Overtone Singing & Deep Voice Chant with Tibetan Monks

  • Nestor Kornblum presents an Overtone Singing Meditation in The Dome, together with Tibetan Lamas from the famous Gaden Shartse Monastery, on their 2014 tour of Spain. The Lamas are chanting a prayer using the One Voice Chord, very similar to the Kargyraa - Deep Voice singing of Tuva, but without making melodies with the overtones. Nestor sings both the Deep Voice and High Overtones, which sound like a flute playing above the voice of the chanters.
Nestor has a an OVERTONE GUIDE BOOK + MP3 available on

As my physical body, mental mind and ego all dissolved into atoms of pure energy, light and sound.... these primal voices filled awareness
I've never before had the experience of 'experiencing without actually existing'. There was no 'me' or 'self'. Just total integration and being with all universal energy.
Something like an individual drop of water landing into an ocean and instantly becoming the entire ocean!

I would never have thought pairing up whistling with deep voice chant ... well done. Excellent cadence with the whistling; not too fast or too slow but like a bird in the wind the tune has flight without flapping wings. What a spiritual accompaniment. Thank you. In a strange, inexplicable sense ... I needed this. Thumbs up. [Edit: my apologies it's not whistling its i believe nasal .. i researched the tuvan throat singing ranges from upper belly to lower lung to upper chest to nasal ... that's why it's not growling it's actually singing. Very impressive. It said so in the description but must've read it too fast and associated "singing" with the priests and not whom I believed was whistling. Makes the accomplishment even more astonishing. I'll be back and forth for this vid ... it's doing a lot for me. thank you. ]

@@HarmonicSounds.official Yes, I corrected my self somewhere ... there are other videos with the American man and his daughter and he is singing there, as well. I know it's not whistling, i just thought it was the first time i saw this video but as it says in EDIT it is not and I did not read the info and corrected myself. TRULY an impressive accomplishment .. .TUVAN throat singing is NOT growling either .. the sound is originating in the lungs , I fancy myself a hobbiest of Tuvan throat singing and I can move the air from lungs to throat to nose but not this well !! Anyone out there interested .. Start with Carlos Pena (see his documentary), he was a blind African-American musician from the 60s who traveled to Mongolia to prefect his art ... he won an award in competition there because that's what happens when you appreciate someone else's accomplishments, especially when they compliment and promote one's own culture. @@HarmonicSounds.official ok, i wikipedied overtone singing and understand this singing is in the vocal tract and larynx while tuvan throat singing is more from the chest but gravitates up and to the lungs (my novice perception but in the video, Mr Happy Tuvan Throat Singing, the singer touches on overtone singing, however, not this high pitched !! Also, Wolfgang Saus provided a visual presentation of the overtone singing in action (worth a look). I believe I was A.I. recommended this channel because of my cross referencing in Tuvan Throat singing ... I now have a more broader sense of what is possible. She didn't push any religion or spiritually when I was a kid (but there was influences.... A brass Buddha on the desk by the phone.... A beautiful copy of the Koran in her library, etc., etc.,...) Because of that, I grew up very open minded. But I sorta pointed to a Pagan/Buddhist philosophy of my own.

I understand what you mean. I used to feel the same way. However, listening to this from a modern context, considering this as ‘music’ and that too listening to it through electronic devices is probably leading us to that experience. The human voice in this incredibly low register has an impact on one’s body and mind, which goes beyond pleasant musicality. If one were to sit in front of those highly accomplished monks in that beautifully reverberating meditation hall, one would feel their chanting and the vibrations on one’s skin. It makes one acutely aware of the present moment. It would drive the focus of your mind from outward to inward. It’s a truly liberating experience.

@@eeshankaushal2357I 100% agree, as someone who has learned this style of subharmonics (not nearly to the mastery of these monks but a fairly intermediate level) I can tell you that even in a non chanting/spiritual context it still can silence a room and make people snap out of whatever just to wonder what the f they just heard

I'm not an expert but I think the whistling is an overtone which is traditional in some forms of throat singing.

Hi, there. Sadly the creepy and sinister aspect was planted in the Human Psyche by horror films like the Exorcist, where it has been used (read: Abused) by Hollywood producers etc. I am the westerner on the right and I'm the one singing the higher, flute-like Overtones, which the Lamas do not learn. In fact, the DEEP VOICE is considered by the Lamas as the Voice of the Vanquisher or Destroyer of Death, rather than anything sinister. And it is used to mask the clarity of the Sacred Texts to make them opaque to the uninitiated

I am sending this to a certain beloved person. Who is learning to sing in this way to tell them , this is how you do it. It's all in the posture and breathing . Breath very deeply and manage to stay in a particular posture and the result requires will be obtained. You are not that far off from this . And anyone here in the video will tell you ,they haven't obtained perfection either. You have to sing using the whole body and take breaths after every 9 seconds . Not easy. Drink plenty water.
