I still have the tickets that we got to see Elvis!!! And here’s the best part: earlier we saw Top Gun Maverick, and apparently the air conditioning wasn’t working right. I didn’t notice it and it didn’t really bother me, but when we all left the theater, we got these passes to see the movie or another movie for free at any time we pleased!!! On July 13th, we did exactly that!!!! The only thing we paid for was the snacks!!!! We then got to the left side of the very front of the screen. We usually prefer seeing movies from the upper back row, but those were all we had available. But the movie was just mind blowing and awesome!!!! I won’t go into spoilers for people who haven’t seen it yet, but I give it 10 gold crowns!!!! 👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑 Why crowns? Because when it comes to Rock and Roll, Elvis is still the king!!!!!!!

It is harder for us older fans (at 62) to visualize Elvis’ face in some of the scenes, because we know it TOO well. But Austin had me in the ‘68 Comeback! He was THAT GOOD! The ‘leather on the lit square’ was TOTALLY PERFECT! OMG! I remember watching Elvis’ original televised show, and I so..Loved & ADORED him! So Austin had to be extremely good to ‘fool us!’ But, even I, had to rewind the film and look, again and again, to see that it WAS Austin, because he copied them so incredibly fantastic! Elvis’ original ‘I Can Dream’ with its deliberate simplistic Perfection, grabbed my heart and I knew the whole of North America just HAD to feel the same way that I did. It shook us…and slammed our backs, psychologically, against a wall…back into reality, making us question, “WHY we can’t live in Peace & Harmony?” So, one of my MOST beloved and most moving songs, done by a young man playing Elvis HAD to be darn good to please me! No body can measure up to the voice of Elvis. That is just FACT. But the ‘moves’ of this young actor, were shockingly perfect. As perfect as ANY man (who isn’t Elvis) can do, and has done, since the King left us. Yes, PERFECT.

Just like Elvis on stage, you can’t take your eyes off of Austin Butler. I’m old enough to have seen East of Eden when it came out in the 1950s and Austin is definitely as electrifying as seeing James Dean for the first time on the big screen. Austin singing “Trouble” and dancing in that whole scene was an absolute showstopper and he deserves the credit because it is entirely different than Elvis singing “Trouble” in the movie, King Creole. I’m headed back to the theater to see this movie for the third time.

Of course I cried at the end because we all knew how it would end, but I cried early on when I figured out what that rat-bastard “Col. Tom” was actually doing to Elvis to control him from making wise decisions. I only wish Col. Tom wasn’t charged with contributing to the death of Elvis by providing that “doctor” under his supervision to give Elvis those life-sucking drugs‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️

The black community did NOT like Elvis, and even after his death until recent years have struggled to appreciate his work when artists like Otis Blackwell and Chuck Berry are getting overshadowed by his music. Where are the real pioneers of his music? No one will ever know their names or see them on the covers.
As someone from the black community and as someone who attended schools with history books that were manipulated to not share our STORY- I know the entertainment industry is no different, if not worse. I am not gonna let Piers Morgan or any youtubers (race unknown) convince me that my own community loves elvis when I know the complications and controversy that existed with him in our community. The most annoying part of this film was their obsessive urgency to keep convincing the audience that Elvis always credited black people and went into the black streets and brought blacks and whites together. They knew this is one of his biggest controversies and in an effort to save his legacy and cover his back, they overdid this part of the film. This was complete hyperbole and kept getting rubbed in our faces the entire 3 hours. I also found it completely disgraceful and horrendous the release date for this film falls on the day before Michael Jackson's 13th death anniversary. Coincidence? I don't think so.
The moment Michael started breaking the ALL-TIME record sale of biggest selling album of all time- including elvis, The Beatles, etc. OVERNIGHT they called him a freak, a homosexual, a child molester, and everything they could do to turn the public against him. If you saw the Elvis film yourself, you would have seen what they did to him as well the moment he got overnight success and started to say he was being too provocative and couldn't dance the way he could on stage. Michael had it even WORSE- as a black man...

I am reading "Careless Love" The second part of Guralnick's biography, and I really get distressed when they say that Elvis thought of Parker as his father, but Parker thought of Elvis as a prize bull at the fair. Tom Hanks and all of them need to stop saying he was even sort of a good guy. He remembered birthdays and sent cakes and Christmas Cards just like your average abusive excuse for a father. I am to the part where he is selling Elvis' catalogue and anything else he can make money off of that will force Elvis to work until his death which is what happened. Here Elvis, here is your 35th birthday cake and now your father and I, along with the doctors will let you slowly commit suicide, while we watch and take the money. As far as I am concerned the problem in the movie is that you make Parker a whole lot nicer than he was. It would not happen today because of all the restrictions on medication. Elvis was way off the deep end even in 1973 and had zero control over the drugs.

When he died just before remember I told him Elvis will be in heaven you will meet him there. Richard struggled his whole life not too want to die, and be in heaven sooner than we knew it wasn’t his time. He clung to Jesus till he died! Elvis music saved Richards sanity till he died! heres my take on why people go to see it multiple times. one, the editing is frenetic but it works. second, you think its Elvis up there. yes we know its an actor, but this particular actor, Austin, has not developed a movie star persona like say Tom Cruise or even Kurt Russell. Austin is still an actor playing Elvis. I see Austin now in interviews, hes skinny and cute and vulnerable, shy. It is hard to believe he was able to transform so completely. thats why people want to see it again, they are experiencing Elvis as he was, and now we want to see if Austin is still in there someplace.

Am just wondering, why know one felt that way about Elvis at the end? Many spoke of how fat and drugged and weird, and lady crazy he was, where was this God like spirit, once felt by the world? Strange how, it all went away. When are we going to learn, that we all are just human and it's TRUE! know one can live up to the image! Maybe now when the next big talent comes along, we just enjoy the Talent!

Elvis had seem to have about a handful of people that he really truly trusted from what I heard and I believe Austin Butler had they met Elvis would have embraced him and maybe he has some timing place and helped him get through the scenes more like a channeling because the demeanor was like the same type of Soul Essence and I do also believe I remember in 1979 that Kurt Russell portrayed Elvis and he also to me came across with that same kind of Soul Essence which is that unidentifiable but all encompassing magic that you feel when you meet guys like this!

I can't imagine spending two years of your life studying another person thru you and to be playing them thru you in a movie about them and just for a paycheck for doing it even. To me that's insane to be doing thru it and to be loosing two years of your life to be giving it for thru you and All.for another person whom has been gone way before you were ever born even. I don't think anybody should be giving up two years of their life thru them for another person's and just to be earning a paycheck for it for doing it thru them ever.

Austin should be very VERY proud of himself. I was born in 1989 so I didn’t have the pleasure of meeting or seeing Elvis, but this movie allowed me to kind of live through that time. This Mississippi girl is very proud of him. My brother who has met Lisa Marie and Pricilla he is a country music artist. Elvis played a huge role in him moving to Nashville and becoming a musician. I know that is not a lone story but is told by many many people in that line of work, Elvis left his mark on this world no one can ever fill, but Austin did a flawless job. Well done! 😊

How was Priscilla input so important? When the relationship between The Colonel and Elvis was already formed and Priscilla, was not on the front line.By the time she knew anything, it was heard second hand. I guess it is true ladies, the wife title is for time indefinite. Always get the ring girls, Joan told you that . Many times.

If he does not win an Oscar then they should stop giving out the award. And even though he didn't have as many lines as I personally would have liked to have seen or heard, Tom Hanks was Tom Hanks...one of the most talented actors of the past 35-40 years. He always delivers what he is asked + more! Being the consummate professional he is, he demonstrated true class taking the back seat to another actor, but that is what class is...the acknowledgement of supporting the talent, time, & effort his co-star or THE star of this particular film. This movie was so much better than I thought it could be. Just an awesome piece of work that will be talked about for many years!
