- Frieren: Beyond Journey's End is the best anime of 2023, arguably anyway. It's proven that it's the anime to have revived the fantasy genre, and has just gotten better with each and every passing episode, with Frieren decided to cosplay low tier god with what she told Aura to do. It's a 10/10 rollercoaster that'll just keep going up from here.

A good story can be about multiple things. _Frieren_ is about the main character realizing she didn’t get everything out of her journey she could have, and resolving not to do that again. It’s also about her becoming a mentor to get Fern and Stark the ability to stand on their own. It’s _also_ about resolving the unresolved, because ironically, the girl with all the time in the world ran out of time.
I also like the fact that the show depicts the true alien-ness of the thought patterns that a nigh-immortal being like Frieren would have compared to normal humans. 10-year epic journey? Nice little jaunt. Why _shouldn’t_ I spend two years trying to find a particular flower? Legendary stories from the past or defining moments of a child’s life are current events/recent history from her viewpoint. It’s a wonder she can interact on the human scale at all (which is itself part of the story).

We've def had some stinkers, but god damn have the good ones been great.
Bro even the slower-paced episodes still flow like water. Never once felt it taking too long. And man I knew there was someting odd about their lip sync in the last couple episodes. They do make an astounding job animating thia show.

I found some earlier episodes to have pacing issues, like 5 feeling too short but not in the good way, and 6 feeling hella long, but 7 onward they’ve perfected and it flows exactly as you described.
Madhouse put in the work to get such a team together, but it ultimately comes down to the staff themselves. They cooked. The Bocchi Director needs to be on more stuff. He’s hella underrated.
I love how demons are unapologetically evil, it’s so nice to see they’re just predators. No moral quandaries, they’re just doing their thing
Yeah this one is getting better and very much becoming a classic amongst the anime community.
Not really much to say about this one for me, except for the fact that it is gorgeous and beautiful, with its animation, character movement and so much more. Always knew this existed prior to the anime but now the anime really exemplifies how good of a story it actually is.
Oh and Frieren’s power move against the demon is the pinnacle of the anime so far for me.
But anyways, loved the video! Everything looks smooth and ever with jokes littered throughout a really good analysis/breakdown of the series. And the jokes are better too it seems! Nice that you got another voice with you on this and it’s really cool to see you actually “voice” some of the characters to add to the comedy.

Bocchi the rock being one of the best anime last year and Frieren being the best anime of 2023 and being directed by the same director I am excited what anime he will direct next.
The anime is about time and the anime shows both how fast and slow time goes.

Frieren stole anime of the year from Apothecary Diaries, I loved the manga but was unsure how well it'd be received because it oscillates from slow and mellow to intense.
I still need to watch and talk about Apothecary, but I agree that I don't see anything taking it from Frieren.

I thoroughly enjoyed this anime and was totally engulfed by this monster. The combat scenes were a breathe of fresh air, sh*t happened and then it was done. I didn't have to sit through combat scenes that reminded me of other combat scenes, all the fights seemed important and made the characters better at it as time passed on. The companions are pretty awesome as well because non of them seem like dead weight. I like that the show takes it time but also doesn't waste mine, upon second viewing I was able to notice more expressions, animations, and meaning behind certain words. It's so densely packed.

Welcome back Mad House, I missed you.
Mad House as a company still has plenty of issues not too dissimilar from MAPPA, their offshoot. This is entirely the result of the team they cobbled together for it, specifically Saito, the Bocchi Director guy, for knowing how to delegate tasks so well on top of having a lot of experienced animators on the project from actual films leading to less time to make corrections. Mad House is certainly raking in the good publicity tho.

well , don't expect a season2 as currently the anime is not exactly the most watched thing.
*In the west it's not most watched thing. But not in japan which is all that really matters.
It's slowly becoming the most watched thing this season and is v. big in Japan. It will 100% get another season, but it's gonna last for a whole 'nother season anyway.
Oh well it is currently #1 in MAL, if it took a year or two, getting S2 is possible cuz El Dorado arc is the most awaiting part of the story.
@@hel487 but hasn't it been established that Madhouse doesn't do sequel seasons. consider the 28 episodes of frieren as one season. there will be no season 2 from madhouse if a season 2 ever is released it won't be by madhouse.
