lol being someone who is a total noob with computers, inserting mods into games are usually cake, the real hard part is creating a heavy loadout with no conflicts.
@@Da_cocobong nope, Fallout New Vegas is easy to get mods running on it, i suck at computers but i find it almost as easy as setting up rom hacks to retro console games.
Sorry about the re-upload. Roy Batty found a small error and we felt it was important to fix it. A big thanks to him for being my technical support for these videos :)
UPDATE FOR ANYONE WATCHING THIS IN 2021: 1) "NVSE" has been updated for the first time in a long time, instead now you should be using xNVSE, you can just install it as you would NVSE and tell it it's ok to replace any files. (You'll see why in the next update) 2) The "Unofficial patch NVSE" has been replaced with "Unofficial Patch NVSE Plus" which now requires JIP LN NVSE Plugin, JohnnyGuitarNVSE and xNVSE (This is why you now want xNVSE rather than the old NVSE). 3) You'll notice that a lot of mods on the nexus now state that xNVSE is required, again this is why you will want that instead of NVSE (See (1)). For now that is all I could find regarding this part of the guide, I will either edit this as I go or just post a new comment on the next part of the guide.
@@tylernewcomer6345 however I will say, I recommend Mod organiser 2 instead of vortex. If you really must know I used a guide called “Viva New Vegas” along with these videos to mod properly. I used the former up to the tweaks section and then I used everything from this guide. Of course you should compare and contrast between this and the other b4 installing anything tho.
After completing the series and having never modded before, this was a PHENOMENAL guide. Thank you for taking the time to explain everything in detail. Still easy to follow in 2023. Cheers.
I would advise anyone watching this, now or later, to stick to what Gopher is recommending here. Avoid the temptation to throw a load of mods at New Vegas and hope they stick. Many years back, on Gopher's first New Vegas tutorial series, I watched one episode, learned how to install mods, and thought I knew everything. The end result, some 150 plugins later, was a completely broken game that CTD'd on startup, or froze every couple of minutes. I had to manually uninstall and reinstall hundreds of mods to find the culprit, still got CTDs, and eventually had to reinstall the entire game. If this is your first time modding, Gopher will show you the right way to install mods, and his tutorials are super easy to follow. Don't be me and charge in like an idiot.
Snake Doctor I did that as well and on my dads old laptop which he gave to me😂😂 I got mod hungry and got a lot of mods alchestbreach uses so Jerry Mcghoul Berry, death claw companion, willow and many more sadly the game couldn’t handle it all on that laptop and I couldn’t do the DLCs b/c my game would crash when I loaded into big mtn, Zion, etc but w/ those mods a lot of viruses popped up b/c I didn’t unzip a lot of the files then I got a new laptop and he wanted his old one back then he got a new one and now I have that virus laptop again b/c my laptop was for college. And now I play Sims 3. New Vegas is still on my steam library but I had to scrap the mod manager after it became outdated.
Best advice I could add to this is stick to things that very well-known, accomplished mod authors suggest. Look at recommended modlists to go along with the big ones like Tale of Two Wastelands or New California. Those mod authors tend to include a very tight list of recommended mods, just a handful, and they know the game's engine well enough that they have a good idea of what will play nicely with it and what won't.
The implication that Vortex is the default mod manager to use is a poor one, sorry to say. He knows better. Mod Organizer 2 is indispensable. I currently use over 700 mods, including some 300 ESPs merged down to around 135. I have **no** crashes, **period.** There are a few tricks to this. 1: Using New Vegas Anti Crash, as well as ENBoost or ENB. 2. Using the correct stutter remover, which Tick Fix is not. 3: Using the correct settings with New Vegas Stutter Remover-very important on Windows 10, as it means the difference between the complete stability I enjoy and guaranteed crashes every 5 to 10 minutes. 4: Checking the entire load order in Xedit and vetting, gauging and possibly sniping any incompatibilities you spot between your mods. These are a fact of life, because mod authors do not have the ability or care to ensure what they're providing works perfectly with every single other mod out there. You do this with every new mod you install, too. Again I stress: **No crashes, period.** The game closes when I'm tired of playing, and only then.
My main issue was discovering too late that there was a mod limit up to 140. That’s when I had to go through mod merging which took my days to figure it out. Afterward, I took a break, and after discovering that the Witcher 3 had a mod limit remove mod, I figured that the same could be done to Fallout NV, so I waited, bide my time, and then that day arrived. With the original mod limit “removed”, it’s been extended to 255. So far I have 160 plugins of mods (with some plugins containing 10 mods in one plugin) and is steadily going up strong with no lag, stutter, crash, input delays, long loading, etc.
I like how the serious mods have images that ironically imply that it is a joke mod. Also, I love how carefully you went through everything. The thing that I hate about standard tutorials is the fact that the person doing the tutorial assumes you already know too many things.
Hell Yes! This awesome dude is the only mod tutorial maker I watch. Everyone else throws out terms and stuff, and I have no idea what they mean. I need a tutorial for their tutorial. Gopher`s the MAN!
Thank you for this guide. I recently got a pc and was terrified at how modding is and it seemed really overwhelming, but you're guide was so easy to follow and thorough, I had little to no issues installing everything. Thank you
Buraun I still cry when I think about how much of an abject failure Bethesda is compared to the CHAD Obsidian, imagine if they got as long as Bethesda got to fuck up Skyrim There would be mods for it for a millenia
@@ghostnoodle9721 The thing is, Bethesda is still capable of making amazing games. Fallout 4 was a really good game in a lot of ways, but the story wasn't great. And now their engine is beginning to show its age. I'd love for them to create a brand new engine from the ground up because they could do so much more. Imagine Skyrim on a modern engine where towns can hold hundreds of people instead of the 20 we see occasionally. Or cities that are actual cities. And with a new writing team on board, I can see them making potentially great stories, but they need to see Fallout the way its creators did.
@@ghostnoodle9721 Bethesda does make amazing games. Fallout 3 for example is a Bethesda games that in many different ways is better than New Vegas in my opinion. Fallout 4 wasn't as good story wise, but exploration and combat was at its peak. Fallout 76 is different so I understand the hate that it gets, but it's actually quite fun if you really get into it. If you like classic Fallout story lines however the Wastelanders DLC has done just that by adding new quests involving human NPC's. Fallout 76 also has NCR Ranger Armor for those who care
This is one of the best instructional videos I've ever seen on TH-cam. It takes a daunting process and takes the viewer step-by-step while explaining everything clearly and concisely in a way beginners can understand. Excellent work.
Man, just wanted to say how much I appreciate you doing these. Your first series way back when is what taught me how to install/manage game mods in the first place, and when the massive shift toward Vortex came around I was pulling my hair out. It was so great to find out you made an updated version! Thank you so, so much!
*2020* edition?! I searched and clicked this thinking it was the old one! Holy shit this awesome, usually in the older guides I find - not everything is as it was and I have to do a few work arounds. But this? THIS! *HELL YEAH! Who won the lottery? I did!*
Oh also, would absolutely recommend User Interface Organiser as a "default" mod you install when making a new game. It also massively improves the performance and speed of VATS
I do consider UIO and MCM to both be absolutely essential and did consider putting them in the first video, but I wanted to cover VUI+ and Darnified UI before MCM (because of how it affects installing that mod), so in the end I just figured keep them for part 2, which focuses on the UI.
Gopher you're freaking awesome man. I've been wanting to get back into playing Fallout NV but was kind of put off by the fact that I had forgotten what mods were essential and didn't want to spend days of fixing the game after possibly somehow breaking it haha. Thank you dude, this is so helpful.
For all of us who played FNV 10 years ago on console and now are excited to get into modding it on PC after hearing about Fallout Frontier, thank you for your clear and comprehensive guides!
Recently had the NV bug bite again and wanted to replay an old favorite, but was dreading having to navigate getting all of the old mods working again with nothing to go on but old tutorials for the unsupported Mod Manager on an old operating system... Lo-and-behold Gopher has an updated series with exactly what I've needed! Cheers and thank you for *still* being an absolute beacon for the modding community for so many years, I remember finding your videos way back in the FO3 days when I was in High School! And they've never been anything other than gold standard ever since.
** PLEASE NOTE ** 1) Installing NVSE is now a lot easier. When you get to that point in the video, pause and go here : th-cam.com/video/0prWgeGGnp8/w-d-xo.html 2) The FNV 4GB Patcher requires the VC++ Runtime Redistributable x86. If you don't have it already (and most of you probably will) you can download it here : support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3179560/update-for-visual-c-2013-and-visual-c-redistributable-package ** IMPORTANT ** You NEED the x86 version, not the x64 version. Thanks to one of the patrons (Avrie) for pointing the last point out to me :)
Gopher hey Man, my game won’t start now after following the first two steps of the directions. Can I get a hand as to where exactly I screwed up? I did the patcher thing, and I did NVSE, but now I can’t even load the game because of some weird issues it’s having. What do I do?
Hopefully not having this is what's causing my game to crash. And hopefully now that I've installed it the problem is fixed. Your videos are very easy to follow by the way. Big fan.
@@estianmeyer131 I had that issue, and I got around it by the order as to which the mods were loaded. But I used FOMM for that. Starting afresh with Vortex now.
@@NotoriousMinion I'm having the same problem if you notice in his video at the boot of Unofficial patch nvse he doesn't show that it booted like he did with all the other mods i'm curious now. do I really even need UPNVSE.
Gopher's original "modding New Vegas" series is how I discovered Gopher in the first place; moved on to modding Skyrim as well shortly thereafter. Thanks for all the tips over the years, Gopher! Cheers!
Hey just got done with part 6 wanted to come back and post this. I didn’t know what I was doing. In a few hours I finished nodding to perfection and now I get to enjoy a timeless classic that touches home with me after not playing for years. Thank you so much. Cheers
Four years later this tutorial series is the way to go! Not only does he accurately and descriptively tell you how to install the mods and set everything up, he also recommends some great mods to use. Just read descriptions and check requirements as some of the files in the video are now outdated. USE NVSE 6 NOW!
If we ever get a Fallout 3, Fallout 4, and Skyrim beginner's guide that would be amazing. This is the most in depth and comprehensive video I have ever watched for modding any game. Gopher has always the been the best at these sorts of things and will forever be.
Well.. I'm a veteran, and I don't know that I'm terminally curious, as such. But... FNV is what I consider one of my "comfort games." Like other games in this category, it has a familiar coziness to it, and as you have been told many times, Gopher, you have a calming voice. I'm doing about as well as anyone could be right now, but even so a calming voice and a "comfort game" is a pretty good combination, so cheers. :)
With me it's the opposite, I get so frustrated when I try to load the game and it suddenly starts to ctd while it was working fine before. Or after I reach a certain point in the fame and every time I load into another world space the game CTD's and now I have to go through 250 mods disabling, running the game, enabling, disabling the next mod, etc.
@@knightleagle568 i too know the struggle i've stop playing for almost an year cus i was running with a lot of mods too and trying to find the culprit was a hassle
Great to see this update Gopher! A word to any newcomers who are just getting into to modding. Listen to Gopher's advice and take your time. Gopher does some of the absolute best tutorials for dummies (like me). Also, getting your game stable and less buggy is ESSENTIAL. New Vegas is an absolutely brilliant game but in vanilla version it's less stable that a psychiatric ward and has more bugs than a swamp located in the basement of a haunted house. Stability is king when it comes to this game, afterwards you can get to the good stuff.
Great video Gopher! Don't forget however, that NVTF also does more than fix the stutter problem. It also includes major fixes to cell load stutter and hopefully will improve performance across the board for numerous different elements of the game. Also includes a High FPS fix so you can play at a high FPS without having to worry about havok going all funky.
13:16 I've watched this part 10 times, and I still can't see any so called "stutters"- or any problems at all. Can you give the exact time code and where to look, how to see those "stutters"?
@@DarkN3r0 The problem is there's no specificity, so unless it's obvious to you, you just don't know what's being talked about. It would be fairly trivial to demonstrate to anyone exactly what he means, but he couldn't be bothered. If you look at the edge of a building or something... some stable point as he moves... you'll see that, before, everything was kind of moving in little jumps, like it was being held back and then suddenly leaps forward just a tiny bit, over and over. Afterwards, this doesn't happen. Things move smoothly
I've been a fan for maybe 10 years or so. We've communicated a bit about your inventory mods, but it's been quite a few years since I've played "moddable" games. Now I'm wanting to replay some of my older faves, and this is one of them. I had everything already setup, and when you said "Let's do it", I got so frikkin' excited, like I'm about to start on a whole new adventure. Thanks for keeping up with this stuff Gopher. You're a trooper.
---- PSA For people following this guide ---- First of all this guide is awesome! But if you're like me you always tend to run into little things here and there that don't quite match up with what the guide is doing and encounter problems of your own. I personally ran into a problem at Part 3 of Gophers guide here where I installed the WMIM mod and then went to test the weapons. When I opened the weapons tab on my pip boy and moused over any weapon in my inventory the game would freeze and crash. After a few painstaking hours, I've found out that the mod that is causing these crashes with the pip boy is the Unofficial Patch NVSE mod. If you're following this guide in 2021, you'll notice that the link in this video tells you that the mod no longer exists, it got merged with another mod and is now Unofficial Patch NVSE Plus. In order to install this new mod you also need to install another mod called JohnnyGuitar NVSE. One of these two mods, or a combination of both of them, was causing my game to crash when trying to select weapons. I'm not sure exactly which files are in conflict or what the exact problem is, but I use NMM and for me I had to just not install the Unofficial Patch NVSE mod, or else I'd crash. Just a heads up for anyone who encounters that issue.
thats how i feel playing on PC after suffering thru frame drops and freezes on PS3 and still loving the game enough to beat it for every faction over the years.
Hol up do the 4K Textures make the game run better somehow? Ping me with @Jokroast if you respond so I get a notification. Not unlike my PC, I myself am potato ._.
@@eclipsegst9419 Same. Picked up a gaming laptop after several years without a pc. The game looks and plays amazing compared to ps3. I'm not used to the super fast load times XD
super important tip for folks having trouble using vortex! Go back to the dashboard and make sure to launch the game from the lil NVSE tab not the tab at the top left of the screen. that tripped me up for a bit. you should also click its lil options button and make it primary so it just uses that
if vortex doesnt make a plugins folder in your fnv folder (the folder, where you create the .ini), and doesnt put the mods in this folder, just reinstall vortex, but choose normal installation, with the standard installation path (bad english sry)
I didn't know what the fuck he was talking about originally and I was thinking about not installing the mod but I said why not. I went from like 60 fps to 140.
So, this is my first time ever modding before, and when I downloaded Vortex, it auto downloaded NVSE for me, and also created that folder automatically with the text document. Amazing :')
I started playing this back in the day on my PS3 but the crashes became more frequent the more I played. I can finally play it on PC in 2022 and this was the exact guide I needed to make it an optimal experience.
@@jamessparks1200 So far it's still good. Vortex works 100%. All the mods are also still recently updated. I mainly wanted the ability to sprint only. But the others are also helpful
Right on time!!! Your old series helped me out a couple years ago when I finally got New Vegas. I loved the game and I was happy I finally got all the mods I wanted after 2 days of suffering through the process. I've sinced upgraded to a better PC and have to start from scratch. I was wondering if you'd do a newer version and BAM here I am. Thanks a lot man.
I followed this guide in 2020 and it was so helpful! that pc I was using become unusable recently. so I bought a new pc and I can't wait to go through this modding series with gopher again! honestly, I don't know if I would have had to guts to try modding if it wasn't for this series, and now that I have modded ill never look back! thank you so much, Gopher!!!
Honestly, I think this needs to be redone because many of the mods are outdated and there are better alternatives available now. Although the descriptions help you find what you're looking for, I really appreciate how you organize these videos. It's been almost five years, so maybe we could get a new playlist?
I notice changes in fps beyond 30 I just do not see the stutter he refers too. There have been times when it was obvious but those were major stutters. Gopher may have either extraordinary vision or just be more sensitive to such stutters
@@ironside61 There's a brief pause when he moves side to side, it's not as noticeable when you're watching a video of it because you're not in control when he shifts around but when you're playing the game and in control you'll notice it more.
This was extremely helpful!! I was having such trouble with the Unofficial Patch (UP) NVSE mod because enabling it caused my game to crash every time I would load it. I realized that I was missing a required mod for the UP NVSE, and that was the JohnnyGuitar (JG) NVSE!! After downloading, enabling, and testing the JG NVSE, I enabled the UP NVSE and my game worked! 10/10 tutorial
Brilliant! Was thinking of replaying through this game and knew I was gonna need a refresher course in modding. Years back I used your original NV tutorials, so I figured they may be a bit out of date and decided to search for "New Vegas Modding 2020," only to find this video series. Some modding destiny right there man. Thanks as always Gopher, happy to see you still going strong in your sincere desire to help others grasp their way through all this information that may seem daunting to any beginner.
So I just gotta say big thanks for this series here. My game started randomly crashing super often tonight, and I had heard NV wasn't super stable on PC. Had no idea where to go to fix it, or to even begin modding the game in general. This kind of a guide is super easy to follow along with and is much appreciated.
Just wanted to add that if you have a controller connected to your computer, than the command console will not appear (unlike Skyrim and FO4). You must disconnect the controller, doesn't matter whether the game is launched or not, and then hit the tilde key. Hope this helps if anyone else was struggling like I was. Thanks Gopher.
@@MemeMachine-po9zo but to be honest, I was actually serious. I don’t know half of the computer stuff they say it’s easy but clearly not. I tried hundreds of times. And still can’t get anywhere with it.

Its funny that a person on TH-cam can explain things better than most teachers I've meet can in the business of well... teaching I've been insulting and disrespectful to all teachers for saying this apparently sorry to the good teachers that matter
@Maximiliano Fauda Cariddi well said, I’m working towards being a teacher, and have been a teacher assistant for 4 years, it’s a whole lot of work staying ahead of students attitude, connecting with them in meaningful ways, keeping your lessons engaging and meaningful to both you and the students... it’s a massive juggling act and everyone assumes it’s no big deal to get up in front of a bunch of adolescents who couldn’t be bothered, but it is at the best of times by far the most rewarding work I’ve taken part in.

Hey, just some updated information from someone who's very late to New Vegas modding, Vortex now notifies you when you you choose to manage New Vegas, giving you an option to install the Script Extender right away. Just thought this information might be useful for future reference.
For some reason, every time i start modding a game (Fallout NV or Skyrim), i always, always end up on TH-cam watching your videos. Your videos don't assume we know, and this is rare. On top of everything, the way you speak allows me to understand much better. I really suck at listening when it comes to english. The reason i ended up here this time was because of LODGen. Not really about how it works. But more about what it is. I can't find this information: patcher or injector, or both. Since i am certain i will fail top use it correctly, it is about trying to figure out if i need it in the first place. I hope to find a video of yours on this topic, because i have struggled for 3 days for naught at this point.
3 years later and I still come back to these videos if not to refresh my memory on the process of downloading mods it is to download these easy to install basic mods and fixes to start my own mod pack well done Gopher well done indeed
The Script Extender (NVSE) posted its an old version, so you got to download the xNVSE 6.0 If Anyone is having problems once you got to install Unofficial patch, It has a newer version. The link Gopher posted has another link taking you to the "new" Unofficial patch THAT REQUIRES : -JohnnyGuitar NVSE -The Mod Configuration Menu (MCM)
I've been trying to get this game to run without crashing for months. This may be the culprit, thanks. I want to restore the game files to default so I can start patching it on a clean slate. So I can just delete all my mods on Vortex and verify the game files through Steam, right? Or just uninstall and re install again?

Hey, I have a problem with 15:30 or the NVTF part of the video. Using Vortex and downloaded the mod. However checking my NVSE folder I don't have a Plugins folder. My plugins are being downloaded somewhere else, which I think is the reason for none of my mods working. I can't figure out how to solve this or simply how to choose a Plugins folder within Vortex. Vortex has the mod(s) in a staging folder in a separate location to FNV, however Vortex is failing to deploy the mods. To fix this, go into Vortex, then Vortex settings, then the Mods tab and here you will see both where the staging folder is and the deployment method used. change the deployment method to "move deployment" and this should fix the problem.

Simple little differences I use. > I use winrar instead of 7zip. > You should definitely start with mo2, learning it now will make things much easier for later on. Mo2 also doesn't directly install files to the install directory which is preferred. Whenever I am researching bugs in my game, I see instances where people complain about modding being difficult with Vortex. Use mo2. In doing so, you'll ensure you always have that mod right where you want it in case it gets hidden or deleted from the Nexus, which happens more than you'd expect. I keep mods that need to be dropped into the installation location in a separate folder, like ENB's or NVSE. Gopher, after having installed the version of NVSE that you use in this video, is it easy to upgrade the NVSE to the latest version xNVSE? because a lot of mods require xNVSE or newer than the one used in this video. I assume that if I were to upgrade NVSE to a later version, it wont be the best idea to do it halfway into a playthrough. would a new game be recommended after overwriting NVSE with xNVSE? would it be possible for you to make a video on how to upgrade NVSE to a later version, or if you have a video that addresses this would you be able to link it with me. Thanks!

UPDATE FOR ANYONE WATCHING THIS IN 2021:
1) "NVSE" has been updated for the first time in a long time, instead now you should be using xNVSE, you can just install it as you would NVSE and tell it it's ok to replace any files. (You'll see why in the next update)
2) The "Unofficial patch NVSE" has been replaced with "Unofficial Patch NVSE Plus" which now requires JIP LN NVSE Plugin, JohnnyGuitarNVSE and xNVSE (This is why you now want xNVSE rather than the old NVSE).
3) You'll notice that a lot of mods on the nexus now state that xNVSE is required, again this is why you will want that instead of NVSE (See (1)).
For now that is all I could find regarding this part of the guide, I will either edit this as I go or just post a new comment on the next part of the guide.
I am very new to modding. Do i download xnvse in the same place? What do i click on on the nvse page?
@@tylernewcomer6345 however I will say, I recommend Mod organiser 2 instead of vortex. If you really must know I used a guide called “Viva New Vegas” along with these videos to mod properly. @@KipperTD almost 2024... last time I modded was in 2014
After completing the series and having never modded before, this was a PHENOMENAL guide.
I did the exact same thing. Luckily I only had around 20 or so mods
Might wanna add this in the description:

Buraun I still cry when I think about how much of an abject failure Bethesda is compared to the CHAD Obsidian, imagine if they got as long as Bethesda got to fuck up Skyrim
There would be mods for it for a millenia
@@ghostnoodle9721 The thing is, Bethesda is still capable of making amazing games. Fallout 4 was a really good game in a lot of ways, but the story wasn't great.
And now their engine is beginning to show its age. I'd love for them to create a brand new engine from the ground up because they could do so much more. Imagine Skyrim on a modern engine where towns can hold hundreds of people instead of the 20 we see occasionally. Or cities that are actual cities.
And with a new writing team on board, I can see them making potentially great stories, but they need to see Fallout the way its creators did.
Yooo facts , I’m even about to Buy a pc just so I can mod it since I only played it on console😂
They should let obsidian do the fallout games from now on, they just have it!!!

@@GophersVids I can do all this with nexus mod manager instead of vortex, right?
A "default" modslist would quickly become too long if you asked me. Like NVTF and OneTweak.

Also includes a High FPS fix so you can play at a high FPS without having to worry about havok going all funky.
havok?

I had everything already setup, and when you said "Let's do it", I got so frikkin' excited, like I'm about to start on a whole new adventure. Thanks for keeping up with this stuff Gopher. You're a trooper.
---- PSA For people following this guide ----
First of all this guide is awesome!
I missed these tutorials, they got me into modding in the first place ❤

super important tip for folks having trouble using vortex!
Go back to the dashboard and make sure to launch the game from the lil NVSE tab not the tab at the top left of the screen. that tripped me up for a bit. you should also click its lil options button and make it primary so it just uses that

The Script Extender (NVSE) posted its an old version, so you got to download the xNVSE 6.0
If Anyone is having problems once you got to install Unofficial patch, It has a newer version.
The link Gopher posted has another link taking you to the "new" Unofficial patch THAT REQUIRES :
-JohnnyGuitar NVSE
-The Mod Configuration Menu (MCM)
I've been trying to get this game to run without crashing for months. This may be the culprit, thanks. I want to restore the game files to default so I can start patching it on a clean slate. So I can just delete all my mods on Vortex and verify the game files through Steam, right? Or just uninstall and re install again?
@@banginbadger75 uninstall and reinstall its the easy way to start from 0 without having to uninstall 1 by 1, and you can be sure that theres not gonna be a problem, but if by any reason the game download it's slow, you can uninstall the mods so you don't have to wait.
thanks man you really helped me out

Thank you so much for this!
I was your typical player who had no idea what he was doing. Went on Nexus, googled what do to, threw a bunch of mods in the Vortex blender, and hoped for the best. (Spoiler: it wasn't the best)
I was so excited by the endless possibilities that I didn't do the work needed to have a solid foundation to build from. Thank you for your patience, good humor, and wit in helping us tackle this step by step. Our I in SPECIAL may be a bit low, but you haven't given up on us yet. Cheers!
The essential beguinners guide for modding Fallout NV. Great Work.
Thank you for updating this! So useful.
Sometimes i feel smart, and then i try to mod a game....
Gopher's tutorial voice is so soothing
How I love this channel. I did not had much free time to play games, so modding was forgotten at all for the time being. And right now when i have some time to mod, I immediately remember Gopher and his amazing skyrim tutorial, which showed me new world of gaming. Then i check his channel for FNV and bam new 2020 tutorial, first i thought what an amazing fellow. Second i start watching tutorial and i hear him, his soothing voice, that glamouring accent, detailed descriptions, then the world and its problems dissapears, I am relaxed and drowned in gaming world, feeling ten years younger.
i used to watch your videos all the time back in the day! i got the urge to go back and see if you did any updated videos and let me just say this is the only thing that made me happy today so thank you! i hope you never quit :)
Finally, I can play this game without getting a sore head and actually being able to progress through the main story without a game-ending glitch... which is what happened to me the first time I got the game.
FYI, a lot of glitches and such can be bypassed using console commands without needing to install a specific mod to fix specific thing.
NVSE config is already a folder in the latest version you dont need to make a new one or make the ini file!
Remember for the 4gb patcher, you need to install VC++ Runtime Redistributable x86
When i try to launch the 4gb patch in the Fnv folder, pc wont run it
@@javi.review The patch will not run with the x86 version or the x64 version of VC++ Runtime Redistributable?
I started watching this series because I needed a refresher, ended up following the whole series to a T.
Really well done and worth the time, everything was running smoothly.
Thank you Gopher
Thank you so much for uploading this series, it's hard to find good information on these games as it pertains to Vortex. This made my life a lot easier on my journey towards a stable modded playthrough of Fallout 3.
515k views from 2020? This game is still going strong!
Very detailed and easy to follow. helped me fix my micro stutter. Thank you!

man, after watching this whole series, honestly, you got a sub man this was amazingly well made
About a year ago I tried following a video to start modding NV and I completely messed it up and got confused. With this video I finally got it, its so smooth now! Thank you for the easy to follow video my man, now its time to do my 10th playthrough with mods.
Thx in advance
@@ZootZootTesla I actually did this since I had the same problem, but I cant select my NVSE folder because it is a game directory folder under control of steam. Not really sure what to do.

ReInstall Your Plugins And IT Should Work.
Much appreciated for this guide. Just dived into New Vegas again and for the first time on PC (previously on PS3) and knew immediately I would want some mods, both just to pretty up the game and just general QoL improvements. This was a sensational guide, really helped me get the basics down as well as a sense of where everything goes. Looking on Nexus I was seeing so many mods that listed "requires this mod" first to work and now I think I have a great jumping off point to work with. Cheers for the work you put into this, very nicely presented and easy to follow.
Can't believe I missed this when it came out. This brings me back to Windows 7 and my pre high school days. Fantastic stuff, Gopher
After installing the Unofficial Patch NVSE, it crashes before reaching the main menu. I use Mod Organizer 2.
I'm having the exact same problem
@Venom Plays I will try that.
I dont get a plugins folder in my NVSE folder after downloading the tick fix.
If you have vortex, the plugins folder will be in the vortex mods/ falloutnv folder
Mike do you copy them from there into the nvse folder?
@@alexs7860 no I left them were they are
@@Mike-ff9ji but the mods still work?
@@droberts4791 They do for me, I didnt create the nvse where he says to make it and I didnt add the ini either, both does things are created once you install the mods through vortex, it does it all by itself, in fact it made two different folders, 1 nvse for plugins and ini on the vortex mods folder and another nvse in the game installation folder, no idea why it would make 2 but hey it works for me, this might be different for some yall.
having an issue already. followed everything from video 1 & 2, then went to check the ui download had changed the ui and it had not i tried both the darnified option and vanilla plus. I have noticed that vortex is showing the mods as active in the mods menu but when you click on the plugins menu no mods just the main game folders. On the plugins menu i hit the "Deploy now" button and nothing is happening. any help?? not sure if its a mod staging issue??
The same thing is happening to me.
Reinstalled for the first time since 2018. I'm so glad you're still a big part of this community!
Help! None of the patches/mods can be seen in the FNV game files/ NVSE....The mods are installed and enabled through vortex but when i check there is absolutely no change to anything and no additional files.... What do I do???????
This saved my night I was pulling out hairs trying to mod this game, most games mods are drag and drop and a few steps here and there...
every guide i looked at seemed long as hell and this 20 min video doesn't even seem 20 mins long
I truly tip my Dusty gamblers hat to you good sir

@@Ben-ym6qz No idea sorry

i was so fucking confused when i was trying to get mods but this helps and also makes me more confused
But what is the New Vegas Script Extender? Asking to bolster the comments. Thank you so much Gopher for making these video guides. You helped me years ago when I first stepped into the world of mods, and once again as I install Fallout NV, I'm going over the first steps in the video, feeling safe under your guidance. Thank you. Happy holidays, take good care of yourself! Greetings from Hungary.
Ok, I know this is well over a year ago, but I have to thank Gopher. I religiously followed his guide on the original Skyrim and his first series on FNV. More than anyone he taught me how to mod. Thank you for then, and thank you for now Gopher my friend.

problem 1: my 7 zip doesnt look like that. 2:when i download the 4gb patch it doesnt show up like that on my desktop.
Dang! I dont know what i would of done without these helpful Mod Videos! Thank you so much for making these kinds of videos! I really enjoy watching them!
Use mo2. Save yourself some stress.
> NVSE has been moved to github, you will be redirected. Just find the '.7z' file and download that one.
> Don't forget the 'src' or 'data' folder included in the archives. Those are typically important and shouldn't be skipped. Since you skipped it, you needed to manually create the 'nvse_config.ini'. That's already included.
> I recommend downloading all your mods manually and placing the archive'd files into folders with the mod's name. In doing so, you'll ensure you always have that mod right where you want it in case it gets hidden or deleted from the Nexus, which happens more than you'd expect. I keep mods that need to be dropped into the installation location in a separate folder, like ENB's or NVSE.
This also helps you stay organized and may be useful in the future if you've edited some of your mods and wish to save those edited versions for reinstalling rather than reinstalling the standard ones.
> Unofficial Patch NVSE has been replaced by Unofficial Patch NVSE Plus. That link will be dead.
> Nexusmods free accounts cap you to 2mbps. So downloading large mods (500mb+) should be done with a download manager like IDM to avoid corruption.
> I'm not even sure how load order is handled with Vortex, but it is very important. DO NOT install quest or gameplay mods without knowing what load order is. If you do, do not get attached to the character you've started. I'm not sure why he left it out, but seeing how this video has double the watchers than part 2, it's definitely something that shouldn't be left out.
i have done everything he says corect and now every time i try to opem the guns menu on pip boy it crashes
Thanks!
