I visited this island in the 70's and most of the small huts were covered in lantana and in a bad state of repair, I saw a few scraps of readable newspaper from the mid 50's in one of the huts.
Thanks for the historical feedback and thanks for showing the respect for its history and to the traditional owners. Bloody well done.

Very interesting video. I haven't been to Peel for over 45 years, but remember it fondly. Such a diversity of environments both marine and terrestrial. The one part of your history of the colony that was missing was that for over a decade in the late 60's and into the late 70's was that the former colony was leased to Churchie (which is why I visited on many occasions while at school) which used it as an outdoor education center for biology, earth science, geography and other retreats. The school cadets also camped on the Island from the bush to the west to the beach at Horseshoe Bay. The school had a permanent caretaker and the buildings that remained were refurbished and the grounds mowed and maintained immaculately. It was always an adventure to go to Peel for a few days embarking on the old ferry from the Cleveland Jetty and disembarking at the South West rocks jetty on the island. Perhaps you could do some homework on this era and compare it to the way your video now presents the colony. I'm disappointed to say that it is not the well maintained site it was in my day.

Work on doing a St Helena Island in the same format. Thank you I’m advance. See if you can do it unguided/independently.

Such an epic area to grow up in. I remember when we were kids and someone had dumped a stack of chook frames and we spotted tiger sharks in that creek.. the swim to the golf course was scary after that..
I actually got to stay at peel in the late 90’s when a mates dad was in charge of a cadet group that went over to tidy up around the colony. Very eerie sleeping in the rangers hut that’s for sure.

This was amazing, thank you for showing this. That old wooden cross you looked at had 2 number markers at the bottom, I wonder if that is the same cross as the sister's image of a cross you showed in old pics, 17 and 13 yo, how sad. On a lighter note...You guys should set up a gaming cam in a tree to view, show and expose the pot thief!! Or wait out of sight and keep watch with the drone!! EPIC 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
