I'm in the fields of linguistics, trying to finish my undergrad dissertation and want to go into academia. My research is about gender neutral speech in spanish (I'm from México) and I've definitely felt the rejection of academia and professors alike. Seeing this kind of studies being done is so important, it means that as researchers we can go into unknown territory and we shouldn't be afraid of what The Really Important Academics think. What I get from the work Dr. Roberts & Co. is if you've ever questioned something and wanna find out more, no matter how insignificant it seems, there's a big chance somebody else is making the same question.
I wonder if I am a true furry and not an "otherkin" or "therian". I've never felt like I was supposed to be human. I was never allowed to talk about it because my parents were super religious and homophobic; anything out of the norm was considered a "gateway point for homosexuality". I grew up thinking there was something wrong with me but also, "If this is wrong, I don't want to be right." I just wanted to find another person who felt the same way I did without telling me there was something wrong with me. But mostly, I just wanted to know if there were other people who felt this way other than the suspected werewolves in 1600's Europe....and someone who didn't feel like a wolf. Not that there's anything wrong with wolves, I just didn't feel like one. I felt I was a jaguar, lion or meerkat.
@@rcbif101 Furries don't 'feel' like animals, they simply use animals as characters or alter egos of themselves. However, you can be both therian AND furry!
Hey. This is a really old comment -- but if you're still wondering: You can definitely be both. if you like anthropomorphic animals, you're a furry. If you feel a strong connexion to an animal, you're a therian. There's obviously a bit of overlap there. i consider myself both. (I'm a fox, if that's not obvious.) And I'm sorry that your parent's "religiosity" hurt you so much. I am also a Christian, and it grieves me to see people perverting a faith about love into a thing of hate and fear.
I like this video very much! But I think there are also bad aspect of the furry fandom. In the future we must understend the positive and also the bad aspect of this. Great video. Keep going.

I'm hoping I can join them one day
I took her sociology 101 course. She's an amazing person and after about 20 minutes, became my favourite professor.
That website is what inspired me to study furries and I do my best to help people learn more about them so they don't have on them

A bit of an audio editing tip: Don't put a person entirely on one channel, it's really weird and disturbing to listen to in headphones.
Just started her Soc 101 course, she's amazing
It's Not Just Science...It's FURScience!!!
This makes me so happy!
I want to pave further ways for our fandom to have the brightest future imaginable

That would be therian. Furries just like anthro stuff. Its also a bit of a mental issue that will impact your life. Furry is just a hobby.

The only bad aspects I know about for now are intra-fandom drama and controversial sexual fetishes.
