I was indeed an emotional wreck at the end of this one, so apologies for not being able to close out properly. This movie was absolutely amazing and I enjoyed every moment of it. Such beautiful individual characters, outstandingly gorgeous animation, and a family centric story that pulled at my heartstrings.

    Fun Spanish note:
When Mirabel's father finds out Dolores heard them, he says 'miercoles.' Literally, this means... Wednesday. Which might seem a weird thing to randomly say.
But it's a riff on 'mierda,' which means poop. It's like saying 'fudge'.

Encanto hits me hardest in three sections.
First, Surface Pressure. As an older sibling, husband, and the father of two boys, I tend to put my own needs behind those of other people. If I'm in pain, I'll push through it because people need me to be strong and do things. If I'm feeling sad/depressed, I hide it the best that I can because I need to be productive at work to earn money for my family. There are so many times when, like Louisa, I was strong on the outside but crumbling inside. Plus, I'll often feel like time spent on me is time taken away from doing for others so "I'm pretty sure I'm worthless if I can't be of service" hit extra hard.
Next up is Dos Oruguitas. Not for any personal reason. It's just a masterfully performed scene that uses imagery and music to rip your heart out and stomp on it. I wouldn't trust anyone who makes it through that scene and isn't, at best, barely holding back the tears. If a person watches that and their reaction is "meh," I'd back away slowly.
Finally, the doorknob scene. Mirabelle is finally recognized by her family. She's seen for being an amazing young woman regardless of her gift status. As I said, I push myself to do so much for others. Oftentimes, it feels like I'm not appreciated so when people see my efforts and let me know that they appreciate me, it feels great. As Mirabelle walks past her family, my eyes always tear up.

    Some details i noticed:
The madrigals get their gift at age 5 (antonio is 5 during the movie) and Bruno left right after mirabel didnt receive a gift, so since shes 15 now, hes been behind the walls for 10 years.
Julieta and Agostin wear blue and purple tones, so does Luisa Mirabel and Isabela
Felix and Pepa wear yellow orange and red so does Antonio, Dolores and Camilo
Mirabel got little details on her clothes that have the symbols for everyone in the family.
Coffee is very common on latino countries, and children do drink it (mostly with milk but some do drink it pure)

  • @crissiampco
    @crissiampco 2 ปีที่แล้ว +25

Fun Fact: the word "madrigal" is a type of secular acapella singing that became popular in the Renaissance. Each singer sang a different part at the same time but it was all connected through similar sounds and melodies - just like the final section of We Don't Talk About Bruno, where they all sing their parts at the same time. And the family's name is Madrigal.

I love you. this is the best reaction of Encanto I've seen and I love your energy!!! Fun fact... well, not so fun, actually: sad fact, it was not colonizers. Us Colombians have had a history of violence since the birth of our country and our history is full of people killing people bc of political differences. it is very sad how our country, being so magical and beautiful, has so many problems with violence, corruption, poverty, massive forced displacement, etc. Anyways, Thank you so much for such amazing work and you have a new subscriber. I have watched this a thousand times and every time, I sob. Disney and Pixar have been putting out movies about healing the inner parts of yourself that have been hurt and traumatized. In my opinion...their stories all connect to an inner "hurt" on the inside of all of us. Acceptance and healing is the true miracle. That's why in a part of Bruno's vision, you see the grandmother's inner young adult that needs an understanding hug because she went through so much, alone...but when the image turned around, you see it had to start with understanding "Miss Perfection". This was great!!!

I am an older sibling but honestly where Surface Pressure got me was I have disabling medical issues & I'm a mom to a glorious kiddo who just happens to have special needs. When the pandemic hit, I lost the ability to care for myself because I felt like being Mom came first. The first time I saw this movie, I ugly sobbed when Surface Pressure came on. It's exactly how I was feeling on the inside but always struggle to admit. It might sound strange but this movie has been so healing for me ❤

Mirabel is the candle. It was the candle that brought magic and miracle to the house the first time with Abuela .. And in absence of the candle, Mirabel, the human candle fixes it.The front door is her room and the whole house is her room. And The reason Mirabel didn't get a gift is because she is the gift. she is possibly the next Abuela/matriarch of the next generation

    14:14
I’m the eldest of a family of six turned five after my stepdad passed. I was the third parent and constantly trying to be good enough so that my mom and stepdad didn’t need to stress. I was used to it, as I already had most of my childhood taken by divorce and being newly medicated (Autism, ADHD, and depression). Then, when my stepdad passed, the scraps I had were taken by his death.
I was the gold child, much like Isabella. I got the perfect grades, I was social, I was friendly, I was well liked (I hung out with everyone and even won Prom Queen). But when I wasn’t the golden eldest, I was the taxi driver, the maid, and the comforter. I was the anchor, but I was struggling mentally due to being overused, overwhelmed, and over worked. I was burnt out by the time I turned 18, and everything kind of just became a routine (much like Luisa).
I wouldn’t say I regret baring the burden, I regret keeping them secretive. Anytime I’d cry over little things, my family called my overdramatic. I don’t have the heart to explain that it’s just a culmination of stress that I’m too afraid to let out. And tbh, I don’t think any of them would listen anyway.
If you are a child-parent like I was, don’t make the same mistake I did. Talk to someone, I still have the awful habit of restraining my emotions for the sake of others and it’s not healthy. But I’m working on it.
I’m sorry if this bummed anyone out, but just thought I’d give insight on what being the eldest is like for some people 💛

I loved your reaction. You are one of a very few reactionsts that pretty much caught the concept of the entire movie from the very beginning. You actually apologised abuela for being too harsh on her, rather than ostracising her - very much the essence of the entire movie. And don't worry about getting emotional. I've seen the entire movie at least 5 times by now and I've seen a countless amount of reactions and every time it gets me. Actually if I were doing a reaction you'd see a pile of sobbing mess at one point. No other film ever hit me that hard.

I showed this to my little niece and the look on her mum's face when the 'pressure' song came on was incredible. She spent the rest of the night talking about the pressure daughters are put under, I think this film really pulls the bandaid off a bit quick.
A friend actually sat me down and showed me the clip of the song before I'd even heard of the film and I just stared at it slack jawed and trying to react normally to it. I have had three twitches in my eye at once.

I'm not even halfway through your video yet but I had to stop and thank you for your comments about Dolores' power! 🥰😍🥰
As a person on the Autism spectrum, my sensory issues mean that I cannot tune out the noises most people don't even realize they are hearing!
When you hear a car alarm down the street or a siren in the neighbourhood or an aeroplane going by, that gives you an idea of the range of the average human's hearing. BUT most people's brains only notice the alarming or unusual sounds whereas I hear all the commonplace sounds as well 🙉
Especially when you said about the water in the pipes! I live in a colder climate, so all winter, the hot water in the cold pipes and the furnace running and the wind...I often miss what someone in my own living room is saying due to distracting background noises.
I'm planning to get earbuds that control voices, ambient sounds, amd bluetooth all separately so that I can turn up what I WANT to hear and turn down the rest, but I only learned recently that they existed! I knew there were noise cancelling headsets, but headsets drive me nuts (like having your head in a vice) so the earbud kind would be something I can actually use!
Dolores is such a relatable character for me and I am so glad so many people can see that and empathize because it really IS a lot for our brains to process! 🙏💕

When Mirabel was pledging with her hands on the candle to honor the family & community with her gifts, she then wiped her hands on her dress, wiping the magic of the candle on herself. So she became an Embodiment of the candle. When Bruno had his vision of her in front of the house, with all the cracks, she was 5, but the vision showed her as a teen. What the vision depicted, was the house cracking, in reaction to her. Before & at Antonio's party, she gets hurt, & distressed by the micro aggressions (telling her to step aside) & the passive aggression (leaving her out of the picture), & the house begins cracking & falling apart. Then it seems to at least temporarily heal itself. All the cracks through the years that Bruno has been patching up, are a result of the fractures in the family relationships, & the stress & pressure Abuela puts on the younger generations to put up a front at all times. And this includes Mirabel. It's like stress fractures in the house. And when Mirabel loses all hope (temporarily), it all falls apart & the flame goes out completely. Yet the house helps her get to the candle, & not Isabella, or Camilo. When the house is rebuilt, & Mirabel connects the doorknob, the magic is restored & everyone's powers return, without the candle - because she holds the magic. Also she is appointed for Abuela's mantel to pass down to her. She literally & figuratively mends the house & family, & helps hold it all together. Also there are only 2 people in the house who speak directly to Abuelo. And 2 people who speak to the house. And the house helps everyone in it, but it only obeys 2 people. In each of those instances it's Abuela & Mirabel.

  • @WereMike
    @WereMike 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It may not be an original idea, but with the scene of Mirabel bringing the magic back with the doorknob, I suspect she's meant to take over the role of "abuela" to carry on the family keeper of the magic.

You said having super-hearing would be 'annoying'. ... It's... potentially _much_ worse than that. And you noticed how she has to know all the secrets... and that she knew Bruno was there... you're pretty close.:

Random question... is it a trend now to have every nail painted the same color except the ring finger...? I see that style a lot....

It’s a trend that comes and goes. I tend to do something different each time I get them done. Usually I make my middle finger the one with the glitter so it’s extra pretty when I flip people off 🤣🤣

If it is, it's been around a long time. We did it in the 90s.

_Actually..._ it wasn't "dem fuckin' colonizers"... this movie actually deals with a very painful part of Colombian history, where political parties actually sent out bands of raiders to pillage towns populated by their political opponents! So... you know... a Disney movie!
But yeah, I love the theory that Mirabel's gift was always to be the next keeper of the miracle. Cassita only really directly interacts with two characters super actively: Aubuela and Mirabel. Beyond that, she brings out the best in everyone, and is able to connect with them in a way that isn't born of the trauma that created the Cassita. The movie really shows very well how much that trauma shaped how Aubuela led the family and the community, but it is time for the healing to move on and go from... struggling to thriving.

It was most likely other Colombians, not colonizers. There is a long history of Colombiand being forced away from their living areas by opposing sides.

(hugs) It would be weird if you didn't want to cry for at least the last 15 minutes of the movie. As others have said, I would be wary of anyone who watches this movie and doesn't at least get a little misty-eyed. The next time you watch it sans audience (and you will want to), let yourself weep. It weirdly feels great.
I've rewatched this movie a bunch and listened to the soundtrack over and over again. And if nothing else gets me teary, then it's the end song. Right when Abuela is apologizing in song and bringing out Bruno from behind a wall and you get to see the joy on Julieta & Pepa's faces at getting to see their brother again after so many years, it always gets the waterworks going. And then when it's Antonio walking Mirabel to her door at the end of the song.. 🥹😭😭
