- I have heard a lot of trumpet players attempt this difficult piece of music. However, Chris LaBarbera nails this to perfection. This is the absolute closest to Harry James' version of "Concerto for Trumpet" I have ever heard. Chris is one of America's greatest trumpet players.
Every time I listen to this I marvel at how great Chris is. Every note is there just like Harry did it!!!
I've had a few lessons with Chris, and his teaching is next level!
I don’t know how that could be played any better. Wow!
Chris Labarbera is also available for lessons. I would like to say he’s the best trumpet teacher I have ever had. Everyone should take the chance to study with him.
Where would be the best place to reach out to him? I would love to take a few!

This is one of the best players that no one knows about. I've heard other videos with his enormous range. I think it showed great class not to take that last note up to something ridiculous.
Great playing! Harry would have loved this. And this tune became a "mainstay" of certain concerts by Paul Lavalle's "Cities Service Band of America" 1948-1970s played by great virtuoso, Fernando "Freddy" Pasqualone. Later, I invited fine NYC player, Dick San Filippo to play it with the "Pennsy Pops" in the Philadelphia area on a show series. Dick was my colleague on the "Band of America," Radio City Music Hall Sym Orchestra and a number of other special engagements. Have to say, that THIS piece always brought "down the house!" - and when you see Harry James play it on video, it just comes out effortlessly and really envelopes the listener. Thanks Chuck Par-Due for putting this one up.
Wow! This is what trumpet playing is about! Nuances and tastes are exceptional. Thanks Chris and Chuck!
So freaking good. Can't believe that's live!! Amazing!!
MAGNIFICENT!! WOW!! This is a SPECTACULAR performance!! (Wherever Harry James is right now you can bet he's beaming with pride over this brilliant rendition!!) It's not just the articulation but the TONE!! MAN that tone he gets is HUGE---(that big fat booming tone just like Harry's!!)
This is phenomenal playing. What a monster. This is as close to Harry playing this that I have ever heard. What he does at 2:05 is take this tune to another level. I know Harry would be proud. Thanks for posting.
I agree, this is the only TH-cam version I've heard where the soloist demonstrates anything even close to Harry's technical facility.
Cannot get tired of it..
Ein Artist auf der Trompete - einzigartig !!!
Absolutely awesome rendition of the Master's concerto.
Absolutely amazing!!! I always knew how talented you were...are!!!
excellent c'est clair net et executé avec dextérité
@awreckingball recorded in 1999 at the Century Village retirement complex in West Palm Beach-just talked w Chris last p.m.
Love Chris's playing ....
Beautiful player
I am not sure. I lifted it off the Warburton mouthpiece site. Chris said it was it Ft. Lauderdale, or West Palm or someplace. It is awesome! Chris worshiped Harry James as I do.
If 1:38 to 1:40 does not make you jump out of your seat then you're in a coma! Awesome!
I'm not sure whose chart Chris was using. The chart used to be available by Robbins Music. I have also seen "record copies" floating around on the net. Sorry I don't know.
goosebumps
Chris is a huge Harry james fan, so he tries to be authentic. I love Doc, but he couldn't play this with the same reverance that Chris does.
CHuck , I went to school and played in high school band with Chris... Do you know how to reach him?

Harry played a LG bore Selmer Chris has different equipt & a shallow MPC. Harry used a double cup etc. Bigger sound produced. I personally know Chris. He played in the show I produced down here in Florida about 10 yrs ago in Del Ray Beach. I have the show video & have thoughts of selling it on E-bay.[show name ] . A Tribute to Harry James

I heard Conn 60b
I noticed that ;)
it sounds like a big band arrangement however, and the only arrangement I can dig up on google is a Brass Band Arrangement by Elgar Howarth. I would like to know the publisher and the arranger of this version, please
Is this available on any recordings?
No, sorry
@@ChuckParDue1953 thank you. I was afraid of that since I went looking and could not find it
Can I have Cris LaBarbera's contact information?
I don't have that to give out.
You can go to Trumpetherald in the Donald S. Reinhardt section
which arrangement is this?
Johnson Long
Chuck, I agree but the recording sounds distant, not his fault, but he does not have the quality/timbre of HJ, still my #1.

I say consider the source Michael. This person is not a very nice person!
