    100% its a Volvo, made in Sweden. Just because it shares components doesn't made it a Ford underneath. The Commodore Amiga & Sega Mega Drive both shared the same CPU, but they were different systems.

    I like to think that the P3 Volvo V70 I have is a global car. It has a Volvo engine made in an English Ford engine factory, a Japanese Aisin transmission, a load of German Electronic parts and suspension components, and it’s assembled in Sweden. Does it make it a worse car? No. It all seems to work very well and the quality matches or exceed our Lexus in a lot of ways

    I've owned 3 of the old P2 S60s, a Ford Mondeo and now a P3 V70 D5 and I can say without a shadow of doubt that the P3 V70 is 100% Volvo. It feels like a Volvo, it drives like a Volvo, it even smells right. I don't care if it has the same brake calipers as a Ford, the Volvo character is still there. My Mondeo was a lovely car for sure but the Volvo is leagues ahead in terms of comfort, refinement and build quality despite sharing the same platform. I'd also say it's miles ahead of the old P2 S60s I've owned. Just my opinion but there it is.

      I agree. And that's totally true of the modern SPA and CMA Volvos as well. A Jaguar X and Volvo s80 2 feel a lot different from one another though both feel European. Volvo has figured out how to keep their feel regardless of the parent company. A good thing.

    S80 deffo proper Volvo was going to get a v50 then found out ford platform give the v50 a miss dont get me wrong ford focus has good handling... but if volvo purists then needs to be Volvo however the s80 is a good collaboration as the car is solid

    and on my mondeo 2012 i have found parts on the that says volvo. i had before a v70 2009 with d5 and the things i notice is the volvo is more sound isolating and better comfort but hte mondeo drives and handles better and also seems to rust less underneith, but mostly i miss the d5 engine

    My p2 xc70 d5 was a 2005 195,000 miles on it when I sold it.
    My p3 xc70 d5 is 2009 with 187,000 miles and both have the euro 4 engine. Underneath the cars corrosion wise the p2 was by far cleaner P3 drives nicer with the 4c chassis and looks more modern.

    My C30 shares lots with the Focus (parked along side the S80) am glad that it does, mainly for price reasons, and is serviced by my local Ford specialist (as he calls himself). Though the build quality especially interior seems so much better in mine.

  • @shieldaigbencher
    @shieldaigbencher ปีที่แล้ว +2

    We had an S-Max and the interior felt really tired at 100,000 miles whereas my V70 was like new and went on to 178,000 before I retired it.

    Well look at what happens when you NOT to use the components of your parent company & do your own thing, bye bye SAAB.
    I think people forget that the MK IV Mondeo was actually a very highly regarded car in the motoring press, I very nearly went down that route but couldn't find a Titanium X Sport estate in white when I needed it.

    These cars have poorer quality parts (FoMoCo) compared to the previous Volvo P2 gen. For example the coolant tanks will crack. And the plastic T piece coolant hoses will crack and leak coolant everywhere. Other things like wheel bearings need an expensive special tool to replace, vs just 4 bolts to remove on the old P2 cars.
    The P3 is obviously more modern, and probably more spacious, but they are definitely not as good quality engineering.

      I can't stand that. That is just stupid. The SPA Volvos probably have less Geely in them than the P3 Volvos have Ford in them. Geely is a good parent company. Ford was OK but then seemed to lose its way with Volvo, Jaguar and Mazda.

  • @SparklyVenom
    @SparklyVenom ปีที่แล้ว +1

    even though we shit on ford quite a bit, I still appreciate the effort that ford has made with the EUCD platform and yeah, most of the things that tends to break with the P3 Volvos are FoMoCo parts, I still see the P3 Volvo as very reliable and a great vehicle over all, it has not been "ruined" by ford. I own a P3 V70 and I absolutely love it. Is it actually a ford? I actually will have to say no, because even though over half of the parts are not "Volvo" parts, I feel that it's the feel and the other half that counts. The only opinion that matters in your choice of the car is your own.
    Volvo and Ford joint adventure is controversial in the Volvo purist world, but I think it has worked out better for Volvo and the consumers.

    Take your viewpoint regards the common shared Ford platform being a development cost saving. However the previous original, solely Volvo designed and developed models, were in my opinion superior in build quality with more thought given to servicing and maintenance.

    • @Kissamauhau1
      @Kissamauhau1 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree and they arent a little superior, but by alot. Shame they are rapidly getting old and shitty. They never rust too badly if kept well, but my p3 has pretty concerning rust beneath the rocker plastic covers.

    Very interesting. Could you supply any more examples of commonality of components between Ford and Volvo...maybe in a separate video? Incidentally, I also have a Jaguar X-Type which purists deride as it shares 19% of its parts with a Mondeo. They overlook the fact that Ford saved Jaguar from extinction when it was once again on the brink of collapse. They acquired it as part of their Prestige Car Group. Whatever the purists claim, there was little to commend the atrocious British Leyland build quality nor the conditions in the Castle Bromwich plant which a Ford executive described as being worse than anything he had seen in the Soviet Union. The moral of this tale is to judge a situation with open eyes - not blinded by sentiment. Moreover, Volvo continues to go from strength to strength today whereas Jaguar, liberated from the despised Ford ownership, appears to be doomed by its current management which will produce no new models until 2025 after which they will be all electric SUV`sith a price tag to rival Bentley. So much for purity of tradition. Meanwhile, as production of their XE and XF saloon models has ceased, their traditional customers must look elsewhere in the next two years...and where better than a new Volvo?

    Is there a difference between a "P3 Volvo S80" that uses diesel and a Volvo S80 that uses gasoline purchased in North America? In other words, I never know whether when you say "P3 Volvo" you are talking about a car that is similar to the one I am considering buying.

    • @aydenu9057
      @aydenu9057 ปีที่แล้ว

      The P3 name is just the Volvo version of the EUCD platform that was used across their entire lineup. P1 was also a Ford shared platform, and P2 is considered the last “real” Volvo designed platform.

    01:41 Nope the Jaguar XF never was build on this chassis. The XF(X250) is based on the DEW platform, which is logical as the Jaguar XF of course has longitudinal engine mounts. The Xtype with its transversely mounted engines used the Ford CDW27 platform. The only Jag that is related to EUCD, but in heavily modified and updated way was the baby SUV Jaguar E-Pace.

    I just wonder if the chassis/parts/components were as strong/wear resistant/ robust on P3 Volvo cars compared to previous versions older Volvo cars. Example:I had a 1987 Volvo 240…other than rear wheel arches - there was virtually zero rust. My current 2011 P3 XC70 ….. shedload of surface rust underneath on both components and chassis. Not good for a Volvo in my opinion….I’ve probably got max 3-5 years before it goes to the great Volvo gig in the sky.

    My opinion: eucd is pretty good all around platform. Doesnt have cadillac comfort, but pretty good and still handles corners pretty good for the kind of vehicle it is. I had a eucd mondeo and now a p3 and I remember all the suspension bolt sizes by memory because Its so easy to repair that I do it all myself.
    If, or rather when your rear trailing arm bushings go squeaky and you choose oem parts, the right side is the same as in mondeo and its cheper, but the left side is a volvo specific and has exhaust mounting bracket in it.
