I started reading IT on Monday and I´m about 350 pages in and it´s sooo good, I´m struggling to put it down!! Absolutely in love with the story and characters and I love the way Stephen King writes. So thank you for going on about his books because I wouldn´t have read it if it wasn´t for you planning on reading many many more
@@faeesmoonpalace Excellent choice. IT is the second book I've read of his. The first being Different Seasons. They both made me love his writing and get into his other works.
What I'd give to be reading it (ahem) for the first time. Its that impactful. It's the only book that I immediately wanted to reread after finishing the final page.
Salem’s lot got me out of my reading slump earlier this year after a couple years and it was my first King book. Today I’ve just finished my 8th which is Dreamcatcher and I’m not planning on stopping anytime soon! His writings however thick and long at some point of the book, they just feel rewarding for me to spend the hours reading them. Also glad that I met different types of horror between those 2 and the other 6 (It, Shining, Dr. sleep, Cujo, Misery, Shawshank) and your point on Dark Tower series, I never find the urge to dig that one in, now they’re simply climbed my TBR list! Keep up the great work on your channel, I’m happy that I found your videos on King’s work.
After reading the first few dark tower books, i started watching your videos for advice. Thanks so much man, you've open my eyes to so many more amazing Stephen King books, especially The Stand!
I still haven't read beyond The Dark Tower series, but since I loved that series so much, I will definitely be reading more by King. It never hurts to have some additional motivation from a Mike's Book Reviews "Why You Should Read" video, though!
Picked up Billy Summers on a whim because the cover looked cool at Barnes and Nobles back when it first came out. Knew SK but never read him.. hadn’t read for pleasure in probably a decade and this author got me fully emerged back into reading. I’ve read over 30 SK novels since then and watched every King video put out on this channel. Quite literally, life changing hahaha. Hell ya Mike keep em coming!
Needful Things was the book that hooked me as a kid. As I read it I felt I was reading something I shouldn’t, and it was so good. Because that one was my first, it remains my favorite, but so many are close favorites (and in reality better given they are masterpieces).
This brings back fond high school memories of borrowing Stephen King books from the public library. I am hoping to re-read his older books and then continue his other books. Hope to be starting with Carrie soon. It's been so many years since I last read it! Thanks for sharing!
Honestly could listen to you talk about Stephen king forever man. I think you really understand his stuff well. I just picked up the 2024 edition of salems lot and omg is it an experience. If you can get me to put the game down and have me not wanting to read, NEEDING to read then I think you’re an excellent author. I do remember reading the first 30 or so pages of Billy summers years back when it first came out and loving it but salems lot so far is my favorite king book and I haven’t even finished it

First book I read from Stephen King was Thinner. Fell in love, haven't looked back. I was 14 maybe 15 . My son started reading King at 10 years old (he was the reader in school that gets all the awards in school for comprehension, speed, etc). When the Dark Tower movie came out (with Idris Alba) we got a tattoo across our backs (my son's idea) with the first line of my son's favorite series - The Dark Tower. I have the first part with a rose and he has the second part with a rose. "The man in black fled across the desert, and the Gunslinger followed." Iconic. Yeah, we're constant readers alright. Thanks for the video, my favorites of yours are anything with King content, but I enjoy them all!
I always wanted to read when I was a kid but had such a hard time finding books to cater to my attention span and interests. I first picked up The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon in highschool because it was the smallest Stephen King book I could find, and he was an author I always wanted to read. I loved that book, I read The Long Walk years later and decided I needed to read more. My boyfriend had a decent sized collection so he brought all of his books out for me to sort through, he got me The Instutute the Christmas it came out and it was the biggest book I ever read. My Boyfriend then pestered me to read The Stand Uncut (I was scared of the size lol) When I got to the last 200 pages of that book I couldnt put it down until I finished. The Shining came next, Pet Cemetary and now I'm halfway through IT He opened my world up to the joy of reading like I always wanted, for that and many other reasons similar to yours, he is also my favourite author of all time!
I like your fantasy book reviews, but I'm always here for your King reviews. Your videos for Different Seasons are actually the reason why I became a constant reader.
I became a constant reader this year and this video made me so happy. I just finished Dolores Claiborne, which definitely is a new favorite, and someone gushing over Stephen King is just exactly what I needed right now. ❤
Jesus Mike. The passion in this video is ridiculous. It’s almost like King is your favorite author! Awesome video man. King is my favorite writer and everything you said it spot on. It’s amazing that in some ways King is underrated? When you talked about his detail in character all I could think about was the Chef and Andy in under the dome. Ancillary characters but one of the most entertaining relationships I have ever read. King does not miss with character development. Love hearing your passion and King is underrated!
You're Stephen King content, and your channel are the main reasons why I started reading through King and got the gumption to start a booktube channel....and your coffee sippin' skills ain't half bad
I'm a new King reader currently on my first journey to the Dark Tower and related books. I'm so glad I started. The Stand has to be one of my top 3 books of all time.
I've been meaning to jump on the King bandwagon for ages, but never got around to it, but in the last year a re-watch of Misery and The Shining have finally got me to pick up Misery, along with you extolling King's virtues in this and other videos. I can't wait to start my King journey!
My favorite King book is the first one I read of him, "The Green Mile". Love so many of his books... but I haven't read "It". But Mike, you've convinced me to read "It," so it´s my next book for this October. Love tour channel!
I’ve read eleven or twelve of King’s books so far, they have all been great, and I want to read so many more. I think 11/22/63 might be my fave so far. You’ve definitely made me want to read Salem’s Lot. That one or Dr. Sleep will be my next by him I think 😊
I found your channel in 2020 when I was looking for King books I never read, and you never disappoint me. I'm still struggling with the Dark Tower series.
I have been reading King since I was a teenager and now I'm 35, but I have spread my reading out of his books so much that I forget things and I have to reread him to remember things like details that connect his books. I didn't realize for years his books were interconnected until I started noticing that a lot of his books take place in either Derry or Castle your channel really helps.
Started with the Dark Tower and loved it from beginning to end (on your recommendation, I read Salem’s Lot about midway through-worth it). Now working through the King catalogue in publication order to catch the multiverse tie-ins. My goal is one King book every 2-3 other fantasy/sci-fi books. I planned it well enough to be reading The Stand right now for spooky season and loving all of the Easter eggs!
I do love your Stephen king quote on your book shelf you have a lovely collection of king I am read misery I listen to it last time but loving the reread because I am reading it myself I have read all the dark tower I remember them so well Eddie, susanna, jake oyy great read really want to read again but he has so many I want to read stand, it and more great vid I am looking up your other king vids 👍
I've only read two King books (1st two DT) and I have been itching to read "classic King". I bought Salem's Lot which is now on deck/night stand to be read next. I couldn't help myself and read the prologue and I have a feeling this one is going to be a much needed 5 Star Read. Excellent video Sir. Oh and your Texans are looking real good man!!
Im not a constant reader but a gamer. Im playing silent hill 2 remake and never thought the place is heavily inspired by kings stories. Silent hill is indeed a small town in maine.
You introduced me to Stephen King and convinced me to try his books out (started with Misery). Now I have a whole shelf for just King books 😆. No regrets 😌😌 And thanks 🤩
Finally, your videos convinced my to try him again. And to read "Different Seasons". I go along with many things, he's a phenomenon and the whole aura of his writing is unique, he has so much fantasy and vivid characters and, yes, he transports me to America. I see quality in all of this and because of it I always wished I could read his novels. And I really love his short stories ("The Man In The Black Suit" - the best, King didn't like to write it but his fans liked it and it won awards). I think his style is made for them, I but I just couldn't read his novels. Tried 5 or 6 times. I got to page 100 of Dark Tower 1 because my ex girlfriend is a big King fan just like you and she's to this day high praising the Dark Tower series, but (if my memory serves me right) it was written stiffly and meandering for my taste. I got to around 50 pages before the end of "Duma Key", just before the resolution, put the book away to continue the next day. Never picked it up and didn't feel I missed anything. I don't think negative of King's writing in any judgemental, condescending way, that "I can do better" or "he's sooo bad", rather neutrally. I want to become a writer myself and study the craft of writing for years now before I want to publish my first novel. So I know from experience how EASY (!) it is to see the flaws in other authors' writing and miss them in your own (!). That's why I don't judge easily. Writing is hard, very, very hard and frustrating at times if you really honor the word and the craft and want to learn everything. I'd never thought that when I wrote my first novel five years ago. But because of this I always think that King doesn't polish his drafts enough when I read a few pages. He could easily cut words. Lesser authors would get their drafts back from their editors to polish them. He does what he warns about in "About Writing". If the road to hell is paved with adverbs, he will scream all the way down 😆 I hope I didn't anger any King fan here. And maybe I'm wrong, because... ... I've still got "Cujo" and "The Shining". I'll start with Shining. P.S. Yes! "Lonesome Dove" is a masterpiece, novel and the movies. I saw yesterday that there's a video on this channel about it. Have still to watch it.
Couldn't agree more. He's not my favourite author of all-time (that's Bernard Cornwell), but my god you can't ever go wrong with a Stephen King book. I'm reading 'The Body' at the moment. So good.
Mike! Please pick my next Stephen King book for me - I’ve read The Shining, Different Seasons & On Writing. I read across all genres so open to anything.
Favorite action thriller book of all time: Running Man I think this is a great book to get into Stephen King. Then of course stand by me or Eyes of the Dragon for people who want a light entry. My mother for example even tho she is an avid reader never touched King. So for her I suggest led Mr Mercedes and she loved it.
I started reading King about 2 years ago, and I've read 3 of his books, they were all 5 stars so I decided this year I'm gonna read Dark Tower and a bunch of the connected novels and eventually everything else he's written
I’ll never understand why everyone says King can’t write an ending. He doesn’t always land sure, but when he does holy cow… the endings to IT and The Shining made me cry
Last week I read my first Stephen King book which was Carrie, I choose that one cause it wasn't that long of a book (around 200+ pages) and to get a taste of how he writes his books. Needles to say I had a blast, completed it in pretty much a day. I also have the IT book which i will read sometime in the future but because of how big the book is and also because im already reading the wheel of time I dont have the will to start to start reading such a huge book just yet. But i sure do look forward to digging my teeth into it when the time comes.
This Spooky Season so far has been all Stephen King for Me ! Read 'Pet Sematary' and now am 70% done with 'IT'. Add that to 'The Stand' and 'The Shining' and that's all the King Books I have read so far....but the next one from Him I'll be picking up is either going to be 'Misery' or 'Salem's Lot'. Will do 'Dark Tower' and '11.22.63' next year! And Mike, You are the reason I started down this King's Road...so Thank You!
I will never get enough of your unapologetic King gushing! As a character-driven reader, I feel like I am doing myself a disservice by not picking up more of his works. You bumped him up the priority list again, thanks!
I read Cell in 5th grade and loved it. That’s where I got my first taste I was shocked to hear people don’t like it. I’m sorta afraid to go back and reread it now
He is my favorite author. I liked him all my life because of the movies. I'm 43 now and only started listening to his novels on Audible last year. I have listened to 44 now and love his books! His endings are not great in my personal opinion. Some of them are not bad, but I personally hate the end of the Dark Tower series and especially The Long Walk. A few others as well, but those stick out to me. I don't like open-ended endings. I like the author to finish it, not for it to be left up to my imagination. I am not a journey over the destination person. I need both to truly love the book. I still love the Dark Tower series, though, and will go back to books 1-4 and maybe even the others someday. Rolland is one of my favorite characters in any kind of media ever.
What is the first book in the Dark Tower series? I love Stephen King's stories as well, but have been resistant to beginning the Dark Tower series because I don't want to wait around for the last one. Truthfully, I don't know if this series is completed, that is the other question. If it is then I'll dive in. I've read all his novels and almost all of his short stories, have only two more in You Like It Darker, then will have to begin again. His writing has been with me throughout my adolescence and adulthood, you could say we grew up together! Anyway, thank you for this video, I'm one of your subs, and get a lot to delve into from your reviews. All the Best.
The best example of a 10/10 missing the landing was Under the Dome. Still just dropped it to like an 8 for me, but man, the escalation of events in that book are just perfect for me. Hate that the ending could coalesce all those moments into something powerful
The Stand was my first King novel. The second half of the novel showcased some of the best character development. There was a rush in the second half and the end was particularly bad. Many people say that this book was their best book ever, so I'm kind of confused reading other SK books. On the SK shelf I have Shining, Salems Lot, Misery Pet Semetary and IT. I hope they don't disappoint me like the Stand had.
I'm reading my first King book right now (Pet sematary) and I gotta say I'm pleasantly suprised (kind of weird thing to say about horror 😅). King suprised me with doing a thing I didnt think possible. I usually get bored very quickly with everyday life in stories but King has such a way with words and character work that I find myself intrigued at every single pace. Long story short, this won't be my last Stephen King book. 😁
Greatest books until about 2002, but for the most part we don’t talk about the movies or adaptations ; ). Great Video per the usual my friend. Thank you.
King is the king of writers. What an author. He is an institution as a writer. Characters are sublime, they stories are amazing and the tense he can build up is unmatched. All hail the King.
Stephen King is my favorite author and I love all your content, but especially your King. I’m going to ask what is I’m sure is an annoying question for you by now. When do you plan to get back to your SK tier ranking videos?
Thank you for making this I needed to hear this. I have been scared because of the size of his books..Also don’t know where to start. But I need to because lately I haven’t liked any mystery books I read any more. But thank you. What would you read for October?
One of the endings I remember being disappointed in was Needful Things. I loved the rest of the book but I remember hating the ending. I don’t recall exactly why as it was a long time ago that I read it. I might need to revisit it.
I started reading Stephen King because of you!! And I can't thank you enough 🤩 My favourit book so far is IT - I really felt like I was a member of the Losers Club!
One of my spooky season reads this year includs Full Dark, No stars. Finished it last week and wow, amazing collection! Have you read it? How would you rank it vs other collection of the King? I would put it high up.
King is my all time favorite i haven't read anything i dont like even his less popular books are still great and i think rose the hat is probably one if the best villains ever created in anything
Norman Daniels in rose madder always gave feelings of dread every time you read his perspective parts in the books eg : when you least expect it I’ll get you!
Been reading his books for years my favorite book's are Dolores Claiborne so underrated along with the movie adaptation starring kathy bates Billy summers The dead zone
I don’t understand why certain people say he’s a bad author? To me he’s got it all: character and story development, suspense, beauty in descriptions of emotions and thought, and he has insight into how people think and process things, And he can set an atmosphere that places you right into the story. Anyone who writes more than 10 books is going to have a dud every now and then. 🤗
It's unfair how insanely prolific he is while still being so... idk, creative? Tapping into something essential sometimes. I'm about 400 pages into It and see why you recommended it. Wonder where I would be if I had started there instead of the ones I managed to obtain? And yet I still have read so little of his work overall. Pet Sematery and Salem's Lot are still high up on the to-read list.
I didn’t need convincing on King as I’ve read over 40 books so far!! However, my 10 year old wants me to read one to her and I’m scratching my head for what is appropriate (free of ‘oh Stephen’ moments 😂). What do you think?
king is literally my comfort author. The vibes in his books are unmatched.
He was for me also for a long time now it is Jim Butcher

I do love your Stephen king quote on your book shelf you have a lovely collection of king I am read misery I listen to it last time but loving the reread because I am reading it myself I have read all the dark tower I remember them so well Eddie, susanna, jake oyy great read really want to read again but he has so many I want to read stand, it and more great vid I am looking up your other king vids 👍
That quote resonated with me so much the first time I saw it.
@@mikesbookreviewsit look good above you SK books, which book it from ?
I've only read two King books (1st two DT) and I have been itching to read "classic King". I bought Salem's Lot which is now on deck/night stand to be read next. I couldn't help myself and read the prologue and I have a feeling this one is going to be a much needed 5 Star Read. Excellent video Sir. Oh and your Texans are looking real good man!!
Salem's is a great launch point.
Im not a constant reader but a gamer. Im playing silent hill 2 remake and never thought the place is heavily inspired by kings stories. Silent hill is indeed a small town in maine.
Wish they’d give the first one the full rebuild treatment.
You introduced me to Stephen King and convinced me to try his books out (started with Misery). Now I have a whole shelf for just King books 😆. No regrets 😌😌
And thanks 🤩
Happy to help!
Your Stephen King content is one of the best 🩶.My first Stephen King was Night Shift about 10 years ago and since then I became Constant Reader .
If the road to hell is paved with adverbs, he will scream all the way down 😆
I hope I didn't anger any King fan here.
Not at all. No one author is for everyone and at least you tried!
Couldn't agree more. He's not my favourite author of all-time (that's Bernard Cornwell), but my god you can't ever go wrong with a Stephen King book. I'm reading 'The Body' at the moment. So good.
💯
Yay my favourite! Killer opening as ever!
Thanks!
You got me caught up in Sun Eater first, I'm on Demon in White right now, so King is gonna have to wait lol. Thanks Mike!
I’m also reading demon in White. This book is NUTs
It's a good wait!
Mike! Please pick my next Stephen King book for me - I’ve read The Shining, Different Seasons & On Writing. I read across all genres so open to anything.
Favorite action thriller book of all time: Running Man
I think this is a great book to get into Stephen King. Then of course stand by me or Eyes of the Dragon for people who want a light entry. My mother for example even tho she is an avid reader never touched King. So for her I suggest led Mr Mercedes and she loved it.
Yeah, I usually recommend Different Seasons because they are 4 quick reads. And they're wonderful.
Running Man was so good and so different from the Arnold flick
Currently reading Salem’s Lot and I just love how immersive SK writing is. Definitely my favorite author 🤝🏻
Such an S tier book.
Couldn’t agree more! He really does have something for everyone.
Absolutely
Reading Bag Of Bones for the first time this week. I went in not knowing much about the story and like always end up loving it.
It's quite underrated
Last week I read my first Stephen King book which was Carrie, I choose that one cause it wasn't that long of a book (around 200+ pages) and to get a taste of how he writes his books. Needles to say I had a blast, completed it in pretty much a day. I also have the IT book which i will read sometime in the future but because of how big the book is and also because im already reading the wheel of time I dont have the will to start to start reading such a huge book just yet. But i sure do look forward to digging my teeth into it when the time comes.
Yeah, Carrie is a light, quick read.
Excellent SK evaluation.
Gracias!
Wow dude wasn't expecting a video drop this early in the morning
I always felt Joe Abercrombie was the best at making all his characters so unique and different from each other
I just read Joyland for the first time. Really quick read and a bit of a coming of age story too. Enjoyed it a lot.
Believe it or not I still haven’t read it
I loved it.
Best Stephen King expert on this site!
Sounds like an awesome October
I will never get enough of your unapologetic King gushing! As a character-driven reader, I feel like I am doing myself a disservice by not picking up more of his works. You bumped him up the priority list again, thanks!
I'm so glad!
I read Cell in 5th grade and loved it. That’s where I got my first taste
I was shocked to hear people don’t like it. I’m sorta afraid to go back and reread it now
Ha ha I am a little nervous about my re-read, too. Didn't remember it being as bad as some say.
I've been a Constant Reader for 37 years, and love most of his books immensely. The Dark Tower is also one of my favorite fantasy series.
This is the Way
I've only read a handful of King's books; I definitely need to try some more.
Correct. You do.
Thank you for not spoiling dark tower still reading
I hear ya on the endings! Some are better than others.
The series is complete. Dive in. The first book is the gunslinger. I found the first one a little dry but the rest are outstanding (my opinion)
The best example of a 10/10 missing the landing was Under the Dome. Still just dropped it to like an 8 for me, but man, the escalation of events in that book are just perfect for me. Hate that the ending could coalesce all those moments into something powerful
11/22/63 was my first Stephen King book. And now, I own like 4. My library is very small.
The Jaunt is one of the finest short stories I’ve ever read. Not to mention IT, Horror’s Moby-Dick and one of my favorites ever.
The Jaunt is exquisite
Zany, bonkers yet familiar. Truly a surreal catalog.
Those are the facts.
Which version of The Stand did you read. The original or the extended uncut version?
@@stevenstewart782 the uncut
I'm reading my first King book right now (Pet sematary) and I gotta say I'm pleasantly suprised (kind of weird thing to say about horror 😅). King suprised me with doing a thing I didnt think possible. I usually get bored very quickly with everyday life in stories but King has such a way with words and character work that I find myself intrigued at every single pace. Long story short, this won't be my last Stephen King book. 😁
It’s amazing how well and engaging he writes slice of life.
My story with king started after watching the Movie 1408, after that my journey begins.
Underrated flick!
So far I've only read Carrie, Salem's Lot and The Shinning. Carrie was more tragic than scary I think.
I think Revival is so underrated. I recommend it for any Stephen King fan.
Greatest books until about 2002, but for the most part we don’t talk about the movies or adaptations ; ). Great Video per the usual my friend. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
King is the king of writers. What an author. He is an institution as a writer. Characters are sublime, they stories are amazing and the tense he can build up is unmatched. All hail the King.
👑
So far I've read Later, Carrie, 11/22/63, Pet Sematary and You Like It Darker. Let's see which one I pick up next
U have succeeded with me Mike, Dark Tower, 11.22.63 and Green Mile so far...
Outstanding!
I love Stephen King. It pains me to admit that I haven't read everything he's put out, but some of my favourite reads are King books.
He’ll, I haven’t read everything ha ha
love king
Currently read the Shining. Finding its one of his best atm even tho it is a slower paced King novel.
It's a slow burn that rewards the reader if they stick with it
I started reading Stephen King because of you!! And I can't thank you enough 🤩 My favourit book so far is IT - I really felt like I was a member of the Losers Club!
Yes, he knows writes good prose. Case on point: The Man in the Black Suit.
Definitely love me some King 🤘
One of my spooky season reads this year includs Full Dark, No stars. Finished it last week and wow, amazing collection! Have you read it? How would you rank it vs other collection of the King? I would put it high up.
Only King can write a book about 100 boys walking and make you care about every last one.
The Long Walk will be my next King read
King is my all time favorite i haven't read anything i dont like even his less popular books are still great and i think rose the hat is probably one if the best villains ever created in anything
Norman Daniels in rose madder always gave feelings of dread every time you read his perspective parts in the books eg : when you least expect it I’ll get you!
Hey Mike, I’m a massive SK fan, and I’ve been planning to start a TH-cam channel soon. I’d love to do a livestream with you to chat about King.
Been reading his books for years my favorite book's are
Dolores Claiborne so underrated along with the movie adaptation starring kathy bates
Billy summers
The dead zone
Dolores is so good!
Hey Mike, I have been wondering, what did you think of The Stand miniseries from 2020?
I don’t understand why certain people say he’s a bad author?
To me he’s got it all: character and story development, suspense, beauty in descriptions of emotions and thought, and he has insight into how people think and process things, And he can set an atmosphere that places you right into the story.
Anyone who writes more than 10 books is going to have a dud every now and then.
🤗
For the same reason people say they hate Atlas Shrugged and couldn't tell you a single thing about it. They feel like they have to.
Just because I’ve heard you mention it before in your previous kindle videos, do you think you’ll be snagging the new kindle color?
Reading Pet Sematary for the first time ever and am loving it!
Since a lot of Stephen King's protagonists are authors, which character would you most want to read their books?
I didn’t need convincing on King as I’ve read over 40 books so far!! However, my 10 year old wants me to read one to her and I’m scratching my head for what is appropriate (free of ‘oh Stephen’ moments 😂). What do you think?
do you plan on doing a review for the new salems lot movie??
We did it on my other channel, Mike's Media Reviews
