WOW! This is one of the best videos I've seen on TH-cam. Paquito's sax solo was amazing. Even Dizzy loved it! We get to meet Paquito this September. Can't wait! Thanks SOOOO much for posting this!
These are the Official Heavy Hitters, everyone a virtuoso on their respective instruments. I've watched this concert a zillion times and still am in AWE!!! They are AWESOME!!!
trying to write a comment .. but i can't really find words worthy enough to describe the feeling you get just by listening to them play and watch their joy from the music ..THANK YOU ^^
Arturo's wailing lead trumpet here is amazing, as always. This is not one of Dizzy's best solos, but the late trumpeter is a legend and did help invent bebop, and also helped to popularize early Latin-jazz. He's also a heck of a dancer, showman, and bandleader. His puffed-cheek embouchure and up-titled trumpet bell have helped to make him a widely recogized visual icon. And his distictive musical style has made him legendary music figure
This man is the bomb!!! Saw him perform in 1989 in Omaha, NE. Second row from the stage. Was able to get his autograph and pic. Yes, I went back stage.
The new generations of musicians should take the example of dedication and professionalism of these musicians and follow their steps through their dedication has offered through his career best of them. It has been many years of this concert and this as current as today and to thank Mr. DIZZY GILLESPIE thanks to the many doors were opened to this generation of Cuban musicians, thanks. They are the best. CONGRATULATIONS.
Thank you very much for posting.Very nice remembering to me. I had thr inmense luck of to hear this I think same formation in Campoamor theatre, Oviedo 1989. This is A BAND
FABULOUS MUSIC MAKING!!WHAT A MUSICAL TREAT!!!Thank you..ALL! Saw and met Arturo Sandoval in Florida this year/totally incredible performer and kind person!! These guys just "knit it together" like few others can!!...love it!!
Meeting The Magnificent Mr. Gillespie w/ His Gorgeous Chauffeur...then Secondly Running Into Rick James at LaGuardia Airport was the Highlight of Being a 26 year old leaving NYC!!!
I've seen a LOT of concerts in my life...but there's two people I've seen that have honestly left me BREATHLESS..."Dizzy" and Miles. That's it. Real talk. R.I.P. John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie. What you brought the World can never be replaced. What you've spawned in jazz lovers hearts will live into eternity. I love you man. I really do.
I found this Performance on VHS at a Dollar store....I'm SO glad I bought this! I'm a huge fan of Airto and Ignacio (yes I'm a drummer lol) so when I saw them on this performance I freaked out! "OMG I GOT THIS ENTIRE THING FOR A DOLLAR!!!!"
I just wish people will respect Dizzy, regardless even in this and his other last performances he was still the best on that stage and the world and this time. He is the reason why everyone on that stage became as great as they did without him they would have really been nothing. This is one of my favorites of Dizzy.
In 1989 I lived in Nigeria, and Dizzy came. We went crazy, feted him and made him a chief of several villages. He played with local Jazz artist named Doye Agama (a flautist) and the cuban guy on congas conjured all the yoruba ancestors in a wicked drum solo. One of the great memories. @
estudem a historia desse lenda do jazz Dizzy ajudou Arturo !!!
Diz was also known for being an outspoken member of the Baha’i Faith, a religion that grew out of the Middle about 1860s and embraces all the world’s dominant religions as One. Baha’i also teaches that all people are one and equal .But one persecution is the illegality of educating Baha’i people in Iran to this day. Iran literally bans Baha’i from teaching and studying in Iranian universities, but these people have developed ways to educate and study. Diz believed in one world education system too. Diz was one with so much.
It was also a design of serendipity... a friend fell on his trumpet at a party and bent the bell to that shape! But after playing it he decided he liked it better. Was it king? He played alot of custom designed Martin horns with the up-bent bell as well...
4:45 the piano changes it up makes it soooo groovy and you can feel the whole band just start feeling it. just watch the t-bone player behind the sax soloist
paquito just teared up that solo right in every1's face
probably one of the best sax solos i have ever heard
the world was sadder without Dizzy
VERO...
It literally does not get better than this :)

Grande e genial Dizzy Gillespie . Sua sonoridade é única . Nosso brasileiro Claudio Roditi arrasando também .
mesmo com mais de 70 anos ele ainda conseguia fazer o impossivel no trompete. É o cara!
I've seen a LOT of concerts in my life...but there's two people I've seen that have honestly left me BREATHLESS..."Dizzy" and Miles. That's it.
Real talk.
