    Something I've noticed about the grunting technique is that if there is any boat motor noise whatsoever it will almost always be fruitless to grunt. The sound just gets drowned out and all that happens is you use up air (gotta say this with the experience of diving near boat channels and >90% of the time it holds true). I still grunt anyway but worth noting it doesn't do much if you hear motors whining

    • @olliecraig-primalpursuit
      @olliecraig-primalpursuit  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm thanks mate. I've never had too much success regardless with the grunting anyway. Perhaps i'm scaring them off haha

    • @ToastierHat
      @ToastierHat 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@olliecraig-primalpursuit obviously depends on the species you're trying to attract but seems to me to only really interest fish if you are completely hidden in the reef and being patient. The longer the bottom time the better, hole up somewhere with a good eye on main approach of fish (deeper water usually), and grunt as soon as you're in position, only 2-5 times. Overdoing it just burns air. What the sound simulates is the sound of tail flukes of fish thumping. Problem is it will take a while for the larger predatory fish to move in to investigate and if they're 50m+ away, they'll only be getting close by the time you're getting back to the surface (at least with me anyhow). It can be a pain. Basically a looooong static is the play if grunting.

    New Zealand is amazing, I can’t wait to go and explore it’s underwater sceneries.
    Question about you rocking the speargun sideways - is it supposed to mimic a struggling fish and thus attract big fish to spear ?
