need to scout until a certain date, one scout may get 12 prospects scouted in that time while another gets 16. So, I go top down and just see where I end up. Let me know if that answers your question and best of luck with your scouting! :)
@@Data782 Excellent thanks for the response! I've been trying both myself as well but didn't notice much of a difference so thats why I was curious incase I was missing something lol Thanks again great vid!
Not sure if I missed it in the video but do you pay any attention to prospects labeled as gems and busts? Is there a noticeable difference to players with those labels or is it just a suggestion?
Hey Cody! I may not have said very much about gems and busts. Honestly, there are two ways to think about it and neither have really been 100% proven either way. One way of viewing gems/busts is a short-term view: meaning that this player is a good value pick vs. a bad value pick but neither will necessarily be a "good" or "bad" player. Then there's the long-term view: meaning that the game knows the underlying mechanics for player growth and a "gem" will have a better chance of growing/reaching his his potential while a "bust" will likely never reach it. In my experience, the long-term view seems to be the more accurate one, BUT, player growth still comes down to a lot of what YOU do and not just the player on his own. A gem can still stagnate and a bust can still be valuable. That being said, I still prefer to base my drafting off of potential as that's what means most in both the short and long term. If a player is a gem, that's a bonus. If a player is a bust, I may try to avoid him but, if he truly does look like the best pick available according to my criteria, then I wouldn't say that I would never draft him. I hope that that helps! :)
@@codymundy8661 My pleasure! And you're right that I see it more as a bonus. However, at the same time, I may not "reach" for a gem but a player having that title may make me want to "target" him if everything else also looks good (or if I'm stuck and have to take a shot in the dark). I don't mean to say that it means nothing because I don't think that, but, as I said in my original comment, I don't think it's what decides the 20-year trajectory of a player. Best of luck and feel free to leave any other questions!
The more I play 23, the more confused I get with player growth. My best players regress, my worst progress, and nothing seems to really follow logic. In my opinion, when it comes to performance growth which is the most important, you'll want to find players who have good base attributes, bring them to the NHL/AHL when they can play with appropriate ice time (not getting buried), and make sure that they have complimentary linemates. From there, X-Factors may be added, special teams time to supplement even-strength ice-time, and so on. I hope that helps because it unfortunately isn't always a formulaic process!
52:00 Does "Gem" override their potential? I'm following along in my Franchise, and there's a Med - Top 6 Forward, who is a Gem. How do you interpret that vs a player who's Med - Elite but isn't a gem?
Great question! In short, the answer is no - "gems" don't seem to guarantee anything. I've had many gems become duds and many "normal" potential players become stars. I might take the gem MED Elite over the normal MED Elite just because, but again, there's no guarantee/override. Hope that helps!
Hey there! I would recommend that you take a scroll through my replies to other comments on this video and in my Franchise Guide video. I've tried to put together videos in the past that discuss prospect growth/development, but the honest truth is that, although there are better practices than others, sometimes, it's completely out of your hands. For example, some defensemen could have incredible seasons but be stuck at 83 OVR their entire careers. Development is a combination of (primarily) potential, X-Factors, performance (stats + ice time), and coaching. Change one thing about any of those four/five things, and it could drastically alter a player's development. I wish that there was more of a "do X and expect Y" recipe like the scouting system, but that's unfortunately not the case. I hope that this was helpful and, again, be sure to check out some of my other replies in the past for more on this!
Any chance you’d be willing to give a cliff notes version in the comments for people who don’t have an hour and a half to watch the whole video? I’m sure it’s a great guide from what I’ve read in the comments already, just a little bit daunting length-wise. If not, no worries!
For sure! That's totally understandable :) The video's length is really just to walk through and explain everything step-by-step. If you want the shortest version possible, skip ahead to 1:24:39 and follow the directions. Let me know if I can help with anything else and best of luck!
Thanks Data. Great run through. The flow through the game is getting clearer but needless to say I have made mistakes and have restarted my franchise. Trading and the way trading can be used to rebuild a franchise would be really useful as a future topic. But for now the draft and its relationship to the scouting is so much clearer. Thank you so much. (GB) Ian - and oh yes GO LEAFS
Thank you very kindly, Ian! :) That's all part of the process! Super glad to hear that things are coming along! And thanks for the suggestion. Aside from the basics of "trade a team pieces that they want in exchange for pieces that you want," it's super important to keep an eye out of potential franchise altering pieces like an elite prospect who may be getting buried in the AHL who you can get for cheap. Very important to always keep an eye on the trade blocks! Condolences for the Leafs but wishing you a strong offseason ❤️
@@Data782 Many thanks for the condolences ! The question must arise now as to how much of the Leaf top lines need to be shaken up, released / traded. Back to the game .Thanks also for the AHL tip - I will take this on . I wonder whether this can be done through the player search function or whether there is a better way possibly scouting [?] but that would detract from the main amateur scouting ready for the draft. The main difficulty Im having is getting the number and quality of picks without losing the rising stars recruited in the previous years draft. The CPU thinks it can mug me all the time! [Leafs - will rise - but I remember watching Sundin and Domi] Thanks again . Really enjoying the San Jose series too
@@ianfawcett3298 It should be a very interesting offseason ahead for the Leafs! A few different directions that the organization could go in. The player search could be used for this, yes! It won't tell you which players are getting "buried" per se, but it will narrow things down. For example, I'd probably search for players 20-22 years old who have potential of MED Top 6 or higher. From there, I can take a closer look at each one's situation if I think things line up story-wise. Haha absolutely, the CPU is very rarely your friend when it comes to the trades that you will be offered! The draft picks that you have will accumulate over time as you add aging players or toss in one or two when making other trades, I wouldn't worry too much about that. Worst case, moving on from prospects who aren't developing is always another way to get a later pick for a player that you're eyeing! Glad to know that you've been enjoying San Jose! Appreciate you taking the time to watch and looking forward to talking again soon :) Enjoy your Sunday!
Just wanna throw this out there, you can go into the rosrers in main menu to look at the whl, ohl, amd qmjhl and look at their pkayers to see who is top 6 forwards and top 4 defenceman. You can cheese the drafts for the first 3 years lol
I’ve been using this method for a while now it is really op. I’ve also been watching your penguins franchise mode. Do you use this method in your penguins franchise mode? I love the videos and I’m a penguins fan so that series is the best.
It absolutely is! Thanks for taking the time to enjoy the Pens series - I do indeed use this method in it and all of my series! Looking forward to seeing you in our future episodes! :)
Do you recommend trading for the number 1 pick (dead last teams, I know it's a lottery) at the trade deadline, or keeping all my like ten 2023 2nd rd picks until draft day and then trying to trade? Really want Bedard, and he's projected 2nd overall. Also if I don't sign Euro prospects can I leave them in their leagues similar to leaving Canadians in juniors? (OK you answer this question in the video).
Hey Alex! If you want the first overall pick, I'd say it'd be a better bet to trade for the last place team's 1st at the deadline. Even if that pick loses every lottery, at worst it's pick #4 and you can add some more value to get #1. Trading five 2nd round picks at the draft for #1 very likely won't be enough. Best of luck! And yes, as you heard me later say, Euro prospects will remain with their team if you don't sign them.
Too bad they don’t have a feature where you can just click a button that says “Scout Top 50, Scout Top 100” Etc. With just a click of a button you can save your save the pain of individually going through each player XD
This is so true, it’s sooooo painful seeing how long scouting takes when it can be done so much more quickly if you can just apply it to a group of people at once instead of having to click twice to scout one player 😢
Haha you're telling me! I appreciate how you have to actually work for your results, but the process is a tedious one. Hope that it will be helpful for you nonetheless! ;)
Important to note. The same scout has to be on a player through all 4 phases of scouting. PS, SW, SA and PC. If completed you will be fully scouted. However if you have players move let’s say up and down the draft board and you miss and Scout 1 does PS & SW while Scout 2 does SA and PC for instance, then you may have an incomplete scout. While the extra work takes time, it saves it in the long run. Using this strategy 4-5yrs into franchise mode with many A rated scouts, I have successfully scouted minimum top 300 and at the best, top 400 in players…. FULLY SCOUTED
That's an amazing catch!! Thank you for raising this point! I think doing a double-check in May can usually negate being surprised that a player wasn't fully scouted, but verifying that the same scout is always on the same player would theoretically allow for more players to be scouted in the time from September 13-June 23! Such an incredible method and this point makes it even stronger. Thanks again!
Hey, great video, it's helped me a lot. I'm having a problem... after I finish the first round of scouting some of the prospects aren't able to be scouted again, they don't show up in the list for the region scouts and when I try to scout them from the "View Draft Class" page there's no option to scout. 2 of them are 2 bar Franchise potential and are 32 & 44 in the class, so I really want to figure out why this is happening, if you can help that would be great.
Hey there! Glad that it's been helpful! :) What you're explaining is extremely odd and not something that I've ever encountered before. You're saying that a player is able to be scouted, you scout them, but then, when going to that same region again, they are no longer able to be clicked on/scouted further or don't even show up at all? I'll be happy to help if you have some more info, and could even walk you through it if you wanted to add me on Discord. We'll figure this out!
So im playing a 48 team franchise meaning i draft much deeper. Best to scout 400, especially cause its easier to get those 7&6 draft picks. (Would love a video dedicated to scouting in a 48.) Does this work mostly accurate doing it opposite? Trying to save time due to double the workload, if i scout everyone by potential first, get a rough idea of who is worth my time and who isnt and then scout by PS, S&W, and SA it would then give me a more accurate read out for the players who showed good potential early on?
Hey there! That's an interesting situation that you're in! Doing the opposite is a good idea in theory but may not necessarily work out. One round of scouting potential and comparison may only uncover a player's actual potential by 1 bar, thus making it impossible to really know much. You usually know more after at least two rounds of P&C, but that would take a good chunk of time calendar-wise. But, if you could afford to do so, then yes, that wouldn't be a bad idea to start knowing who's worth your time and who isn't. Also keep in mind that two rounds of P&C isn't always a slam dunk for 2-3 bars uncovered. When I used to scout exclusively by P&C, some players would take four rounds to get 3-4 bars uncovered. So, what I'm trying to say is, if you want to save time by trying that method, I would say that it works in theory, but 1-2 rounds of P&C may not give you enough to go on to make it worth your while, while ALSO taking up many weeks/months to do so. Hope that helps and best of luck!
Hello, I have an answer to this question! I tested out the theory of scouted potential first, and it does NOT work. Everything becomes inaccurate and reveals less than the old scouting method.
So much work for crappy 73 to 60 overall prospects? I always go for a trade instead, when I want a specific prospect. Takes trade value but is so more rewarding.
Everyone has their own preferences! I personally find a ton of value in working to find a late gem who turns into a big franchise piece as opposed to just trading for top guys. But that's the beauty of FM, you can do whatever you like!
I appreciate you leaving the feedback! You're actually the first person to mention anything since I got a new one a couple of years ago haha. It's a Blue Snowball. Do you hear anything wrong with it in particular? Volume, clarity?
Ahh yes, this was a question in the Discord server right? I'll answer again in case anyone is having the same issue. In year #1, your season starts a little later into the calendar than when you start every season after. So, year #1 scouts will take a little longer due to that, on top of the fact that they usually have a lower rating which also impacts how long a report takes. It will get easier with each passing season!
Indeed I do! When you make your selection, do you see question marks? If so, that's because you have "Fog of War" turned on. This means you won't know the player's overall until you send a scout to do a report on them. And if you want to turn "Fog of War" off, you'd have to start a new Franchise Mode save file as its one of the settings that must be decided upon at the very beginning. Let me know if that helps and if you have any more questions!
Hey again! I'm so sorry, I misspoke. Fog of War CAN indeed be turned off in your settings! I was thinking of Owner Mode. Let me know if you're able to find it but it should be under "rules" in "settings"
What’s the most important thing to scout? I thought it would be potential. Would you want to scout that first round? Just in case it slips your mind throughout the season and forget to scout if you plan on playing actual games through the franchise
You would think so! I used to only scout potential & comparison but, in this method, it's important to follow the formula. Starting with potential instead of ending with it will mess with the results. I would recommend doing your best to keep the dates in mind, possibly by writing them down and keeping an eye on them as you go through your season!
@@Data782 how do you get an accurate potential scout rating? Do you keep scouting the same player or does that depend on how well your scout is? Because there are some prospects that I know their guaranteed potential, while others are semi accurate
@@Trifizzy92 Part of that depends on your scout, but it's also important to try and always scout the same prospect with the same scout for optional results!
"Find prospects" does not actually "find" new prospects as it used to mean in previous games. Now, the game will generate the prospects that it generates every offseason according to your settings and if you try to "find prospects," it will just do some general scouting on the ones that already exist. It will not uncover a player that central scouting did not yet know to exist. If you want to get higher-end prospects from the USA, you can try to influence that by setting the quality of the draft classes and/or its prospects to "high" in your settings! I hope that helps and feel free to follow up with any more questions :)
Hmm interesting, so when looking for scouts especially starting out. Is there not much emphasis placed on rating for “ scout efficiency, prospect discovery, and X factor”. Example I was scrolling through a bunch of c rated guys to start my franchise. A couple of those guys have a high rating in those three categories compared to the rest of the available scouts who were overall ranked as C’s also.
Not as much emphasis, no! If there were two C-rated scouts who were both A+ in the region, then sure, I may look at that stuff. But, at the end of the day, if you use this method, your prospects will be fully and accurately scouted so I don't really bother with those underlying ratings. Hope that helps!
@@Data782 appreciate the feedback, usually I’m just a BAP guy. However after years of the same stale mode, I’ve moved over to franchise for more challenges. Much love and respect from the 803 of South Carolina. 💯
@@terencedorsey8049 My pleasure! I know exactly what you're saying, BAP has sadly become unbearable 😂 Happy to help and feel free to leave any questions that you may have along the way!
I’m having a problem hiring an ahl head coach because I have to promote someone then when it’s the day of the coach I offered deciding they said they would have accepted but the spot isn’t available. Is there anyway around this you know of?
It's basically a game of musical chairs. Because you can't have an interim AHL head coach for some reason, you'd have to do something like this. It will require you to fire a coach, likely your AHL goalie coach. Promote your AHL associate coach to AHL head coach. Demote your NHL goalie coach to AHL goalie coach. Hire the AHL head coach that you want as NHL goalie coach. When he signs on, demote him to AHL Associate, promote your NHL goalie back to NHL, demote your AHL head coach (actually your associate) to AHL goalie, promote your AHL associate (actually your head) to head, and then promote your AHL goalie (actually your associate) to associate. It's absolutely ridiculous haha but hope that helped!
For me whenever I try to offer a rookie, they will be like, “I was so happy when you offered me, but this offer is ridiculous,” what am I doing wrong here? (Yes I’m offering them exactly what they want)
That is VERY odd.. Are these entry-level contracts to players who you've drafted? If so, then I've never seen that before. If they're just rookies in general who want extensions or who are available in free agency, then that response isn't unheard of even when you offer them exactly what they want. Frustrating, I know. Let me know!
how do you change the order of the draft at the start of franchise mode when you go to the 33 team and create a team i was able to do it before but idk why i cant now
Hey Nate! You can never manually control the order of the entry draft but you can have control over your position in a fantasy draft if that's what you're referring to! If so, let me know and I'll provide further instructions
You said when you turn of owner it doesn't give you a budget constraint. I'm maxed out on my accounts and I only have 8 scouts now. What did I do wrong?
Right! Your "budget" will always exist but, if owner mode is turned off, you can disregard and go over it. Are scouts refusing to sign with you due to a lack of budget?
@@venomad77 And you're sure that owner mode is off? I've never seen or heard of that happening. Worst case, fire a low level coach to accommodate and the try to rehire? Very, very weird..
@@venomad77 My pleasure! Really odd nonetheless. I appreciate the kind words! :) Best of luck and feel free to leave any other questions that may arise!
I disagree. First of all, this method requires you to put in about an hour of work per season to uncover all of the prospects. If it were just pressing a couple of buttons for a few moments, that would be another story. Second, the CPU teams also have their own scouts who are signed from the same pool of staff members as your own. They have the same information as we do more or less. The REAL problem is, the CPU teams never really reach for any player more than a couple of rankings beyond the selection. So, in my opinion, the only fun being lost is by the game not programming the CPU teams to draft better. But hey, at the end of the day, if you don't like having that knowledge, you needn't do it :)
When it comes to coaches and player development, you'll want a head coach with high teaching/coach influence attributes, as well as their specialty being "forwards" for forward prospects, "defense" for D prospects, etc. It's your decision on how you want your staff to be built!
You get Allsvenskan players during the "real player" years....the first four. After that, you are correct, they go away.
It really is!! My pleasure Owen :) Thanks to redboi for sharing it, too!
Appreciate it data making a video on the scouting strategy, hopefully it works for a lot of y’all ❤
Appreciate you way more, buddy! ❤️
i love this. if youre rebuilding you only really to do this for 3 years max then youre set with prospects for a long ass time and can go back to normal auto scouting
Also true! 👀 Good advice!
Is that so! 👀 I'll definitely have to check that out! If that's still the case in NHL 24, it'll make the video ;) Thanks for the tip!
I cannot believe how accurate this system is. I have some insane draft classes now! It makes getting 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, draft picks worth it.
@@nmronnoc Beautiful! I had a similar approach before X-Factors became so over powered in terms of the line chemistry equation. That works just fine!
as someone who didn't know auto scouting was able to be turned off and has drafted an AHL top 2 defensman at #9, I am very excited
LOL oh my!! Get excited! 🤣
I got a 70 Medium Elite RW in the 3rd round and the year after he's at 84 Med Elite, sooo satisfying
Yes!! That's what we're here for!! Love that, thanks for sharing! :)
If you assign prospects to a scout who is traveling, he will not scout as many players. It is better to move him, advance one day, then assign prospects AFTER he has completed his move.
You are 100% correct! I'll mention that in my next tutorial

Thanks for saying so! It's my pleasure :)
@@Data782 thank you! Sounds like you mainly use it as a bonus/tiebreaker rather than reaching for the gems. Thank you for the quick response.

@@Data782 no problem, i know the process is tedious, but worth doing on pinned players or unscouted players that might pop up from ice or allsv.

Looking forward to a video where you discuss growing/developing prospects optimally, since you only touch on it very briefly at the end.
@@Data782 Thank you, appreciate the reply

Trading and the way trading can be used to rebuild a franchise would be really useful as a future topic.
But for now the draft and its relationship to the scouting is so much clearer. Thank you so much.
(GB) Ian - and oh yes GO LEAFS
Am revisiting the complete franchise guide where you do dive into trading . Will try again 😂
[Leafs - will rise - but I remember watching Sundin and Domi]
Thanks again .
Haha that's true! That's why I'll sometimes skip scouting those players since I already know what I need to 😂
I’ve been using this method for a while now it is really op.

Ea is too lazy
The way you said “Le Canadiens de Montréal”😂😂
Oui monsieur!
The wait is over ‼️‼️‼️
Finally! 🙌
What you're explaining is extremely odd and not something that I've ever encountered before.
Can you do a 10 minute “good enough” version of this?
Haha to see every step, unfortunately not. However, if you just want the most important information, go to the end and listen to the summary!
Impressive to see the generated Prospect Adam Fantilli on the Blue Jackets😂
Haha I added him manually as a created player and he found his way to Columbus!
Your Mic isn’t the greatest but overall I love your content. Just trying to give some feedback.
I appreciate you leaving the feedback! You're actually the first person to mention anything since I got a new one a couple of years ago haha. It's a Blue Snowball. Do you hear anything wrong with it in particular? Volume, clarity?
W Video as always data:)
Appreciate you buddy! ;)
Do you have to do the search prospects thing for it to work or nah. In my nhl it dosent say scouting when i made them do that
I just looked at it and it said confirm assignment
Exactly! Always make sure to confirm any assignment that you send a scout on before exiting
I’ve ran into an issue in 24 where the first round of scouting is only able to scout about 4 players before October 1st
If you still check comments, sorry I'm late. How do you get the overall rating after the pick? Mine doesn't show....
@@Data782 awesome! Thanks! Wish I knew that before I was 6 seasons in!
Hey again! I'm so sorry, I misspoke. Fog of War CAN indeed be turned off in your settings! I was thinking of Owner Mode. Let me know if you're able to find it but it should be under "rules" in "settings"
Awesome! That is so helpful!
How does the find prospects work? I've been trying to do an all USA team and I cannot get a good pool to do it.
How did you get so many generated prospects for the 2024 draft?
The game generates a different class of prospects each year, nothing that I did :)
This works for nhl 24 aswell
Correct! Scouting/drafting is identical in NHL 23/24
What's the time stamp where you explain that all Canadien league prospects can't be assigned to the AHL only NHL or back to juniors??
1:19:57!
Thank you, Merci beaucoup, kiitos!! Thanks also to redboi.
Ole hyvä!! ;)
@@Data782 Learning finnish word by word…. Good (hyvä)
This new scouting system is brilliant. Works like a charm (toimii kuin junan vessa as we say in Finland (works like a train's toilet)).... :D
@@jannekalliokoski1968 Amazing! 🤣
@@Data782 no I'm talking about the first draft when you start
@@natesportsfanatic4670 Ahh then no, you unfortunately can't ever decide where you'll select in the entry draft
@@Data782 I know I did it before maybe it was a glitch lol idk
You said when you turn of owner it doesn't give you a budget constraint. I'm maxed out on my accounts and I only have 8 scouts now.
What did I do wrong?
Right! Your "budget" will always exist but, if owner mode is turned off, you can disregard and go over it. Are scouts refusing to sign with you due to a lack of budget?
@@Data782 They say they want to sign but I had no room on my staff. When I look at my staff I only had 8 scouts but my budget was maxed out.
@@venomad77 And you're sure that owner mode is off? I've never seen or heard of that happening. Worst case, fire a low level coach to accommodate and the try to rehire? Very, very weird..
@@Data782 I ended up redoing my league. It worked fined the second time around. Thanks for responding so quickly. I enjoy your videos.
@@venomad77 My pleasure! Really odd nonetheless. I appreciate the kind words! :) Best of luck and feel free to leave any other questions that may arise!
I mean, isn’t this cheesing the system and putting yourself at a massive advantage over the CPU? What fun is that?
Coaches? Anyone know how to hire coaches that will develop rookies the best
When it comes to coaches and player development, you'll want a head coach with high teaching/coach influence attributes, as well as their specialty being "forwards" for forward prospects, "defense" for D prospects, etc. It's your decision on how you want your staff to be built!
1:23:02 will there be a player growth video?
The more I play 23, the more confused I get with player growth. My best players regress, my worst progress, and nothing seems to really follow logic. In my opinion, when it comes to performance growth which is the most important, you'll want to find players who have good base attributes, bring them to the NHL/AHL when they can play with appropriate ice time (not getting buried), and make sure that they have complimentary linemates. From there, X-Factors may be added, special teams time to supplement even-strength ice-time, and so on. I hope that helps because it unfortunately isn't always a formulaic process!
I have never seen a scout improve...ever.
I promise that they do! The overall takes longer than the region accuracy, but both improve over time
this is insane...
Tell me about it! I'm not sure if you mean the process or the results haha but I agree on both fronts! 😂
@@Data782 both I just spent a total of 90 minutes of my life scouting fictional draft picks.
The reason your scouting "player personality" is just so you get 4 bars right? I don't think personality matters unless your using moral.
Negative! "Character Assessment" is never touched - only playing style, strengths & weaknesses, skills assessment, and potential & comparison.
