  • This is a video of a couple of days spent at loch Etive on the west of Scotland. i caught thornback rays and a dogfish and spurdog. I only wish i could have caught more. I fished a path by quarry and from the priory. There's a friend Jim catching spurs too.

    Really good video. I am quite new to shore fishing but am lucky enough to live in Dunbeg, by Connel. I got some excellent tips from this video and videos posted by Fishing in The Uk channel. I have been trying both sides of the loch, in many places, to hit on something good. But over the last few weeks it’s been crab, starfish and weeds only. So I thought I would try Ardchattan Priory. So down I went, waited for low tide and thought I am never going to be able to cast that far. The weed bed went out almost as far as I could see. Well needless to say I never got a bit so went back up to the rocks at Dunstaffnage Castle and managed to get a couple of pollock. So still thinking what am I doing wrong I watched the video again. Then I spotted it. I was in totally the wrong place. As it turns out it is far to shallow even at high tide to fish the priory. I saw in the background what you, and Fishing in the Uk, call the priory and realised you were actually fishing at Ardchattan church. The priory, and priory gardens is 2 miles further on. I have been told since then that Ardchattan church is a well known brilliant place to fish. And typically the one place on loch Etive I have not tried yet. So I am off there tomorrow will let you know how I get on.

      I'm glad you enjoyed the videos. I have always known that church as the priory and have seen some good fish caught of there. It is weedy there too but seems to be the case around most of the loch. I have another video up showing me fishing here at the priory with another fisherman getting some good spurs from that spot. hope you catch a few tight lines.

    Hi Michael, fantastic video's. Please advise my sons and me. Where to fish in West Scotland (sea or loch) in oktober? Rays and dogfish, pollac and maybe skate? Can you suggest a location for that time of this year???

    Whatched this video...again! Great stuff. I fished etive on a small boat we hired somewhere on the loch a couple of years back and had a great time. Having no knowledge or sounders/fish finders etc we just winged it. We fished around the fish pens and had a few good fish. Also found red cod in abundance which was great as we dont get many of them in lancashire!!
    I was wondering if you could offer me some advice... i have a camper van (renault master mbw so its transit size) and want to head up there to Etive in mid january after a stay in one of the caobh haven. lodges. I was wondering if you could recomend any possible spots that i can park up, loch side and fish from the van? Ive tried google earth but as ive found out in the past, very small barriers dont show up well hahaha.
    Thankyou and keep up the great videos.

      Hi Keiran, there are a couple of places you can park up a campervan there, the most commonly used spot is by the priory from there you can go onto beach. If you drive along the road passed the priory all the way up to the entrance to the quarry there's plenty space in front of quarry gates to park up. Also over the other side at Taynuilt pier there is a car park you can park up there and it's just a short walk down the pier to fish of that. Hope that helps.

      Robert Gallacher Thanks Rab I was hoping second part would be as busy as first but not so lucky. I'll have to go back soon. As for the nature it's amazing what's out there if you take time to look and be lucky enough to have cam ready.

    Hi we are planning to fish etive in feb and its a good 6 hr drive for us so would like to have a good idea of were the marks are before we set off as we only have fri till sun up there . Is the first mark you fished with the boat in the back ground before or after the quarry . Thanks for any info

    • @michaelbird3226
      @michaelbird3226  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      To answer you're question about area with boat. You head up to quarry then park in parking area, then walk on the road to left reason being you can't park down there. Another spot is the priory (Ardchattan church) a large area to fish here with car parking almost on the beach. You can also fish the front of airport known as the winsock go into North Connel and there is a small car park by the football park there. Another spot is Taynuilt pier the water hammers through here but if you fish of to the side of pier rather than straight out you should be fine. The good thing about going up at that time of year you won't get eaten alive with midges. Baits would be sandeel,squid, bluey,mackie using pulley rigs. Nearest petrol station is in Oban. Check out google maps type in Loch Etive and click on maps will give you and idea of some of the places i mention. The road from A828 to the quarry is single track beware of buses and lorries as well as cars on here there are passing places.

    Great vlog Michael, hope your keeping safe , please could you give me some advice on fishing loch etive , where would be the best place to stay close to where you were fishing in this vlog , and best time of year to stay up there for a weeks fishing , ty for any advice , 🐟🐟🎣🎣👍👍

      Well at that time i was probably camping beside the priory/ church. The last time i was up there before this Covid 19 i actually stayed in the Falls of Lorra hotel it wasn't to badly priced for a basic room. Sad to say i totally blanked 3 days of nothing. It was handy in Connel . I personally would say anytime during the summer but beware of the midges they are viscous sods. You asked on another video about boat that i fished beside. You head up to the quarry and park in the car park then follow the road to the right because you can't park down there. The broad down to boat is on you're right a couple of hundred yards along .

      Glad you enjoyed it Sean. I use skin so soft like the spray but i have to bring it back from the states when i go over. Priory can be a bit iffy at times. Well on sunday past spent 11 hours fishing over there for 1 dogfish caught at the windsock i was also fishing the slip earlier with nothing to show.
