Lava is a small hamlet town about 33km away from Kalimpong and is surrounded by pine forests and is often engulfed in mists and clouds. It is situated at an altitude of 2,350 meters. The village hosts a beautiful monastery of Bhutanese origin and a Nature Interpretation Centre. This place is popular amongst nature explorers and is renowned for bird watching. It is also the starting point for treks into the Neora Valley National Park, which abounds with floral and faunal wealth.
The route to Lava is scenic with the change in vegetation from tropical deciduous to the wet alpine trees of fir, pine and birch. The lush forests of Lava are ideal for nature treks, bird watching, and plant and wildlife exploration. The Sherpa View Point here provides an excellent view of the snow-crested mountains of Bhutan and Tibet.

Is there any permit required to drive on kalimpong roads for personal vehicles??
I am actually planning to visit lataguri along with lava lolegaon rishop and darjeeling with my own hatchback....thats why requesting you to provide me details
No permit required. Unless you are entering any restricted zone like Neora Valley National Park. All other places you can visit without any permit.

Or it is not mandatory?
Always b up-to-date with insurance of your car...it's absolutely mandatory....don't even think of driving your car sans insurance @@adityabiswas7382
