Im no expert but considering the knock outs on box appear to be blown out and peeled back. They do not look pushed in or blown in meaning, to me, there was an explosion from inside that box not outside.
@Driftwannabe 10 i work construction for a living. I see safety videos almost bi monthly that show cause and effect of various accidents. Its the same principle as someone breaking a window from inside the house and glass landing outside on the ground, explosive; vs someone breaking the same window from outside and the glass landing inside on the carpet, implosive force; that is not exact science but helps relate the idea across more simply. So if the explosion happened outside that box those knock outs should be “inside on the carpet” not “outside on the grass”.

The mine explosion was reported to have happened after the power was turned on to the water pumps in the mine if the power circuit ran through this electrical junction box One of the circuit breaker contacts flashed over on start-up, which is normal. This has a good chance of being the ignition source for the gas explosion?
