You can't be expected to get all the references and a lot of the English people who are reading you for not knowing who Pete Burns was conveniently forget that Dead and Alive were a one hit wonder in the 80's and even the gays had forgotten him until he reappeared on Big Brother with an incredible amount of plastic surgery. There's no reason why anyone outside the UK should know who he was. Speaking as a Pete Burns fan.
I know the US viewers aren't going to get this series very much, but all of us in the UK thought it was so funny, it's really enjoyable seeing references and jokes that we actually understand (there were so many good reality tv/soap opera ones). The drag definitely isn't what we're used to seeing on the US version, but that was honestly to be expected...
I think shes talented just was EXTREMELY nervous. Very much like Jaymes on his season someone who is EXTREMELY talented but was just soooooo nervous couldn't really apply and show their talent.
@@TraiHarder the difference with Jaymes and Gothy is Jaymes was a very experienced Queen. Gothy admitted to being a look Queen with no performance experience. It seemed almost unfair to bring her on knowing that she didn't have Runway experience. Poor thing had never even done a lip sync.

Some have grown from being on the show like Chichi or Shangela and others dont and grow after like Serena. Gothy will be fine she'll make a lot more money and may just come back next season.

I think us brits are getting a bit defensive of the show and the queens because we've been waiting so long for this and were so excited about it finally happening, that when people dont appreciate it or give it chance it stings a bit. Having said that the lip sync was pretty abysmal.

I didn’t feel we were any more critical of these queens than we are of the US queens, but through this lens I understand that our comments could be perceived as harsher or more critical than was intended. We are just as excited about this season as we are any US season. I didn’t think we were making any sweeping judgements about UK drag as a whole, but I’ll definitely keep your comment in mind moving forward. 😘

Depending on how they identify its an opposite sex relationship - hetero relationships are for heterosexuals. Bi/pan people are still bi/ pan regardless of who they are with, in the same way gay/straight people don't become Asexual when they are single. Sexuality is not dependent on your partner or their gender.x

The most noticeable carryover from the US show is the questionable judging decisions. Sum Ting Wong and Blu Hydrangea should have been top 3 and IMHO Blu should have won.
Grainne Grace Sum Ting Wong was in the top 3. Did you even watch the episode?? And Blu deserved to be in the top but not win. Vivienne killed it with the references and the execution.

She wore actual Vivienne Westwood boots which were signature to Pete burns and why would the queen wear heels in hunting gear? She took a risk and it paid off.

The guest walk on at the end should be a permanent position on the show, she actually knows what she's talking about and can articulate it. The brunette presenter, lovely but constantly waited for the blonde ones reaction before she decided what her opinion was them would agree with everything blondie would say. Blondie is great and is great at analysing what's going on and can form good opinions on them. Brunette - tell me what you actually think, I would like to hear your voice, and if it's off-the-wall and totally off-the-mark then it will be funny and that could be your shtick. You would be the hilarious one. Really enjoyed this review.
You need to watch a couple more of these videos. Dixie (the blond one) always does most of the talking, Chan (the brunette) reacts and Alexis (guest walk on) ALWAYS comes on at the end for the "intern minute".
Here we have proof that, as many of us said from day one, Americans would *not* get a British version of the show. This isn't disrespectful to Aunty Chan or Dixie in any way, it is a reflection that British humour & references just don't travel well to other countries.

Nice mocking a bisexual young queen and calling her a "novelty". There has been an 18 year old on drag race tailand so this was definitely mocking the fact she has a girlfriend. Its disgusting and gross to see so many in the fanbase and many queens themselves mock Scaredy Kat for having a girlfriend and being bi.
Honestly, I have a fear that that's what production cast her for - the "novelty" value in comparison to how bog standard and predictable the casting has been for Drag Race in general. And even with Drag Race UK, people have been pointing out how much production still went for queens that have aesthetics comparable to U.S. drag, with most of them being from London alone. Scaredy Kat doesn't deserve to just be someone's novelty casting option, and she doesn't deserve to get picked at for it even on the chance she was.
Redesignated Clockwork I think they were going more for an Adore/Tati mixed with Jynkx thing with Scaredy. Fish out of water, newbie, sweet. The bi thing maybe pushed it over the edge for them, but I don’t think it was high up there.
Yeah I've seen people commenting how "cute of a straight woman to force her boyfriend to do drag" and mistaking Scaredy for a straight man in the Drag Race subreddit. Bi-erasure is truly something both straight and gay people are guilty of.

Once every full moon ( season ) we get a true fashion queen (who possibly wins), such as Raja, Violet, Miss Fame, Naomi Smalls and Aquaria. There have been fashionable queens, such as Raven, Detox, Valentina, Courtney ACT, etc. Hopefully with drag race UK there will be a real fashion queen who slays every runway, not because she’s pretty and looks good, but because she has good knowledge on fashion and how it changes everything who possibly even wins her season or does well. Until then, we’ll get whimsical queens who may or may not be fashionable. - P.S. I understand UK Drag is more focused on comedy than just looks but am I wrong here? There are fashionABLE queens in the UK but I feel that true fashion queen is out there somewhere 🤷🏽♂️ I guess we’ll see
I just think - if you don’t get 90% of the references on the show, why are you reviewing it on your own? I enjoy your videos, and I’m not offended by you not knowing British things, but it’s not super entertaining to watch two people not know stuff, and not be able to learn! Do you know any UK queens who could do the recap with you, and maybe teach you the things you don’t know?

The first season vibes are strong already, hoo. That's not entirely a bad thing though, I'm curious to see where all it will go. Sad that we get yet another season without a non-elimination first episode to give the contestants more time to get on their feet, but, well, at least now Gothy gets to be DRUK's Porkchop I guess. I didn't get a good chunk of the references for the hometown looks, but I can appreciate that it seemed like they mostly committed to them pretty hard, which was good to see.

@@RedesignatedClockwork I did watch Thailand, and sure there were lots of references I didn't get, but I also wasn't rude about the things I didn't get or try to say the way they did things were wrong, because the culture is different and I don't understand what the drag scene there is like.
Calm down. I get that they are making a youtube series and they are just going to have their own opinions, but I don't know if I'm going to find it entertaining if they don't even try to educate themselves on the references before they shoot the video.

The guest walk on at the end should be a permanent position on the show, she actually knows what she's talking about and can articulate it. The brunette presenter, lovely but constantly waited for the blonde ones reaction before she decided what her opinion was them would agree with everything blondie would say. Blondie is great and is great at analysing what's going on and can form good opinions on them. Brunette - tell me what you actually think, I would like to hear your voice, and if it's off-the-wall and totally off-the-mark then it will be funny and that could be your shtick. You would be the hilarious one. Really enjoyed this review.
You need to watch a couple more of these videos. Dixie (the blond one) always does most of the talking, Chan (the brunette) reacts and Alexis (guest walk on) ALWAYS comes on at the end for the "intern minute".

Honestly, I have a fear that that's what production cast her for - the "novelty" value in comparison to how bog standard and predictable the casting has been for Drag Race in general. And even with Drag Race UK, people have been pointing out how much production still went for queens that have aesthetics comparable to U.S. drag, with most of them being from London alone. Scaredy Kat doesn't deserve to just be someone's novelty casting option, and she doesn't deserve to get picked at for it even on the chance she was.
Redesignated Clockwork I think they were going more for an Adore/Tati mixed with Jynkx thing with Scaredy. Fish out of water, newbie, sweet. The bi thing maybe pushed it over the edge for them, but I don’t think it was high up there.

Once every full moon ( season ) we get a true fashion queen (who possibly wins), such as Raja, Violet, Miss Fame, Naomi Smalls and Aquaria. There have been fashionable queens, such as Raven, Detox, Valentina, Courtney ACT, etc. Hopefully with drag race UK there will be a real fashion queen who slays every runway, not because she’s pretty and looks good, but because she has good knowledge on fashion and how it changes everything who possibly even wins her season or does well. Until then, we’ll get whimsical queens who may or may not be fashionable.
- P.S. I understand UK Drag is more focused on comedy than just looks but am I wrong here? There are fashionABLE queens in the UK but I feel that true fashion queen is out there somewhere 🤷🏽♂️ I guess we’ll see

I enjoy your videos, and I’m not offended by you not knowing British things, but it’s not super entertaining to watch two people not know stuff, and not be able to learn! The first season vibes are strong already, hoo. That's not entirely a bad thing though, I'm curious to see where all it will go. Sad that we get yet another season without a non-elimination first episode to give the contestants more time to get on their feet, but, well, at least now Gothy gets to be DRUK's Porkchop I guess.
I didn't get a good chunk of the references for the hometown looks, but I can appreciate that it seemed like they mostly committed to them pretty hard, which was good to see.
