      ***** It seems to me that that 20lb sack of potatoes are to be found between your ears. You also have an extremely high opinion of yourself that only you & your reflection you keep looking at in the mirror agree on.
      You've been playing since '65? I've been playing since '62 and I watched your video were you played Because/Michelle in '97. I have to say, you had balls to upload such a terrible rendition. Okay I know you hadn't been playing long and for such a short period since beginning it was pretty good but to consider it good enough to publicise, you've got rocks in your head, (along with the potatoes).
      In conclusion, you are right, you have your opinion 10s of thousands of fans have theirs.
      We all know the value of yours.

      ***** " At least I post my name"
      Posting your name means shit when you have bugger all on your profile. You've seen mine and you know more about me than anyone knows about you.
      The video I posted was where I was raising money for men's cancer and I included my grandchildren in on it as well, to teach them about community. What have you taught anyone, that you love yourself?
      All that means is that you are are a narcissistic prig, fixated on your youth. That's what I get from the website that you put up about yourself.
      You are a has been that just couldn't make it, so you relive the 'glory' put on you, when you were young, sucking on it like a leech, and more than likely teaching music students how good you once were, just to impress them.
      My handle here is 'kanakaken' my name is Ken. I got my handle from living with & working for the people of Papua New Guinea for two years and learning their language in the process.
      I played in 5 different bands over the years, including a concert band, using a 6 & 12 string guitar. Unlike you, I don't need to get my jollies about how good I might be, I just do it. I don't need to tell people that I do good and have done good for the community, I just did it & do it.
      What have you done for community? Told everyone how terrific you are and how terrible someone else is, who you can't even come within a gnats nut of with you pathetic talent.
      YOU are the one who is unsuccessfully trying to show how bloody wonderful you are, not I.
      You match your talent, pathetic.
      Just go back under the rock from whence you came.

    Tommy manages gracefully and enthusiastically to do the impossible. No, not those amazing riffs and runs. What's impossible is how he is able to do those amazing riffs and runs and still maintain the musicality of whatever he's playing. When you can pull off those genius light speed improvisations and variations and make it an addition and not a distraction to the soul of the tune, you have really accomplished something and this man, this gift to us all, does it every single time. Just amazing. Thank you Tommy. You've certainly made my life richer.

    Honestly, why all the speculation about Clapton? It's not about who is the best guitarist of all time, who has better technique or who is more known. Tommy here shows exactly what music is all about: having fun. Its never a competition, its a thrill. When I play with other musicians I don't try to prove I'm better, I enjoy the perfect connection and understanding you only get during intercourse. Only ones who experienced it know what I'm talking about. The brilliant thing is, anyone can experience it. So don't get down when you compare yourself to Tommy, because were all unique and we all bring our own twist into the equation.

      DJ Shuffle exactly well said, my sentiments exactly..although I had an argument with this guy on you tube the other day who say's you're no good if you look at the fretboard...so Tommy is no good??

    • @HarmonicaMustang
      @HarmonicaMustang 9 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      tyson1ize Ah... that is a different kind of magic. When you play on an instrument, there are 2 types of playing. The first is what I like to call a 'session' type of playing. This is where you concentrate on what you play and try to play it perfectly; you concentrate on technique, finger positioning and rhythm. Its most commonly used during recording sessions where its important to have the best takes for the best mix. The second type of playing is magical. Its like stepping over an invisible line and you don't really notice it. One moment you're concentrating on your part, then suddenly you just feel a surge of confidence; you close your eyes and let your fingers lead the way. Its difficult to explain. The best way I can describe it is you no longer pay attention to how you play it, you let your soul envelop the instrument and play it. Suddenly there are no wars in the world, everyone lives in peace and happiness saturates the air. Your music penetrates you to your core and fills you. So in order to shut the reality out, you no longer pay attention to your fretboard and close your eyes. That's what every musician longs to achieve and experience. After all its like smoking a pipe; its not about the nicotine or how cool you look, but its about the experience.

    • @tyson1ize
      @tyson1ize 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes but a musician can still achieve that 'and' glance where ever he or she likes it's about freedom, the freedom to look at the fretboard if you want and not get hung up on some misnomer about where a good guitar player should or should not look, for one, it's limiting and contrary to what the magic is about, look at all the great's they have this freedom, and they all at sometime glance at what they're doing for what ever reason, and really, it's nobodies business where they're looking, Tommy looks at the fretboard regularly when playing live and does not mean that he is not a brilliant guitar player or entertainer..
      also the magic as you described doesn't happen 'because' a player doesn't look at the fretboard it happens through freedom...I have those moments when I'm playing ..at times ...not many, lol but they do happen both live and in my studio and if I stopped to think oh shit I'm looking at the fretboard the magic is lost

    That arrangement is just SICK. I used to be a TE skeptic too but no more - and I apologize to the universe. Just TRY to play the parts with the McCartney perfect 8th note bass line and the syncopated melody on top -and accompaniment - it's impossible. This is as difficult as any piece in the classical repertoire but a helluva a lot more fun!! Great respect TE.

    I keep returning to this video, not just for the high, but to try and figure out how he can sound like an entire band just by himself. The rhythm, the bass, the melody line, the strumming, the drumming, the back up riffs, chords delivered coherently in perfect timing with such clarity and flourish. That on an acoustic guitar with no fancy remote gadget hook ups or back ups. Tommy Emmanuel cannot be human...he's fooling us. He's a visitor from some Planet of beings way superior to us humans.

      He's clearly got more chops and talent than I have in a small part of my fingernail and plays the acoustic cleaner than maybe anyone. Yet his music just leaves me cold, I'm utterly uninvolved in it. To me it is - to be blunt - just him showing off, not communicating via the instrument. Whereas someone like Kent Nishimura, I can't turn him off, the musicality is foremost, the technique is not rammed down your throat.
