    No one I have watched so far has ever shown just how different the Copic markers lay down on the different types of paper. Thank you, this was so helpful. I look forward to the remainder of the five-part series!

    Thank you. I was afraid to get started. PS - a “normal” pack of paper is a “ream” of 500 sheets. If it is a thicker paper (i.e., 100 lb weight) a ream may be 250 sheets.

    Great video, I’ve bought some Copic Classic markers for my myself but thinking to give them to my niece who has some serious health issues. I’m hoping to sit down with her and show her how to use them and help her to relax. She is very good at anime, these pens will be more versatile and allow the colours to burst from the page. They are so different to what she normally uses. Wish me luck!

      That's such a sweet gesture to share your Copics with your niece! ❤️ If she does enjoy drawing anime, they would be perfect for her. They're so luxurious to use, the blends look so seamless with them. I'm sure she will love sharing that time with you. 😊

    FYI - Copics can be used on glossy papers. You can great effects because of the fact that the inks sit on top of the paper. They're great to use on any non-porous surface. I use them on ceramic tiles and glass too.

    • @LeanneLandArt
      @LeanneLandArt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a really cool tip - I never thought to use them on ceramic tiles or glass! 😊

    • @regenabrooks4327
      @regenabrooks4327 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The best part about using them on the tiles is, if you’re not happy with it, the inks can be wiped off pretty much completely with just alcohol. They have to be glazed tiles for that to work. I’ve made magnets and pins with the small tiles that come in sheets. I’ve done the same with dominoes too.

    Hi, I’m pretty old to be venturing into copic markers but I’m very keen to give them a try, I’ve looked at the sets but not a clue which one a beginner would find most useful, I mostly card make, again quite late to that party too😊 so from what I can tell the sketch markers might work well but the choice of colours baffles me. Could you give me a few tips on what colours I’d find useful, either as a set of say 12? Thank you 😊

    • @LeanneLandArt
      @LeanneLandArt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Pam - thank you for watching! I've been thinking about your comment, which is why I didn't reply right away. I think you're never too old to start something new, and it could surprise you! 😊 I only just started drawing a few years ago, and I'm surprised at where it's taken me. And trying new art supplies is always fun! It might be best to take a look at the cards you've already created and see if there's some common colours you use a lot. For me, I used a lot of pastels when I was starting out, and coloured a lot of animals so I found the skin tones pack to be a good starting point. Until I was able to build up my collection I mixed the Copics I had with Spectrum Noir markers my sister had let me borrow. I slowly replaced her markers with new Copics until I had a full set that worked for the colour palette I liked to use. If you're able to get a light + medium shade of a colour you like, or a medium + darker shade of a colour you like you can use that to create some blends to get a 3D look with shadows, and that is the best way to build your colour palette I found. As for a set, I really like the Pale Pastel's set because it comes with a light + medium of 3 colours (blue, purple and yellow). It's a 6-marker pack. And then the skin tones also have 6 shades of brown, which I found good for colouring animals and people. Again though, it would depend on what colours you find you use the most. I would start there. I hope this helps!

    Thank you for this video! Very useful. I used to use worse or better quality of normal copic paper for copics. Recently I've started to use W.H.Smith paper 135gsm which is alright - it behaves a tad different with copics than a copy paper, but it's all about practice. After this video, I've decided to try out Neenah as I draw in manga style and so care greatly about very smooth blending . Hopefully that's the right one x

    • @LeanneLandArt
      @LeanneLandArt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Btw this is hella late into the discovery of this video, but how is staples cardstock more expensive than the solar white? Neenah cardstock is usually between 16-20 dollars, unless you get the premium classic crest. Also ream (250) of staples cardstock should be around the same price of the Neenah cardstock. By definition, wouldn’t canson marker paper be cheaper?

Are you looking to blend paints with your Copics, or would a separate video be helpful about just blending paints in general? What type of paints are you working with, I'm assuming maybe watercolour or gouache? Thanks for the video suggestion! 😊

    • @LeanneLandArt
      @LeanneLandArt  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't used the Georgia Pacific paper, although it would be worth trying. It's more so designed for printing on but it does seem similar to the Staples brand card stock that I use and it works well with the Copics. If you do give it a try, let me know what you think!

    what if you don't have any other paper except watercolor and plain printer paper and can't afford to go out at the moment because of COVID then which one is preferred in the both of these

    • @LeanneLandArt
      @LeanneLandArt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are not great choices 😊 but if I had to choose, I'd pick printer paper. Watercolour paper is meant to be absorbent (to hold water) so it will use more ink from your marker to make an impression. A mixed media or cardstock would be better though.

    Would Strathmore's 400 series sketch paper be ok with Copics?

    • @LeanneLandArt
      @LeanneLandArt  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It seems the sketch paper is primarily for dry media (pencils, charcoal, pastels, etc.). You could try it although I would worry it would absorb too much of the marker ink. The Strathmore Mixed Media paper would be a better option.

    I have a question, can you illustrate on card stock?

    • @LeanneLandArt
      @LeanneLandArt  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can! I’ve used Staples brand cardstock before and it works decently. You just want to make sure the card stock isn’t too absorbent otherwise it will use up a lot of your marker ink. You should be able to easily tell because your colouring will spread outside of the area you colour, especially if you’re colouring up to a fine line. If you find the ink bleeds beyond the line then it may be a bit too absorbent.

      @@LeanneLandArt Thanks for the answer, I'm having some trouble picking between Winsor and Newton and the cardstock. I was wondering which one would be better.

    • @LeanneLandArt
      @LeanneLandArt  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not very familiar with the Winsor & Newton. If it’s a mixed media cardstock then it should be okay to try.

      @@LeanneLandArt It's actually only marker paper

      In that case it should be even better. I haven’t tried their paper but I’ve been using their watercolour paints and they’re a really good quality. If you do give it a try you’ll have to let me know what you think. 😊

    Has anyone tried the Canson Mixed Media sketchbook with Copics? I want to get one once I finish my sketchbook :o

    • @asbestoscider
      @asbestoscider 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rebekah Deer they’re okay, but since it’s mixed media paper they will suck your markers

    • @finchgould6538

      I've read some good things from people using Canson mixed media for their Copics. Mixed media paper may suck your markers dry, but you can refill your Copic marker about ten times with one refill marker. . Many people (established manga artists ,too) use mixed media paper or Bristol paper when using Copics since sketchbooks especially for markers come with their own problems. There's only one way to find out what your preference is and that is to try some different paper yourself. Canson also sells marker paper!

      +Harvey plays msp Unfortunatley regular printer paper will absorb the ink out of your markers pretty quickly, and it makes it harder to get crisp lines. Although I have bought card stock at the dollar store - anything with some weight would be better to try. Perhaps test a few that you find, you could be surprised what works. It doesn’t always have to be the expensive paper - I’m quite happy with the Staples brand generic card stock, it holds up well. Happy crafting! 😊

      +Harvey plays msp I feel anything under 100~ gsm would be too thin to hold the marker ink. Ideally you want something with a bit of weight to help hold the marker ink, and that will allow you to layer the colours to get the blending affect without the paper giving out. Hope this helps!

    You see I am on the other side of the spectrum. I come from a very wealthy family. Buying copics is no big deal. I also have a job and I am only 14. I can buy a set easily with just a few days of work. I thought oh if only I had the best art supplies. I would get better. No... It's from hard work. I am a manga artist so the color isn't even a part of my medium, yet I still thought I should buy them. Anyways hard work gets you to where you need to be. You can be good but be better than that. To anybody who wants to be a good artist, Your not gonna make it. If you really want it you won't let this stop you. If you really want it then You are that slim 98.86% who still won't get there. If YOU REALLY WANT IT AND YOU HAVE LOTS OF MONEY you are like 99% of people who won't make it. But if you are willing to give up everything for art. And you do it day and night you still won't make it! Unbelievable right? It's almost impossible to make it. So if you don't want it but NEED it, then become the best in your school or work area. Become the best in your town, become the best in your county, Become the best in your state, become the best in your country, then the best in your continent, then become the best in the world. Be that 0.002% who actually make it. You must be imaginative, strong-hearted. You must try things that may not work, and you must not let anyone define your limits because of where you come from. Your only limit is your soul. What I say is true - anyone can be the good… but only the fearless can be great.

      It's so true, that hard work and practice practice practice are the only way to get better. The art supplies you use are just a tool to help you achieve the result, but unfortunately they don't make you better. I'm also a firm believer that everyone is an artist and can be an artist. Art is subjective and lots of people like lots of different things. And with social media it's easier to share your art with many others and it's easier to find others who like what you share. ❤️
