Toyota is struggling to sell their new 2024 model trucks and in todays video... I want to show you exactly why this is happening. For the past several decades Toyota trucks have been the most affordable, reliable and easy to work on trucks that money could buy... But lately Toyota has been missing the mark when it comes to their build quality and reliability. As a huge huge Toyota fan and a previous owner of of the original V8 Tundra, an FJ Cruiser and a few 80 Series Land Cruisers... I was really excited to see what Toyota would do with their new hybrid engines and specifically the updated Tacoma... And unfortunately it has been a huge disaster so far. Now not everything with this new truck is terrible... there are a lot of good things to talk about as well.

I would rather give up a little power and gas mileage for reliability, they should have left the motors alone and just updated the chassis and interior.

I bought a used 2021 Tacoma almost a year ago. My first Toyota. It had 37k miles on it. SO GLAD I went used instead of listening to the salesman and waiting on a 2024 or trying to go with a new Tundra. I’m loving my V6 Tacoma so far.

They could have improved efficiency and gas mileage and kept the reliability. The 3.5 and 4.0 were 15 year old motors. They just decided not to. Turbos can be reliable its the build quality that is disappointing. Could have hybridized the existing motors and tuned them down or went 2.5 electric. Put a heavier transmission. BUMP STOPS.

    • @MrTheKing
      @MrTheKing 4 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

The reason they changed the engine was not because it was old but because of stricter emission regulations. A 2021 V8 Tundra produces 601 grams of greenhouse gas emissions per mile, and a 2024 Tundra produces 459 grams per mile. I agree they should have kept the old V6 and V8 because they were tough but I mean they had a reason they had to change. I’d bet if it weren’t for the changing laws they would still use the old engines

Particularly one that's so oversized and underwhelming. The 4th gen Tacoma grew in size yet the cabin space is worse, ground clearance is worse, the bed design sucks, and it's been plagued with transmission failures, overheating issues, suspension failures, howling differentials, engine failures, electrical issues, etc. Pay more get way less.

    1. They dropped the V6 for basically 1mpg better.
    2. They added an 8 speed auto for 1 mpg better.
    3. They made the gas tank 3 gallons smaller so the range is still the same, negates any improvement because you still have to stop just as often.
    4. Force you to spend 4-8k for a trailer brake controller, which adds so any options it kills payload.
I was excited for this truck and getting back into a manual Tacoma. But for that price Im not going to get rid of my 2500 chevy which I picked up for 45k. Can actually fit in the cab and actually tow.

I call B.S. I have always owned Tundras back since 2005 my current Tundra 2015 I bought new and I'm sitting just over 400,000 Miiles on it...zero issues. I get 19.2 miles per gallon on the highway 16.9 in the city......... Of course the new Tundras have low end torque why because of the turbo any forced air injection engine is going to give you lower end torque however again with any Force injection engine it will not last like a naturally aspirated will you can talk about all the pretty things that Toyota has done to the tundra and Tacoma but if the tranny don't work and the engine don't go it's just a paperweight

My combined is about 12 and I've yet to see more than 16 on the highway. City is closer to 10. The trucks are awesome but how they get worse gas mileage than my 1997 GMC Sierra k2500 with the 5.7 L vortec is still a mystery to me. Although that truck did blow up at 110k miles ....

Toyota seems to be doing what other manufacturers have been doing for years. Instead of setting high standards, Toyota is pacing itself to other manufacturers to do ever so slightly more. Would you take the Ford 2.7 over Toyota’s 3.4? Maybe, but likely not. However, would you consider new Toyota engines to be over engineered like the 5.7? Nope, not even close.

Today, I would not touch a Toyota. They have spent decades resting on their laurels. Curses to Toyota, I want to buy a new one, but that would make me a moron.

I would guess that the price will be higher than the sticker. I wouldn't buy any Toyota this year. 2024, 2025. I would wait and let Toyota sort things out. I would not pay $50,000 for a small pickup that has some serious problems. Buyer Beware.

Most people don't have a life where they can just deal with broken cars, broken transmissions, broken engines, blah blah blah and not get totally screwed at work and home. So you pay +50k for a brand new vehicle and right out of the gates there are all these problems? Why not buy something with cash and work out the bugs on your own time, save $ and tell these manufacturers to go F themselves. Consumers are becoming the testers on these things and people (and their 86 months at 8.9% financing) are lining up to the slaughter.

Who cares about having power and extra gas mileage when the engine blows up. I'd much rather have reliability and peace of mind knowing the truck isn't going to leave me stranded somewhere. Then have the hassle of waiting for the dealer to fix it, try to get a loaner truck. No just give me the old stuff that actually worked and wasn't bricked when a module goes haywire and costs 1k or more to replace.

Toyota JP needs to clean house with everyone at ToyotaUSA. What an embarrassment that once utilitarian, reliable, rugged and overbuilt truck has become. Even with regs the feds have been enforcing, they could’ve continued making a barebones manual, 4x4, N/A 4 cyl truck. Factory rear locker and skids option, and as far as “creature comforts” goes, bluetooth and that’s it.

I wish I knew my mechanic friend (met in 2018) in 2017 when my dad went to trade in his 1995 Tacoma 4x4 manual xcab with manual locks & windows.
I have a 2023 Tacoma TRD OR 4x4 V6 automatic, and from Sam’s Gas to my house I got 25.3mpg and I see highway trips on the display from 21-26 mpg. I usually average 18.3 mpg per tank with my work commute being 4.6 miles one way, so it’s mainly stop and go traffic. Starting 10/1/24 I will be driving 26 miles one way on the freeway so my tank average should go up. It will be interesting to see by how much.

It's easy to say that "Toyota will take care of their customers", such as after an engine fails, because they are doing that now for 2022 and 2023 Tundras. Which are still under warrantee. What happens if I buy a Tundra or Tacoma and drive it 100,000 miles THEN the engine fails because of manufacturing problems? At that point I'd bet that Toyota would not jump to replace engines out of warrantee.
I wish that the Tacoma had the current ergonomics and seating position but the old V-6 with a modern transmission, even a 6 speed, plus the manual transmission option.

"keeps you in the power band all the time"
FALSE!!! it keeps you UNDER the power band all the time! My 8-speed Highlander really makes me want a manual transmission.. the up-shifts are WAY too aggressive. Leaving a stop light, its 1-2-3-2-3-4-3-4-5 all thebtime because it wants to up-shift, and then you are a slug, so you throttle more, which triggers a downshift, then you back off from the reving and acceleration, then it upshifts, andblugs, then downshifts......
And then while cruising, if you want to accelerate, you give it some throttle...... Then some more, and more, then it drops down three gears and launches.
