Too bad for the Mario universe it didn’t stop Bowser, Bowser Jr. and his minions from continuing to be bad guys. Out of universe however that is fortunate as no villain in the Mario universe could replace Bowser as the main and recurring villain in the franchise.
Sometimes, I think of Super Mario Galaxy as the finale of the Mario series. Bowser finally gets one of the most powerful sources of power from a literal star, calls upon an alien tribe of Topmaniacs, conquered dozens of galaxies and planetoids, and turned some power stars into literal black holes. Bowser at the end of the story had literally omnipotent power to rule the entire universe, and as a matter of fact, managed to steal the power of Rosalina's observatory. Bowser would have actually won if it weren't for Mario finding out about Rosalina's home planet. So when I think of one of the most satisfying endings and cinematic games of this generation, I think of Super Mario Galaxy, because this game meshed all the reasons of why the Mario universe was so inconsistent. The placements of Peach's castle and the abilities Bowser obtained. Bowser almost won and had the power of stars to fuel his regime. I just believe that if it weren't for Rosalina giving everyone a second chance, Mario and his friends and almost everyone would've never existed after that supernova. It is such a beautiful ending, and I personally believe that the main series would've been amazing if they ended it off here. Super Mario Galaxy is just such a good way to end the original Mario canon. It is sorta like how Endgame was to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I love this game sooooo much, it's an amazing mario game, my favorite one probably
Still shivers, idk who made this and why... but thank you this really marked my childhood and i will treasure this forever...

I’m not crying, my eyes are just cosplaying as a waterfall!
1:20 can we talking about how epic this scene looks like?

I don’t get the joke
It’s even more sad once you realise those Lumas haven’t even fully grown yet.
My disc for this game has a giant scratch halfway around the bottom of it. It works fine right up until this cutscene, moments before bowser’s little planet explodes, where it fails to read and sends me back to the Wii Home Screen. So while I can easily kick bowser’s ass at this point, I’ve never actually completed the game. And seeing how the Wii is now retired, I can’t exactly just go get a new game.
