    Great idea, I have the TSO in 9 and 40 and just started load development on the 40 and I noticed on my Acme 180 grain bullet my max OAL that I'd like to use barely fit into the magazine. Going to test them soon.

    As someone new to reloading I've just been going by recommended oal in various manuals. Now that I've seen this I'm going to have to give it a try and tweak some of my loads for accuracy. Thanks for the insight

    I cut two slits down the side of a 9mm case and insert a bullet slightly, put it into the barrel and then drop the slide. I think your method is interesting and I’m going to give it a try to see if there is any variance between the two since I’m getting ready to load up a few hundred rounds.

    Thanks! My 380 load was way too long for my PPK. Now I just gotta figure out if I've seated it too deep, and I need to change bullet molds.

    Nice video, I have the same gun. I’ve been reloading only two years and I would always just copy the dimensions of my carry ammo. I recently got a chrono and decided to try and learn more about what I’m doing. My main question is are we trying to get the longest OAL we can for a certain barrel? Does seating the bullet deeper into the case increase velocity, I would guess so. Do you want to achieve the highest velocity you can for better accuracy? Is there a point to finding the maximum OAL ? Does that alone help with accuracy. I could ramble on but baby steps right? Thank you Barry.

      This is just to determine what a barrels max OAL is. The goal isn’t to load to the max but to simply know what it is as you try different OALs. Like I tell a lot of newer reloaders, every gun/barrel is different. Each seem to have their own personality and they all prefer different things. Some guns are more accurate with lighter bullets and some like heavier. The same goes for velocity.

    I noticed you switch your grips to rubber style. I did a AOL check on my TSO 40 using coated 180gr TC Bayou Bullets and came up with 1.159 also. So I'm still test loading at 1.135 any it's working out for me, but CZC recommended I go with 1.120. Again Thanks for the informative videos

      NMhvac Tech Yes, I prefer the rubber grips over all the other grip options.
      I am currently loading my ammo to 1.130.

    Is there an unwanted side affect from loading shorter then the max OAL? for instance if the shadow 2 will plunk test at 1.60, and you load 1.5 just to "be safe" it'll plunk easily and any shadow 2... is this an OK strategy?

    • @LeoDeLeon707
      @LeoDeLeon707  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Determining max OAL is for reference and informational use. It doesn’t mean you have to load to those lengths. I always recommend using established published load data but for example, my max OAL in the vid was 1.160 but I loaded those bullets to 1.130.

    • @Creek_Hunter

      Decreasing OAL by seating the bullet deeper into the case will increase pressure, in turn. When you are using a hot powder, like Titegroup, it becomes dangerous. Just my 0.02, though.

      You shouldn't load to absolute max OAL. The way this video shows, the max OAL is bullet actually engaging the rifling. Zero free bore. If you use this method, back off your max OAl by about 5 thou. You don't want land engagement from chambering. You have to have some free bore or "bullet jump". I like the way he gets the OAL measurement, but in my opinion, he also should have advised backing off a bit to preserve free bore.
