I really love to watch you work. Meticulous does not even express all that you do when working on a project. You imporve everything you do and that is always a benefit to the customer you are working with. Their gratitude will last for the many new seasons you have given this project!!! Well done, Brandon, well done!!! Be well, be safe, be Blessed!!!
I really appreciate that Jim. I enjoy doing a good job and being thorough. There is a sense of satisfaction knowing you gave your customer a good product that you would do if it were your own and do it for a fair price.
You went mobile! Cool stuff Brandon! I see you’re getting a lot of Aluminum job! “ is that because, where you’re at in your neck of the woods “ (salty water?) you had a good set up! With your tools! Great! Keep up the great content! And Thanks for sharing! 👌👍
Thanks Rudy! I actually went mobile a while back when I outfitted my enclosed trailer and built those cabinets in the mobile welding rig episodes, but I soon realized it's not overly convenient getting in and out of sites because it's so large. This time of year people are getting their docks back in the water from winter storage so that's the reason for the spike in aluminum. I think this is the direction I'm going to move the business and not do as much job shop work. I love being outside.
Great job Brandon, those joints take a severe beating on boat docks. Always twisting and turning with each wave that comes along. That is a nice looking in and out rolling boat dock and it has to go a great distance out in the water. Stay safe and keep up the great work and videos. Fred.
Thanks for another great video. These typys of repairs can bring more challenges than shop welding, so it's great to see how you deal with the problems and end up with a nice end result that is better and stronger than the original.
This was actually one of the nicer built docks I've seen but it seems to be very common for these to crack. Thankfully they aren't usually too bad to fix
Excellent repair Brandon and I am amazed how many tools you've got close to hand. A fully loaded truck with lots of space. Enjoyed this difficult repair, especially all the bending and cleaning. Thanks a lot for this useful lesson we may build on. Greetz from Holland, Marcel Knippers.
Fantastic field repair work, just what we love to see. How long did the whole onsite repair take & was the generator an inverter generator or just a regular type - Thanks from NZ.
Thank you very much! The generator is a standard generator. I'm not sure on the exact specifics, but my Fronius machines require a machine with a certain harmonic distortion level and this generator was below level so it can safely run all my machines. The job took exactly 4 hours. That was from the minute I backed onto the property to when i had all my tools loaded back into the truck.
Anytime man. I just wanted you to know you got a shoulder to lean on if you need one. We all need one from time to time. There's no shame in it brother.
@@BrandonLund yeah seems about right never goes quick when you want it too. Then to have to shrink it down to make a video so very appreciative that you do these for us.
@kylejans8160 thanks man! You bring up a great point about taking video. It does add quite a bit of time, that is the reason that I wear the gopro, so that it doesn't slow me down. No customer wants to pay for me to mess around taking video and rightfully so if I'm working by the hour. I love these jobs on the water. It's pretty sweet
Thank you so much! This is the cordless grinder I use. I love it. Plus it takes Dewalt batteries also. Battery life is great too. Brushless Grinder amzn.to/3U3SuX5
I generally have an idea of how much the job will cost based on how much time I think it will take me, plus adding any materials needed. When I supply materials, I add 15% to cover my time and fuel to get the items. I let the customer know that I charge X amount of dollars per hour, and I expect it to take me approximately X number of hours to complete. I'm very straight forward with my customers so they never have any surprises when I'm done and the bill is due. If I quoted the job as a flat rate, I generally tend to lean towards the higher side of the price. If your a fast worker and do good work and you don't take 20 smoke breaks a day and a long lunch, it's probably more beneficial to your customer to pay you by the hour.
I want to know which generator to use when I weld on the go I have a Lincoln old Wilder AC.DC welder I have I have a son gold welder 3 and 110 to 220 I just want to know what generator can I use thanks for your videos
I dont have a lot of expereience with generators. When I was searching out what I needed versus the generator I already had, I reached out to Fronus to find out what they reccomended I needed to run their machines. They gave me a number for THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) that the welder can safely run on, then I just had to verify that my generator was below that number, and it was. I think THD referes to how "clean" the power is. I also had to ask them regarding if my generator was large enough to run their 220 amp welder and it was.
Any tips for someone trying to eventually brake out to weld mobile ? I weld in production and do jobs on the side at home for friends n family but always wanted to just be on my own welding. Any advice I would greatly appreciate that kind regards curtis 🎉 great content 👍🏻
The way I did it was I had a full time job and was doing side jobs on nights and weekends. I did this for a couple years as I got my name out there and people started calling me regularly for work. Once my side job matched my full time pay, and I was getting regular calls for work, I ripped off the band aid and made the scarry decision to give my full time job my notice. I was self employed for 15 years before being made an offer to come to work as a project superintendent at a medium sized commercial contractor that I was subcontracting for. They had been bugging me for years to work for them and i couldnt pass up the offer. Owning your own business is very satisfying, but it can be rough if your starting out trying to raise a family. I didn't take a vacation for 15 years because I was always scared of failing so I was always working and not making time for my family. Make balancing your work and family life a priority. I had a hard time with it.
Your very welcome. There isn't much better than being self employed. As I mentioned earlier, be disciplined about making time for yourself and family and you will be very sucessful. I struggled with this. I fell into the trap of many self employed where I worked non stop and got used to living off that money that working 90-100 hours a week generates. I became a slave to my business. Once that happens, it's hard to slow down and take days off. If you maintain a balanced life, you will go very far.
Hahahaha someone has been paying attention lol. To those who don't know, that actually happened. I dropped a welder into the ocean while working on a bridge that spanned New Hampshire into Massachusetts 🙄
Those aluminum docks always seem to break somewhere. In a lake we use to fish in Illinois, the state had a boat dock there that people would fish off of even though it said no fishing from and I think with all the people standing on it at onetime, it was overloaded and it got bent and broken. Not saying people didn't hit it with their boats but.

Was that 100% argon?
Yes sir 👍
Do you leave your argon tank laying flat? And nice work.
Disregard......I just read it is ok to store and use the argon tanks laying flat.

@funrun508 you bet!
How do you manage the breeze blowing away the gas when you’re welding outside?
That was the reason I had to increase the gas pressure.
Can you recommend a AC/DC tig welder? Thank you
Hey John, I don't do a whole lot of TIG, mostly spool gun work. I've heard really good things about primeweld.
How do you like the CT2050 still? Have an opportunity to pick one up but not sure about them yet! Thanks
I actually havent used it for a while. Honestly, the 211p is probably my favore welder for aluminum then a stand alone plasma cutter.
