How can you not love Parker? I don't understand these 10000M races and the strategy. She ran almost a minute faster in the Brian Clay. In the 5K her 3 fastest times this year--indoor and outdoor--we all with one second. But she ran almost 1 minute faster in the Brian Clay Invitational than she did at the Olympic Trials? Why?
NBC wants finals to be run in prime time if at all possible so instead of 9:30 PM in mid-April at the Bryan Clay this was shortly after 6 PM Pacific time in late June with the temperature still in the upper 70s, far from ideal. This result will still raise her world ranking because the points awarded include strength of competition as one factor so a second in the national championship is very valuable. She and Schweitzer are right on the bubble, I believe July 7 is when the final list comes out. Based on what we know right now about the injury status of higher ranked runners it looks like both may be going to Paris.
