While I certainly wouldn’t be upset if Montreal got the number 1 and I agree they haven’t had a top tier pick really since price, but I’m not sure you can say they “deserve” it considering they just had a deep run in the playoffs last year, give a couple seasons at the bottom/missing playoffs then you could make that case I think. Im not sure any team deserves the number 1 pick this year, basically all the teams at the bottom are there due to some really bad management/ownership decisions. Buffalo has mismanaged their top tier talent and signed horrible contracts to boot, Arizona tried cheating and got busted but they would have been bad anyway, Ottawa has already got some good picks over the past couple years but they probably could be the most deserving but even they had their melnyk issues when karlson was around.
@@deweyw3737 Montreal never really went through bad management.. Marc B, did a good job. They should have and would have won in 2014 if not for Price getting hurt (fukn' Krieder). @@JoE-kx7dw no you are right for the most part it really hasn’t been bad management, not like other teams towards the bottom, but the contracts they signed going into last season weren’t going to age well and likely should have just started a proper rebuild, it worked out real good short term absolutely and I certainly understand, if you know it’s webers final year, you would want to do right by him, but that should have probably meant trading him to a top team and retaining money while getting a good haul of draft picks but now they are in the position of selling those pieces to try and rebuild properly and yes hindsight is 20/20 but all that goes to my original point of do they deserve first overall? I don’t think so there’s been teams floating around the bottom far longer that could use it, they still have pieces to move. That being said they have some players that I love, I think Romanov is a beast, Suzuki and caulfield will be great as well but they need a year or two at the bottom to get that 2 or 3 extra pieces through the draft and then I see them being one of the better teams in the league, obviously depending on how they do actually drafting
