The sequence also had a version where footsteps were dubbed into the entry through turnstiles. It added something even more sinister. Saw this often as a youngster and it scared me shitless

I and a friend, still scare each other by whistling it - and we're in our 60s!

I loved this series, particularly the opening. Used to know one of the sound editors who told me it was filmed in Battersea fun fair before it closed

Journey in the unknown. As soon as I'll get to that loneliest place of no where, and of no returning, I'm never coming back.

Thanks for posting this! I saw this show when I was in second grade back in 1968. The haunting melody and the surreal first-person view of the vacant amusement park always stayed with me. You've filled in another confused memory from my childhood. If you're interested, check out the first few chapters of my book on Amazon. It's called "To The Faithless and The Unbelieving BERTRAM GREY." An Agnostic boy is left to be raised by his Baptist uncle, who tries to save his soul. The boy grows to manhood, and in his search for a God he can neither see nor hear, he discovers the true location on Earth, of the biblical hell. Runner-Up 2014 Southern California Book Festival.
