After Brisbane regionals I ended on a record with 5 ties (all quite winnable) now granted, my opponents playing slow had alot to do with it, I had to look at ways to avoid this happening. Going into Melbourne regionals, I took alot of what you said in this video on board and things improved alot. Not having a single tie. Conceding early was my biggest hurdle. I always felt like scooping when I had even the smallest chance to win was quite a hard choice. But sometimes you just got to read the game, understand how the turns will play out and just concede. Sometimes this also means reading you opponents intentions. Seeing if they are playing to win or to tie. Often that has alot to do with games ending in a tie.

yes, understanding when your opponent is angling for the tie is also very important. Call a judge when necessary and understand that you will need more time than usual to close out the final game.

Was going to mention the amount of shuffles for a deck to be fully randomized and you mentioned it right as i was typing this up. Honestly these are really great tips for new players/ players struggling with time. Another thing to potentially add is gold fish your deck along with practicing shuffling, especially if you mainly play online. Same reasoning as mentioned in the video, get used to those basic game actions in paper so you can be efficient as possible and be solid on most of your early game lines.

an important tip is to know when to tord it and try to tie if you are 0-1 with only 20 mins left on the clock

Really insightful especially about calculating potential points for the 1-1 vs 2-1 finish to scoop for game 3, which can be especially tough if you’re a comeback deck like Garde or Tina. All of these things I definitely notice inexperienced players not taking advantage of in earlier rounds

These calculations apply to other areas of the game as well. Approximating your odds can help you make stronger decisions!
