Too much explaining and re-explaining. Way too much of people sitting in a room TELLING you their fears instead of expressing it through actions. It treats it's audience as too dumb to pick up on small details, so they feel the need to constantly, CONSTANTLY remind them that Aang's biggest fear of becoming the Avatar is that he'll do a bad job, being away from his friends. Getting lonely. They feel this need, this urge, to tell the audience again, and again, and again. It's also incredibly boring and slow. Beautifully filmed though.
@@kdusel1991 The actors are great, but given bad dialogue, and in general, awful material. The animated version is more subtle in many ways. The Bending in the Netflix adaptation is also very well executed, I agree :) Shyamalan's "Bending" was not good. God, that was SLOOOOOO-

You know how with M. Night Shyamalan's film most people's main gripes was how it got all of the surface details wrong? The names were mispronounced, the casting was really bad, the choreography didnt match up with their appropriate bending, the artstyle looked too dissimilar, and it got firebending all wrong? In contrast, Netflix's adaptation corrected all of that. It actually looks and feels like ATLA... but thats it. It's as if the showrunners figured that those previously mentioned problems were all that was wrong with Shyamalan's and not the other glaring flaws like the writing, acting, and pacing of the story. The Netflix adaptation continued to have those issues as well, particularly when it came to exposition dumps and important sub plots being rushed and not fleshed out
Mainly my issues with the live action version is they tried to do what ALL of season 1 did in 8 episodes, 12 episodes probably wouldve been better and instead of pushing Azula and her gang into the show in the beginning maybe the shouldve appeared maybe in the last episode but still have a big role? I dont know I just think they shouldve taken more time to explain everything and also use the animals a bit more, I get its hard to animate them but the animals really added something to Avatar. Appa, Momo even the penguins in episode one. I think that the next 2 seasons need to have a longer run time and if they need more time to film it then so be it because this is a big investment and you cant have fans be mad or dissapointed
My biggest takeaway from this show is that Netflix didn’t want to make an Avatar show. They wanted to make a “Game of Thrones” style historical political family drama about the Fire Nation royal family, and then they did the gaang storylines out of obligation while dumbing everything down for people who watch shows in windows mode.
8:28 oooh HOLD i was on board until you said that one. The only well done animated live action adaptation that enhances the original is Cinderella 2015. Season 2 could completely turn itself around and be great. But nothing will ever make up for the terrible season 1. At best, we would have a great adaptation of seasons 2 and 3. I also really dont like the casting of Azula, Mai, or Ty Lee. Or Zuko's scar makeup.
They should have tried for a more “fun” telling like some live-action movies based on cartoons tried to do i.e Popeye, Speed Racer, The Flintstones (even though those movies aren’t that great). Shymalan was the wrong director for the live action movie and only did it because “his kids liked it”.
