You are a gem to the fish keeping community. I love this hobby and I'm still learning so much more thanks to your channel!
Thankyou for shedding light on this. People around the world still have the idea that aquariums will never be comparable to ponds or rivers or lakes. Which is complete stupidity.
8 months ago I was very skeptical with your methods of fish keeping, however, after watching more of your video's I decided to go for it and give it ago. I had a 20 gallon all set up with live plants and pool filter sand, since then I stopped water changes and added some teak leaves and also leaves from my small pond in the garden. 6 months later , I have a fantastic aquarium with healthy fish , shrimp and a snail or two, the water is Crystal clear with no smell . I top up with water from the pond when needed, fantastic. BTW, it is not dirtied under the pool filter sand but the plants are growing fast and healthy. Thank you FF for teaching us your wisdom.
Me to my mate I have been in to aquascaping all the channels are cleaning and water change every few days because of I thought that was the right thing because they do it I have tried FF way cap all the ceramic soil with sand so my bed is about 3 to 4 inch thick now am off to the local canal today to grab some stuff out of it to make my own free food
Thank you for your wisdom. I did setup a tank for my son a month ago. The guppy ladies where instant pregnant and I did another tank in my office with water plants, some Little fish and shrimp from Lake Constance. Now the guppy babies from a group of 20 live in it. The rest are in the first tank. The deep substrate is amazing. The plant grow like hell and the fish srive . I found another free 10gallon on eBay. And I am about to setup another planted tank for my second son. It’s amazingly easy and wonderful. Love Inaia 💜🙏🕉
Your 'wild' nature is fascinating dear friend, together with your enthusiasm and great heart.... fish everywhere are grateful to have you watching all our backs..... big hug dear soul x
I absolutely love your ideology. I saw your vid ab how people are rude in the comments but to me they're narrow-minded. I've watched 20+videos of yours so far and I've already went and collected sand, leaves with muck and plenty of macro/micro fauna in the same process. So far everything is working out and I plan on building a 50g and purchasing another 10g to do the exact same thing. Which will put me at 12 tanks. I have a very diverse collection and thanks to you father fish it's only gotten better. Thank you so much for your amazing content. You've been in the hobby for far to long to just be "wrong" and I don't understand why people are against these ideas. People, he's giving you real legitimate info here. Try it and you will see, I promise you won't regret it
Thanks for r shipping my order ❤😊
FF got me into keeping fish a month ago. Never liked the plastic tanks, never knew this natural method. Well my tank going well with 6 platies, 5 babies, 4 danio, all happy. Plants growing like billio. Will have to crop out half the plants next month the way they grow. Used potting compost with blood bone meal and topped with sand and dead leaves from pond. Just a note don't bother with any ornaments, i put one in, the platies were terrified of it, so got removed.
You are awesome Father-Fish... we humans all need to hear your wisdom !! Thank you. I love gardening and nature, so... it all makes sense.
Thanks for the plants Father Fish. The fish farm video segment made me see the wild side of "aquarium fish."
I recently bought FF's stem plant pack and was very happy with it. The plants came quick and seems very healthy. (Now I just hope that I can keep them healthy.)
I added you to my recommended channel's video l uploaded yesterday 👍🐠🐟💦
Hello mister father fish you’re right absolutely thank you very much God bless you❤
Great NEW VIDEO Father Fish!!!! My water is wet😊
For the first time in my life, Im learning new things about common species all because of the natural enviroment Ive provided for them.
Cory cats especially. Always had them in gravel....always wondered why theyd make a run for the surface to grab a gulp of air. Now I know. They are sand sifters, who benefit every living thing in their enviroment, causing a cloud of sediment which includes food such as small worms and other things I probably cannot see. That gulp of air they take is instinctual, to clear the gills of any debris. They constantly move the top layers of substrate around. They are amazing animals who are extremely important to anything living in the same areas. Also watch them restung on anubias leaves....Ive never gotten so much enjoyment out of an aquarium.
FF I love your vids, informative, relaxing and well edited!
wonderful video father fish
I love how you broke down those steps great videos you are putting out 👍👍
Yes they are life, great video
I know fish don't really love us, but I swear my pleco likes for me to pet it on the nose. Of course, it would eat me if I fell in the tank and died, though. lol
This is the best video I've seen. I like your fish flying back and forth on the background while listening to your cute voice.
Great motivational video!! Thank you father fish.
Love the energy of your videos! Thank you!
I have nice growing plants in my tank and all of them come from my pond in the backyard… and they never die .
I am excited to begin fishkeeping. I will make sure to have plants and real soil and of course sand I am a little worried about how hard out water is but hopefully it won't be too bad.
father fish breaking alot hearts in this video lol
Thank you, father fish enjoyed your video :-)
Exactly!! That's how I've setup ALL my tanks ! Research the specific fish as much as possible & study their NATURAL environment & food sources. Then I setup the tank as close to that as I can & feed them a diet that's as close to what they would eat in nature.
Bravissimo! Very inspiring! Tempting of making one for my bday in few weeks.....in a small tank to put a few fish in there to check and test the natural tank system......thinking of putting some soil, sand and one or two plants.....no more (for a less then two gallons tank) I believe it should be ok
[thank, you father fish for sharing you're wonderful helpful videos.] 🙏
It's a very interesting way of fishkeeping for sure. I love your videos, even though I am not keeping my tank in this way.
Great video father fish...❤
That Jr Bart tank was my favorite. I have that jar and usually use it to make plum brandy, but I think I'll use it as a fish tank now.
You're the best Father Fish! Happy Friday from your friends in Ireland 🐟🐠🐡
Great vdo and absolutely true...
Excellent, excellent information !
What a wonderful video! Love seeing others tanks done in the natural way. Never too many plants😁
❤☮🐠🦐🪴
Well, maybe if it’s duckweed….there’s always too much of that. 😂
Me encantan los vídeos y los disfruto aún más.
Bendiciones
Thank you for making me help how to make my tanks filter less. I hope to hear from you soon.
Love you from India ❤ . U r very good and simplistic teacher
This man is a true water and fish master.
The microorganisms from my ditch aren't accustomed to the high temperatures of tropical fish, so will that be alright?
This guy is class 👏🏻
Great information, I'll be trying this out and I can see converting my fish room over to this method. Follow along
I caught a wild indian flying barb and i made a planted tank like you said with foodweb and now thanks to you he always comes to my finger whenever I feed him or put my finger in water and now he also got some friend and among them are two crossbreed cicleds which I found in petstore for feeder fish I got them and there thriving
Am a new sub am so glad i got recommended this channel after watching aquascape channels i see how much they show witch is so wrong now having to clean every few days is just wrong thank you FF
Wow great job sir ❤❤❤
I miss your beard, Santa. :) Great video, as usual, BTW.
thanks a lot ff. with our method, i haven't even changed my tank water from the past 6 months and my fish are perfectly healthy. thanks love from india
Great video as always, one problem though. The father fish beard is still missing😢
My fish LOOOVVVEEEEE hanging out in the plants
Hi Father Fish, I wanted to ask where you get the dirt from for the bottom of the tank? Best wishes from Wales 🏴
I love your channel!! Just started my natural fish tank, I’m on day 2. Hoping things calm down in my tank. It’s super cloudy. I took my plants from the lake in my backyard and scooped up some tiny fish from the lake too. I’m so excited. Thank you for your information. It gave me the confidence to do what is natural and right!! 🐠 ❤️
Sponge filter will help clear it.
How did your tank turn out?
@@kingriched15857 it turned out wonderfully. I will post a video soon on my channel and on father fish Facebook page. Thank you for asking. 🐠 ❤️
@fatherFish thank you so much, finally posted a video on my fish tank. Your method has been going strong for almost 3 months now with now stress or issues. Thank you so much for your life’s work and proven method to have a natural running aquarium. Do come by and tell me what you think. I truly appreciate you. The plants that aren’t in the soil are thriving because I’ve grown them that way. Again thank you 🐠 ❤️
8 am your big fan father❤
Thank you Father Fish. I’d love a dummy’s guide to beginner plants.
Father Allah seni korusun .İyiki hayatımızda varsın.
Dünyanın pek çok yerinden bu kadar güzel insanla tanışmak büyük bir mutluluk.
You are so right father fish. Bye for now!
I’ve just found your channel and think it’s brilliant. I certainly want to use some techniques that you discussed here. But I have a question. If water has evaporated from my tank to a level where I think I need to top it up what water would you use?
I use the same water that is in the tank. You might need to add RO if plants are not in abundance./
Do u ever need to use root tabs or liquid fertilizer for your plants?
thanks for all
Thank you for all this info. Do you have a video going in to detail on tank temps? Do you recommend different temps for different critters? Like snails and shrimp? Rasbora and rams? Plants?
No I do not. My temps range from 75 to 85. I keep heaters in most of my tanks. set on 80.
Hola! No se si podra responderme, pero este tipo de ecosistema se podria aplicar para una tortuga acuatica? El agua se mantendria limpia de igual forma colocando arena y plantas?
Could the same technique be applied to an aquatic turtle's aquarium? And share the aquarium with some fish? I would like to know your opinion, thank you very much!
Hello Father Fish, thank you so much for all your videos. I am going to try this method and am so excited to get started. I was wondering if you have to occasionally poke the sand to release gas and if you have to carefully vacuum above the sand?
No to both.
Thank you so very much! @@FatherFish
My aquarium was too much alkaline for my fish so I made a natural CO2 with sugar and bread yeast to my 5ish days old aquarium. In one hour the PH comes to a more natural to the fish in there levels and the solution will keep working for 7~ days or a little more and also will help the plants to grow a little faster.
You are brave (or foolhardy) Either a genius or a twit. Let me know how this proceeds, please.
@@FatherFish a genius unfortunately I know I'm not. Lets hope that I do not cause a total disaster at least. LOL
@@ConsertandoTudo my local water spots are all hard water, pH8, high GH, KH. The GH was off the scale - I stopped testing when I got to GH15 to conserve my testing solution. They have plants. My source water comes out of a local river pH8, KH7, GH10. An aquarium shop in Sydney told me that plants in our hobby will not grow in hard high PH water. He was wrong.
When you set up a new tank-after you add water-BEFORE you add plants-do you put a chemical in the water to remove the chlorine? Also, when you change the 10% water or add water due to evaporation, what chemical do you add to remove the chlorine from the tap water? Thanks
I dont know but my aquarium glass is going green :|
Then why are my fish dying? I've had my tank like this for 4 months now. I could probably use a few more plants though cuz some of mine died. I havent done any water changes, just topped off the water. I've tested the water and theres no nitrites or nitrates in my water. I had 12 cardinal tetras in a 20 gallon tank with a few shrimp and snails. The only thing i can figure out that might have made my fish sick is we had a power outage for a few hours about a week ago. Now im down to 4 fish, 1 looks healthy but the other 3 look sick.

Sir ...please tell me about nauture of molly and swordtail fish and tiger barb fish ?
Will these fish are harm to plants?
And Why Narrow leaves of My Hygrophilla corymbosa plants ?
not typically. Join us at the Father Fish Shoal to discuss these and more concerns. discord.gg/G4fkAE6qNw
How would I do this with Oscar’s and pangasius catfish since they destroy the tanks. What would they eat.
I'm starting to see all of these other fish TH-camrs taking credit from your knowledge
They are learning how to make the aquarium work. That is my goal to change the hobby. I do not need credit for that. I only need to see it happening.
My tank is gross and icky but I never have any bacterial blooms no matter what I put in gets digested unless I throw a bunch of veggies in and my pump is clogged
I'm wondering, what kind of dirt is he talking about? Like something from the river or like dry sand from the side of a mountain will work?
discord.gg/father-fish-shoal
In other videos, you talked about not changing your natural pH for the fish. When itroducing new fish from a box store, for instance, how would you acclimate them to your pH?
Typiically they are in the same water. Test the Ph of the water in the bag. Below 7. may be an issue. If your water is 7. or above ther will be no problems. Set up an acclimation tank foryour new fish. Something small and simple to give them a chance to adjust and make sure they are healthy.
After a week introduce them to your system.
@FatherFish thanks! I had some goldfish when I was a kid and didnt have the internet to help me along. Now with the internet it feels like I'm drowning in information. I've decided I'm just gonna pick a method and run with it, I picked yours 😊.
what's your opinion on just using floating plants? thanks.
There are so many quality floating plants. look for some that g row down into the water.
Father fish, I don't remember the info from your online store. Can you please send it. Love you too!
father-fish-aquarium.myshopify.com/
Have to correct you, my Silvers and Blood Parrot react to me and my wife and are stand-offish to others. Very smart.
My betta and 1 gourami do the same.
Will my plants absorb the ammonia if I only have sand for substrate? My tank is already set up and I didn’t know about the layering
build a food web to enrich the sand bed.
@@FatherFish thank you! I’ll watch your video on how to do that for reference!
Father fish, can the sand cap be thinner than 2 inches if it is a fine grade river sand?
The dirt rises in the sand. 2" protects water column
Hi father fish..
I have something to tell you....
I once had a clay bottom tank for my betta fish....and i used almond leaf to get some tannin...the water just remained clear until the leaf decayed completely...but..before the leaf started to disintegrate...a layer of brown matter covered the clay substrate.....i beleive the tannins were"adsorbed" by clay..
At that time my bare bottom tanks used to stay brown to red for weeks..
My question is...if i use a layer of clay from my nearby water resource and cap it with sand...will the clay still adsorb ammonia or any other toxins??
Yes but it is very slow release and only on the surface of the clay. It is too dense for roots to penetrate.
@@FatherFish ooh....okay..thank youu..
I've got bladder and ramshorn snails in a stagnant tank filled with algae and dirt(no sand)
Doesn't get much easier, nor better!😂
I love watching them snail around
Father fish. I'm having trouble in setting up my tank. I keep trying to add wood, but no matter what I try, the wood always floats to the top. How do I get it to stay where I want it?
collect it from under the water in a creek or pond.
I don't know if your pregnant - but you sure did deliver
I flatly refuse to become pregnant.
Just to be sure, there’s no need for a bubble stone or filter? A lamp maybe? Thank you kindly.
A small filter will move water.. Light is critical for the health of the tank.
@@FatherFish thank you Father Fish for your reply 😊
How long should I keep my lights on for?
depends on the plants and their response.
@@FatherFish I ordered your plant package yesterday. Also do I need to use a water heater?
#FatherFish2024
I have my gold fish in a bare tank more than 20 years now. This fish is completely healthy, beautiful smooth skin, happy and friendly. The tank is absolutely empty of gravel on sand, no plants at all. All the glass wall is perfectly clean , no slime or algae stick on the wall at all, I clean them off with the magnet glass cleaner weekly, I clean my canister filter with tap water every ten days make sure all the waste and slime get out of the sponge and gravel as much as possible. I do water change up to 80% weekly ( as long as the water not go straight out from the tap which have chlorine in it), and I add little bit of salt in the water. The water is always crystal clear, absolutely spotless, sometimes I put a little bit of plant in the tank for them to play around with it or some toys for a few day then I take them out and wash it, make sure it clean of all slime, I feed them twice a day. They never have any disease or illness. And I never use any treatment or medication for them, absolutely healthy. So I can see that the fish can absolutely survive healthier than in their filthy wilderness environment.
Planted aquarium with a thick substrate will require alot less Maintenance and the fish will enjoy the enriched environment moreso than a bare tank
@@Sierra12377I don’t find it hard to maintenance at all with a bare tank, it is much easier than a heavy plant tank or thick substrate aquarium. It’s is less polluted to the water when you clean your bare tank. I do put some plants and toys into my bare tank and the fish do enjoy it, but I take those plants and toys out and wash it when I see it getting a bit filthy. I’m mean like I can see that the fish is much happier and healthier in the very hygienic environment than than they live in a filthy stinky environment. Nature doesn’t mean it has to be filthy, or slimy or muddy. Nature can be clean as well. Clean water is nature, a muddy floor is nature but glass floor is also nature, it smooth and clean doesn’t mean it is not nature.
We are speaking 2 different languages. You are maintaining a sterile environment. I am maintaining a diverse biological environment.
@@FatherFishno sir. It’s not a sterile environment. It is just clean environment. If it’s a sterile environment, the fish cannot survive.
@@FatherFish. Sir, you need not to put things to the extreme, otherwise you never get things right.
When people said “ fish need to be in clean and clear water to stay happy and healthy”. you are thinking of a sterile, detergent chemical water.
When you think of natural biological environment, you misunderstood to the contaminated environment.
You see, if you alway put things to the extreme. Fish cannot survive or stay healthy.
In the uk and most of European union tropical fish are captive bred ! There should be no need to have wild caught fish !. Unless there are new discover species. In which case thy will be bred for the domestic market
You missed the point. Wild is a condition of their nature, not of their status.
Fish got no love 😂
Bugs and fish disease ?
only in a sterile tank overrun by pathogens
@@FatherFish thank you for posting back to me.
Fish that are born and bred in captivity (Discus) hug the glass to be as close as possible to people.
Their instincts are hardwired to know that a big moving object isn't a predator but a food source
only in an aquarium, never on a farm.
