These sermons are so helpful because they give concrete, practical counsel on proper Christian behavior and living.

Thanks for the homily! I'm learning a lot; I didn't know that "Oh my Gosh" was the same that "Omg".

Father's take on ballroom dancing is great. I love dancing. So glad it can be done rightly.

Thank you, one thing that amazes me about Christianity is the way it brings ancient wisdom such as Greek Philosophy into perfection. Comes in mind Plato's three levels of souls; head, chest and loins and probably nothing can bring those into a complete understanding other than Christianity in its fullness(Think Pope John Paul II teaching Theology of the Body and surely this homily).

Brian Murphy right. I have 3 small children, so I guess I need to take more time to think about what I'm saying.

you could just say them since it's totally okay to say them despite what the senile priest suggests. That's why they exist as alternatives in the first place.

When changing our speech, I think it comes in stages. It is best to tackle it one thing at a time. For example, in my case, I had to get rid of swearing and profanity first. And I replaced them at the time with joke profanities, such as "What the math!" and such. Or I also would sometimes say "yikes." But now that, by God's grace, I have for the most part gotten rid of cursing, I am trying to clean up my speech even more. In reality, there is no reason to curse even in a joking matter. It is really only done out of learned habit. I'm trying to replace such phrases with just saying genuine words. Such as "Oh no" or "that's not good". I hope that helps.

@@Unclenate1000 You are wrong. The reason why they exist in the first place is because, during a time when using God's name in vain was not okay in society, those who wished to do so made up slain terms so that they could get away with it. Especially on tv and radio. I do agree that it is less wrong than the direct cursing, and especially if someone does not no any better. But ideally, it should be our goals as Christians to completely clean up our speech over time.
Calling such a reasonable and well composed priest such a thing could only be done by someone who was having an off day - or life.

He did say that those sorts of table manners were slight in comparison. There are reasons for table manners, which are not often taught today. And because they are not taught today, it is likely less of a violation. I suppose we should try our best to bring back godly customs in whatever way we can - including table manners. Yet, as with everything, there are exceptions to rules. If there is a legitimate reason to break a custom it is obviously understandable. Not everyone can kneel at mass for instance if injured.

Father said at worst, it tends to be an imperfection not sinful. The general point is to not habituate oneself to eating like an animal and to practice manners. Man is a rational animal, not an animal.
Catholic manual of civility by TIA is a short little read and they also have a YT channel where the topic is addressed.

    Modesty - Decorum
    Subvirtues of modesty
Decorum or Ornateness - dress, speech, and comportment fit who we are.
3 Areas: speech, clothing and possessions, and comportment.
Speech - in mixed company some topics may be off the list. Men struggle more with this because they find vulgar topics humorous.
    Profanity vs. vulgarity
Profanity - words, terms related to religion used out of place.
    Vulgarity - cussing, etc.
    Anger and malice destroy modesty.
Malice - not seeing the better good of an individual.
Fidgeting - violates virtue of decorum because you are not moderating your fidgeting according to reason.
Customs - etiquette and manners of the country.
    Comportment
Vice of hilarity vs. virtue of temperance - person always laughing or telling jokes. Moderation of the pleasures of the flesh.
    Clothing and possessions
    Supernatural vs. natural modesty/decorum

Interesting to note than none of the women portrayed between 5:26 and 6:13 are dressed modestly.

Why do they bring little kids to these conferences, surely some one can keep the child for a couple hours. And sure enough they start making noise and interrupting FR.

The Holy Bible, 1 Timothy, 2:9...also that the women should dress themselves modestly and decently in suitable clothing, not with their hard braided, or with gold, pearls or expensive clothes, but with good works, as is proper for women who profess reverence for God. Let a woman.......provided they continue in faith and love and holiness, with modesty”.
