    Hello. I have really enjoyed watching your reviews on the different Genelec speakers. There are not a lot of audiophiles reviewing Genelecs, so I appreciate what you are doing with your channel. In your review of the 6040's, you mentioned their bass performance. Do you think they need a subwoofer? How does the bass performance of the 6040's compare to the 8030 and 7350 combination you reviewed? I look forward to your response. Thanks, Jim

    This is quite brilliant. The visuals get better every day, and this is one of those days where I really DO want to try a set of those speakers with the subwoofer. Connected to my dCS and Naim probably. A former mate used these in their plain aluminium guise and they sounded GREAT! More bass than I expected as well! Such a pity you're quitting, but quite understandable...

    fantastic content; would love to own some Genelec's someday. However the Harbeth 30.2xd are what I'm budgeting for in my smaller room. I've got maggie 1.7i for my primary listening room but the Harbeth sound is just so sweet in terms of mid range and vocal quality. I heard the 30.2 and really want the badly especially for late night low volume listening with a nice glass of Bourbon.

    Honestly these would be cracking good, and such a brilliant solution. For +/- $6000, you get EVERYTHING, and audiophile level design, engineering, and build. The styling is really the only thing I can thing one would objectively have issue with (style to me is a bit.....sort of Chinese blob thermoplastic essence, but I know it all has function). But it's brilliant: no preamp, no amp, no dac, no speaker cables, no 'sort of proper' stands, etc. The only 'fancy' cables needed are from streamer to unit, and maybe the power cables to the speakers. The only thing I think would sort of set people back might be no more tweaking and swapping of gear!!!!!!

    • @13thnotehifireviews7
      @13thnotehifireviews7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Respect your view, thanks for adding. I think the days of speakers all needing to be wood are going and because of new modern spaces. Probably why we see brands making speakers in off tone colours like greys, and greens etc. Also sustainability issues of making wood cases and veneers and not from sustainable sources - another feather in genelecs cap which I didn’t mention is the aluminium is from recycled sources. How many speaker firms will be using the material from your old speakers - people care about that sort of thing nowadays.

  • @318ishonk
    @318ishonk ปีที่แล้ว

    Interesting speaker design and industrial, rough surface finish. But for that money I'd go for the Buchardt A500 or - if you have a bigger roorm - A700. They both go much deeper in the bass and with the wireless hub you have less cables running around and also have dsp sound control with room correction. And you have the option of a cardioid directivity which is not possible with any Genelec speaker.

    • @13thnotehifireviews7
      @13thnotehifireviews7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I tried the passive S400 mk2’s and they are lovely speakers, although having said that I’d sooner have these Genelec’s than the S400 mk2’s and a Naim Supernait 3, which is way more money. Although I haven’t tried the A500’s, I suspect I would be going towards these Genelec’s. Reason?….First the room correction works a bit better than the i150/Buchardt app I have used with the i150 review I did, which is the same in use with the A500 - you get a calibrated mic for more precise calibration over the full range with Genelec GLM. Buchardt use iPhones remember and are set to only correct for bass better as Mads Buchardt told me - see i150 video.
      On cables, the GLM Ethernet cables can be removed once you set up GLM, plus you have power cables on the Buchardt’s anyway so it’s only two cables in normal use with these Genelec’s - power and one digital / analogue cable, which arguably can just be loomed together.
      The sound quality of Genelec is more proven I think too, particularly in a studio sense, and the GLM software has much more in it and it’s clearly been developed much more. Things like full room reports, multipoint calibration etc. I like what the passive radiators do with the S400 mk2’s but when you add rear firing active drivers into a speaker you are creating boundary effects that you are then trying to sort out in less precise room correction software, relative to GLM. So whether cardioid directivity is a good thing is questionable, but correcting after that doesn’t seem to make sense to me. As I say the GLM software corrects for peaks and dips in the response much better than the iPhone Buchardt app for the A500’s / i150. As I understand it, the Buchardt app is based on algorithms in measuring your room at different points which may not be perfect in a final result, whereas GLM is more purist in giving you the results from the listening position and letting you tweak it accordingly with more shelf adjustments too.
      The master tunings look a nice touch for different uses, but you can’t help think room correction needs for more there. In my experience (NAD M33) Dirac is very good for HiFi because it can correct for a perfectly flat response which you can then tailor, but it depends, like I said in the review, how much truck is placed on room correction because not everyone wants or likes it and it often just comes down to the inherent quality of the speakers. A dealer friend I know sets up room correction for customers to regularly just prefer the sound without correction. Looking at the pedigree of Genelec, they would not be one I’d miss a trial of, in a buying decision for active speakers, based on design and materials reputation, build quality, market standing, not based on any of these things which are hugely open to debate and technical discourse.
      Having said that the aluminium construction is I think huge too in getting inert speakers at this size where you don’t want colouration, as I said in the video. Maybe using aluminium with a sealed cabinet and no rear driver, probably makes for a faster speaker than the Buchardt although that’s one for a speaker designer. Cheers.

    @13th Note HiFi Reviews Genelec references the critical listening distance for many of their monitors, the majority of which are stated to be within 2 meters. Are you saying that listening distances can be further than this? Possibly 3m-4m? (I really appreciate your reviews btw).

    • @13thnotehifireviews7

    • @13thnotehifireviews7
      @13thnotehifireviews7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Id hazard a guess bigger driver than normal Genelecs , bigger internal space as a sealed non ported design playing out to creating displacement of the main driver, powerful 150w drivers and a bit more than some Genelecs and the ideal you are not then just getting direct sound of a smaller near field design , if that makes sense to you? Welcome your thoughts.

      @@13thnotehifireviews7 I'm merely a consumer fascinated by the genelec monitors. I have a large space and I'd like very much for them to work ~4m-5m seating distance. I'm primarily a 2 (or 2.1) channel stereo listener, but atmos intrigues me. Thank you for all you do.

      On mobile so not easy to find, but I know Genelec has recommended listening distances for all their monitors on their site. I remember they’re a bit longer than assumed. Some their bigger ones are made to be sitting more than a meter or two away.
