everyone's talking about the comedy which is lovely but even more people are talking about their left ears and this is the story of how i realised the reason that my headphones are so uncomfortable is that they're backwards.
A 16 year old knowingly playing a character of a 16 year old -with references to things she's actually interested in (well she joked recently that Buffy is partially why she's gay) is amazing self awareness and such clever comedy! I want to see more 40 year old comedians get over themselves and play characters of 40 year olds 😂
@@Cheesegromit786 bi people refer to themselves as gay all the time. Yeah it's different but at the end of the day we're queer, we have same sex attraction, we have more in common with eachother than with straight people. Gatekeeping the minutiae of labels hurts everyone
I think what I appreciate about you most, especially after hearing you talk about how painful and awkward your adolescence was in your other stand-up bits, is seeing you move thru and not abandon your insecurity onstage. It's pretty incredible and I have so much respect for you because you can do that. I wish I had that kind of courage to embrace that person when I was that age. Thank you for sharing, Mae.
The first line is" What a night eh?" so Canadian. lol! On another note- wow she looks so different. She looks like a human spider. lmao. so awkward I love it. lmao
I've been torturing myself for the past 10 minutes (10 actual minutes, such an eternity) to find something at the same time genuine funny and not creepy to comment, and I really just gave up
i feel like characterwork was not really appreciated by that crowd. they expected you to just make jokes about you...unfortunately you're too good for them :D
i don’t think anyone’s noticed but the guy said the YOUNGEST kid to be nominated, kinda smth to be proud of at the time, but only a few people care now, regarding the hundreds of people who were mindblown at the time
you are one of the funniest comedians I have seen in a long time. You play your soft spoken nerdyness so well. You really make me laugh. Can't believe you were sooo funny at 16.
I don't understand how a 29 year old (me ) has the ability to obsess over someone the same way a teen would. I watched Feel good about 5 days ago, yet here I am trying to find out and absorb as much as I can from all these youtube videos of her previous work. In the odd chance that you read this Mae, you deserve the whole world litte lady!! You are brilliant! ! (And beautiful 😉)
Guys, does anyone have a link to the old performance Mae did where she sings a comedy version of 'You Oughta Know' by Alanis Morisette for her teacher Miss Garrow?? I need it back in my life
I went down a Mae Martin rabbit hole after seeing her for the first time on Netflix.
“Mae” you’re great!
I'm there now
there. rn.
Yup here now lol
Same and it's so so so great!
ditto!
in 2003 the 90s were still not over
Yup
They still aren’t in some parts of Canada
They were, but we didn't admit it yet.
Have you been to Idaho?
I love this
,,it’s not a coincidence that every single gay kid flourishes after high school”
Facts💯💯😜💖
Wow she looked exactly as she described in later shows.
Her voice hasn't changed :)
She did not lie about her childhood
Was not expecting this level of nerd, Mae. You, are an excellent comedian.
everyone's talking about the comedy which is lovely but even more people are talking about their left ears and this is the story of how i realised the reason that my headphones are so uncomfortable is that they're backwards.
I didn’t notice til I saw this cause I always keep one side out oof
And I just realized this was from a year ago
@@skeptical9383 I just put on my left earbud and holy shit why would they do this
@@skeptical9383 I realized this was from a year ago, but I found it funny how history repeats itself
you could tell me this is from the late 80’s and i would believe you
So true.
Then you dont know your pop culture trivia. Those are very 90s references
Even at 16, your timing, delivery, and stage presence were all on point.
and now she's written and starred in an autobiographical netflix series :')
TK her glow up is incredible
I AM SHOOK. I almost didn't believe it was Mae until I heard their voice. Love this.
Took the crowd a second to gauge her energy.
I thought she was a natural blonde lol
RIGHT????
It was obvious she or to be more accurate they wasn't.
@@GemPotagueule you didn't have to burn that hard 😂
@@GemPotagueule okay sorry i couldn't tell 😂😂
Still might be, was this shot in winter, other factors

@@swiftlymurmursif ur not str8, ur gay. If u get a manicure, ya gay.shes shared this. Grow up.
Oh my god. This might just be the most awesome case of a glow-up I've ever encountered.
If you watch until the end you'll see she looks the same she just has glasses on and is making a face
“He has no arms and legs... his names Torso” 😂💀 “we cant walk him we just kinda drag him” 😭😭
dude that was soooooo good what the hell? give this little girl the entire world! i hope she got it
She got it!
my left ear loved this video
I can't believe how good your character work was at the age of 16! So funny. Let's have a Buffy marathon please!

Thank you for sharing, Mae.
Damn the glasses and the way she held her lips completely transformed her
my lefT EAR
"She has really nice hair, which must be hard for her..." 🤣🤣☠☠ Great comedy elements at 16 - you've always kicked ass, Mae! 🎉👏🏽
I just cant believe that this is Mae. Like... where is my favorite corn?
The first line is" What a night eh?" so Canadian. lol!
On another note- wow she looks so different. She looks like a human spider. lmao. so awkward I love it. lmao
As a Buffy stan and a Mae stan, this was perfect
Thanks, Mae, for sharing this time capsule from your earlier years as a comedian.
I've been torturing myself for the past 10 minutes (10 actual minutes, such an eternity) to find something at the same time genuine funny and not creepy to comment, and I really just gave up
I rewrote my comment like 3 times before I gave up because I had like...no proper words to describe how I truly felt😂
It's unbelievable that how much you've transformed.
I completely forgot you were 16 during your piece! so much talent!
My day started off with laughs because of ye! Love the Garth vibes; maybe I can listen to Buffering The Vampire Slayer while working.
Totally reminded me of Dana Carvey!
My left ear enjoyed this very much
I came here for the suede waistcoat!
I love Mae Martin so much.
i feel like characterwork was not really appreciated by that crowd. they expected you to just make jokes about you...unfortunately you're too good for them :D
i absolutely love everything about this
My left ear really loved this.
"His name's Torso" 🤣🤣 the best part. Made me laugh out loud. I love 16 year old Mae.
That is some old school Canadian content. Loved it!
i don’t think anyone’s noticed but the guy said the YOUNGEST kid to be nominated, kinda smth to be proud of at the time, but only a few people care now, regarding the hundreds of people who were mindblown at the time
I would to be coming a comedian because of Mae Martin. ♥️♥️
Thats a taskmaster champion right there 😍
you are one of the funniest comedians I have seen in a long time. You play your soft spoken nerdyness so well. You really make me laugh. Can't believe you were sooo funny at 16.
I though that "never kill a boy on first date" was the one with owen.
This is like finding a clean cut George Carlin on the Ed Sullivan Show
an absolute gem
Love seeing entertainers before stardom 😍 she is just marvellous
As a 17 year old, seeing this and your more recent stand up gives me so. much. hope. !

This is awesome, Mae!
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH
Omg so much buffy I love this prime comedy
Oh this is great, thanks Mae!
Omg this was such a long time ago, wow!
Amazing! I love you Mae Martin!
Cool to see you doing a character!
this bit reminds me of a monologue piece by Checkov called on the "harmfulness of tobacco".... it's class x
2003 looked a lot more like 1993 than i remember! also her accent has changed so much i feel, but wow she already a solid routine at age 16 dayum
2003 looked way less early 90s. It's just this for some reason
Sooo funny and clever, can't believe you were 16 for this hahaha
my left ear loved this :D
The voice hasn't changed
Their jokes are still the same now just way more refined 😂 this is amazing
Thanks for sharing!
Mae won a award the year I was born. Coincidence 😎😎😎😔
Mae is the mouse hiding in the corner of my brain, exept that she doesn't hide behind the mad elephant I leave in the middle of the room.
Oh wow. Please...I need more
You were so awesome there! Fair play- 16 is an incredible age to get out into comedy!
I am obsessed!
AHHGGHGHGGGHHGHGHGGG I LOVE HER EVEN MORE OML
feel good is such a great show!
This is wonderful. I’m so happy I watched this today 🥰
OMG that was adorable
Guys, does anyone have a link to the old performance Mae did where she sings a comedy version of 'You Oughta Know' by Alanis Morisette for her teacher Miss Garrow?? I need it back in my life
Just awesome, more people should know about you ♥
So talented from such a young age. Meanwhile, my talent at 16 was eating huge amounts of pizza and blocks of chocolate.
So freakin' adorable
There isn't a second that you were on screen that I didn't laugh. XD You are amazing!
Incredible.
Make me want to hug her so much. Super cute
Why is this on my feed in 2020
I’m guessing she was introduced to her coke phase after this.
She was like 15 years ahead of her time here. The genius
Omg baby Mae 🥺 I love you
16?! That's crazy! So so so good!
My favourite comedian.
Damn, John Wick really looked different as a teenager
I share her pain regarding Buffy the Vampire Slayer, lol xD
I love it! And I love Buffy! 💌
god i love them
aw my god
She looks so nervous back then
She's playing a character, hence the fake name
I know
Billie Fotheringham that's the character
She's still nervous :)
We’ll done, Mae. 💜
I didn't expect you to be so good at 16, I saw you on Russell Howard's good news before and the bit about Harry Potter fan fiction was so funny lol
Her jokes, are insane. Like the amount of anxiety or thoughts that run through her mind.
Kat was me in high school. I feel so personally attacked right now.
That was great :)
Is she acting or is this the real stuff? Lo that run away in the last
The Torso joke was excellent
Wow, that is courage! You rock!
