I for one know how you put your heart and soul into getting the images and video content for your vlogs. Your subscribers follow you for good reason and even though you get the regular thumbs down (probably from the same people 😉) you carry on regardless. Very shortly I will be out again sharing all the adventures and showing you how it's done 😂❤📸

Hi Paul, I agree with Doug's comment below ................ Best to create content in your own style and present it the way that's best suits you ............. Personally I think your videos are great, and I love the way you detail each shot and what your thought process is with regards to composition .......... keep up the good work 📷👍

Personally speaking, I think you are an inspirational character Paul. Having come to landscape photography late in life and basically not having a clue how to take photos that I can be justifiably proud of, your vlogs have given me the help, encouragement and confidence I so badly needed. With all that is going on right now getting face to face advice is just not possible and your well explained and thought out vlogs have helped me enormously and I can see the improvement in my photos every time I venture out.
As for the rock, it displays the middle finger salute and is what those who give your vlogs a thumbs down deserve. Whatever length your vlogs are is just fine by me, just keep doing what you do so well 👍✔

Hi Paul, Nice video but slightly off with the compression thing.
By keeping the camera in the same position and only altering the focal length of the lens you will only alter the field of view.
To obtain greater compression you need to move further away and adjust the framing to match if possible the shot taken at the wider focal length whilst using a longer focal length.
This will make an object in the distance ( hills etc ) appear larger in comparison to the foreground. Conversely a wide angle shot with the same framing will appear to make the distant hills etc much smaller than the foreground. I hope this makes sense!
By the way, where is Mrs C - OK I hope...

Grits and mudstone from the Carboniferous Period (320-322 million years ago) from a river delta, with the occasional inundation by the sea; pushed up by tectonic movement - the earth's crust wanders over the surface of the planet as it floats on the hot magma beneath. Like the skin on a warm custard tart that's been shaken about. Then eroded by wind and rain since then. The BGS (British Geological Survey) Map viewer is a marvelous site.
If you want to see a big stone willy you should look up the Clackmannan Stone, which takes pride of place in the centre of the town.
Compression - it doesn't exist. Try an experiment, take a 50mm shot of a tree in the centre of a landscape. Take the same shot with a 120mm lens from the same spot. Crop the 50mm shot so it only includes the same view as the 120mm shot. Everything looks the same, other than the background in the 50mm crop won't be as sharp. Longer lenses just have a deeper focal range - they don't warp light. A wide angle lens again just has a wider field of view but with some lens distortion around the edges. One could argue that lense distortion is warping light but as the lumens decrease the more it distorts I don't think it's the same concept. I'm pretty sure macro lenses are just able to focus at a closer distance, they don't warp light.

Love your knowledge sir... warm custard perfect lol... as for the Clackmannan Stone wow not right hahah

@@paulcomptonpdphotography I thought compression existed, until I read a dreadful book on landscape photography, no name, no packdrill, but it did a straight comparison and logically went through each step practically. The only bit of useful info in the whole damn book!

I love your enthusiasm and enjoy your vlogs... but, I rarely watch every minute of them. I find myself fast forwarding through the tramping up hills etc and the (as you put it yourself) waffle to get to the meat. They're good vlogs IMHO but (again IMHO) need editing down. I'm as sure as I can be that you could do it without losing the warmth and enthusiasm you radiate while retaining the instructional value. Is it possible that if the vlogs were shorter (and other snappers I subscribe to rarely if ever exceed 15mins) you might find your subscription and viewing numbers going up? Please don't stop. You enjoy it, we enjoy it. But I'm guessing something has put the 'should I edit more' thing in your head and, well, give it some thought. You'd simplify a composition to give it more impact without a second thought. That approach could work for the vlogs too. Best wishes.
