Its been a long time since a Hololive clip left me so empty head. Last time I felt this way was on Haachama "peppeloni" clip. And here we have, 3 girls going against their own argument on perpetual loop, on what feels like a 4 hours video.

I think the same. For me, personally, our version of the curry has it. (Philippines' Chicken Curry) Potatoes and Carrots are highly optional. (at least, I think it was.) While I do not prefer and want Onions, I won't deny the fact that they're essential for the dish to taste good.
So yeah, for me, I'd choose Carrots to be removed. I don't eat it anyway. 🤷
I've made curry several times without potatoes or carrots but I ALWAYS have onions. And most of the time garlic too.
Aqua is not great at cooking, so she wasn't sure about many things, but she did think and asked for confirmation that curry is all about onion. But other members just decided to make fun of her. But I guess she was there to be making fun of the minute that she got onion.

Yeah, I don't actually mind carrots, but potatoes and onions are pretty much required in (Japanese) curry. They do a lot of heavy lifting in terms of texture and flavor.
honestly nenechi's argument was kinda weak since potatoes "disappearing" is them thickening and improving the curry itself and beside that they also soak up a ton of curry flavor and are just these delicious starch bombs in the curry. onions are just.. an essential base you need in cooking most dishes lmao. meanwhile carrots are like.. tasty but just obviously the most expendable ingredient compared to the other two that are essential (without a substitution)

The argument its absurd. Like saying what its most important on a Cheeseburger, the cheese the burguer or the bread. That being the challenge. But instead of convincing how bad her ingredient is, Aqua kept praising onions, making her whole argument pointless. If onions are so delicious, put them in the curry, not the other way around. It even made the other girls confused on what they should say.
No you people are the ones not understanding.. The debate is on what to take out from the curry, so when Aqua said don't take onions away, by context of debate it will mean don't take them out from the curry. It would have made more sense to the others if she phrased it better but she only said "don't take it away" at the end so that's how it was interpreted.
Its kinda unbalanced how the best person at debate get the strongest base argument. Subaru practically murder them here with no contest

As a big curry lover, potato in curry is actually one of my favourite dish. Team potato all the way.
I eat Japanese curry and I love it, but it's the heating up type cuz there's not many places that offer Japanese curry here

Yes. I think so too. In the end, what makes curry rice is the curry and all of them just spice.
Potato for texture, carrot for fresh flavor and onion for spiciness.
Aqua could make an argument. For that spiciness, onion make your breath kinda a bit bad. And sometimes you don't want that kind of feeling. For the spiciness, you can add chili powder, pepper, etc as substitute. I know someone who does something like that. Since we can substitute onion, we can conclude onion isnt necessary for curry.

why one would use potato in a curry: they melt because they cause the broth to thicken. take them out and you're left with watery curry sauce unless you use different ingredients or additives like starch (which comes naturally with potatoes). Onion is always the best base ingredient for stewed dishes like curry, because they form the basis of flavor. Carrots on the other hand, are an added ingredient non-essential to the making of curry, so you can confidently leave out carrots. Lots of curry recipes don't include carrots but will almost always have onions. potato gets second place as an expendable ingredient

actually if you really want to take out an ingredient from the curry it would be carrots, its not like i dislike carrots but onion are important its like the base of the dish, its aroma makes it so the dish wont flat out, potatoes are great at absorbing the flavors and if you added too much spices it could make it milder and its starch makes the sauce thicker
I would've said, onion has the least texture, you won't miss it as much as carrot and potato chunks

Man, I hate onions, but you really can't do curry without them. I've found if you chop them up super fine, and cook them just a bit longer to be extra caramelized, you're safe to get the benefits they give the curry without any actual onion flavor to worry about. And choice of meat aside, potato is the number 1 filler also helping thicken it with its starches. The only thing I'd really consider unnecessary would be the carrots, though I enjoy them myself.
I feel like potatoes could be removed the easiest they are just bland starches high in fiber and carbs If you serve it on rice or pasta or hell a couple slices of white bread you almost getting the same nutritional value with minimal Change in flavofr the texture is the only noticable affected area onions might be the hardest to take out cause it's a strong flavor and different recipes call for different types you might want like chives or a sweeter yellow onion or the sharper gamer maid shade of onion But honestly what makes a curry is the well curry part with the right seasoning and a strong base you can mix and match your other ingredients to your own tastes and experiment with it if your base is crap it will ruin a the ingredients you put in it because blending it's crap flavor into everything it coats
Carrot and onion is important in curry so potato should be the answer
