I just picked up a Sire V7 4-string. The first thing you notice: The quality: From how it was shipped to me, to the great case it comes in, the attention to detail in the fit and finish, great hardware... then you get into playing it. All I had to do, literally, was put the batteries in it (18volt) and check tuning (it was spot on). Well worth the one month wait. I'm delighted in every way - he's got his name on it, and it certainly lives up to my expectations and then some.
Daamm right I will be getting one of these basses real soon.. Marcus has revolutionized bass playing the sound of a bass and bass relationship to the composition of music. I love that tone.
a lot of great young bass players out there and rising on the scene doing some cool stuff but its great to still have marcus around making sure the fancy slapping is still musical.
I know it! He is lookin' good for his age. I read in a interview that he takes care of himself physically. It's so sad how many musicians get fat and unhealthy while they are out on the road. ;__;
+ Seth Johnson, no it's not crazy my young brother that he is 56, soon to be 57. When you black man and black woman take care of your self correctly, then you will maintain your youth for many years beyond the age you are now. You will be in your late 40's and early and mid 50's before you can say I am 50. Just keep living. Time go's very fast. 12 months in a year is nothing.

This is the 60s position V7 right? The sound system must be amazing because it's just as deep and throaty as a 70s pickup bass. Though of course, there is that amazing, once-in-a-lifetime bassist playing it.
Been looking for a good review of the Sire bass. This is surely the best review of all, that could make me buy this bass. I still prefer his sound with the fender though...
Those Sire basses sure sound a lot better than fenders! Fender needs to stop counting on their history and start building great instruments once again.
Raging Reuniclus For sure ! Actual Fender are crappy, modern players, black top, special series and all signature models are just marketing. What about the prices for a custom shop ? A question : why do so many players change parts from their JB ? pick-up, bridge, tuners or pots ? I play second hands Musicman Stingray, I get them both for less than a custom shop...and I don't need to change anything on !!! By the way Marcus played a fretless Stingray last month in Brussels !!!!! Fantastic concert !
Don't forget the Sire V3. It's just a monster of a bass at an even better price. Mahogany body really sounds better to me. Much warmer and a better alternative for my style. I'm never gonna be Marcus. I'm just li'l old me. So play that V3 too before spending the bigger dollar. The V3 is a killer bass. It has tone for days! I love mine.
question. I have the same bass and I was wondering where my settings on the bass and amp need to be to get that same tone as I hear on this vid as well as others? Is he running through a compressor or some kind of other pedal?
I am very interested in getting a Sire V7 5 string. I do not do much slapping and play primarily finger style. Any one know how much the 5 string weighs? I have used DR strings for years and recently tried a set of Dunlop Stainless Steel strings on my Stingray 5 HH and they are excellent.
Not exactly, You can put a Sire MM neck on a Fender body but you can not put a Fender neck on a Sire body. The Sire pocket is a little rounder on the edges.
I challenge Dunlop and Marcus Miller to play something using my technique..this challenge is and will be issued to all of those who create nothing of their own (playing the bass) yet have recognition for being "groundbreaking technicians"
Nah I seriously doubt it he's probably endorsing the sire since he is at the Namm convention he still plays his fender, I just saw him in concert last month and he had the sire up there and played it in a few songs but his signature jazz bass was the primary instrument
I don't like his new 'tone' at all!!! It just sounds like a Miller clone. Too much compression as well!! The bass has no depth and those strings sound awful as well!! Plus he is playing through an Aguliar which is not a funk amp. Miller's tone is very complex to achieve, with preamps and his pickups as well on his Fender bass. Plus the amps he used in the past like SWR and EBS. I love Miller's music and playing, but his tone is so special!!
Craig Sinclair To each their own, but i disagree strongly. I think it sounds decent for a 500$ bass. And as for the tone; a player can't change the tone just by playing the instrument, you know that right? o.O
I have Jazz Bass made in Indonesia and can get the Marcus Miller tone easy as. Depends how good a player you are I guess. I still would not buy that bass.
It has no resale value. If it sells for 500 how much can it sell for used?300?.No thanks I'd rather save up some dough and buy me an American made bass.
+Tom Parks What's difficult is mastering the technique that enables Marcus to do that. Hammer-on's with his left hand, double slapping/plucking and tapping with his right. To my mind credit for this innovation began with Victor Wooten several years ago. It's the blessings of musicians like Marcus and Victor who lift the instrument off the sheet music. Leaders in musical expression.
And that they the history of the bass changes!!
Amazing. One of the greatest musicians of all time.
...the master of slap phrasing :-) Love how he and Victor continue to do all these great grooves on 4-string basses.
Yes! Not a thumb player myself. But I do enjoy the skill sets they both have. Have your read Victors book? Its a trip!

Thank you. Good review.
Hello there...planning to buy a sire v7 for myself...did you buy the bass directly from a sire dealer?
Is it as heavy as everyone says?
Marcus Miller is my favourite musician.... not only a genius on the bass, a great composer too.
love his last two albums, and especially m^2
You can literally dance to just his solo playing..... THE GROOVE KING!!!!!
God of Bass
The very best.
Marcus M
3:58 the guy on the right... he feels the bass!
+Sinan Sarı: LOL. Excellent bass face.
He grooves so well. Something many TH-cam bass players miss when cramming every technique known to man in a 3 min video.
@Al Bundy I guess each to their own. And also the licks that a bunch of these guys get come from pros.
Marcus is the king!!
Recently started using Dunlop Super Brights. They sound great. Very nice feel and insane sustain.
One of the bass masters Marcus Miller.
Daamm right I will be getting one of these basses real soon.. Marcus has revolutionized bass playing the sound of a bass and bass relationship to the composition of music. I love that tone.
The tone! 😍
a lot of great young bass players out there and rising on the scene doing some cool stuff but its great to still have marcus around making sure the fancy slapping is still musical.
Yeah I agree. However Marcus has something that the youngins don't.....well two things. The hat, and experience.
Al Bundy his slap is more musical than machine gun slapping ppl do nowadays
Great
The descending run of triplets at 3:16 is most impressive. Extremely difficult for most to pull that off so fluidly.
If I gave him my mexican Fender jazz he would still make it sound like his own 70's jazz bass. His sound is in his hands
Marcus Miller rocks & swings. His fingers strum the strings and it's marvellous!!
as always Mr Miller sounding so fresh your new bass is off the hook I'm going to buy to of them
groove king
its crazy how he is 56. he looks like he could be in his 30s!
o
it's da power of a black hat
I know it! He is lookin' good for his age. I read in a interview that he takes care of himself physically. It's so sad how many musicians get fat and unhealthy while they are out on the road. ;__;

Amazing, as always. And the quote of We Will Rock You. Another Miller-mark. If you dig in his solos and fills you´ll find some fun melody-quotes.

Ugh! I'm so upset I missed him! I didn't know he was at the Dunlop booth!
He's a Beast of a Player!
Sounds great and for that price is a winner Sire Marcus I go for it!!!
So cool...love his music.
amazing
Love
I love his "stank face". He's got a good one, when i all can do is move my chin when i play lol
I play this sire v7 bass model....really great,great sound !
Better than sadowsky basses !
Lots of great bass players out there, but few who can carry the Whole Funk like King Marcus.
The song is Detroit for anyone wondering
" Legendary Bass Sounds ".......!
Song is "Detroit" if anyone's interested
Yeahhh...
¡¡¡ VIVALAMÚSICA !!!
That song doe!
Penn Jillette just locking in with the groove at 0:27 lol.
Clean slap!
0:28 = Serious bass appreciation face in the background.
My new sire V7 Marcus Miller Ash Vintage ST is coming 01-15-2017 😁 thanks MM

MM - old school rules...
that's how it's done. practice makes perfect I guess. I not there yet. One day....
Keep at it. One day man!
Ништяк! :)
Marcus Miller is the sheez nit on the bass. Is that the Sire Bass he's playing ?
Andre Harrington it sure is buddy
As soon as Marcus starts thumping everyone gets the " what's that smell" look. :P
Kai B better known as the “stank face”
How can I buy the Dunlop strings of Marcus Miller in Santiago, Chile?.
I get mine from bassstringsonline.com I think they can do international shipping. Check with them.
comprar um desses no natal
Mr..Miller, my brother in bass! Lol
question. I have the same bass and I was wondering where my settings on the bass and amp need to be to get that same tone as I hear on this vid as well as others? Is he running through a compressor or some kind of other pedal?
a comp for sure
Agreed. sound is compressed. He really sounds good. He is not over compressed. TH-cam is :)
+dezziwood555 They're really nice but heavy.
10.8 lbs. I have the v7 5 string natural.
Thanks. Not a light weight. But.....I have played worse!
Robert Glenn San Socie Natural finishes tend to be made from Northern Ash, which is a heavy wood.
anyone knows the name of the song he played around 0:15 ? sounds wicked
i’m 7 years late, but it’s detroit.
Alguém sabe o nome dessa música??
Was he using sire ?
could someone tell me what brand of bass is that? PRS? FENDER??
Sire Guitars --- Marcus´s new signature lowend bass ;)
Miloš Chovanec I would call it a low cost bass, not low end because it is amazing for the price
What was the song he was playing at the beginning? I've heard that somewhere, I just can't put my finger on it.
It's all the same song. "Detroit"
marcus if you read this will you be using a sire at any time in concert?
I don't think so
I got a response from him and he said he may implement using one into the set.i kind of figured that because promotion leads to more sales
Oh, so that's why GC is giving away DR strings lol
Does he ever play this bass on stage actually or just on promotion events?
is the neck pocket the same as a fender jazz bass
Not exactly, You can put a Sire MM neck on a Fender body but you can not put a Fender neck on a Sire body. The Sire pocket is a little rounder on the edges.
thanks for the info, keep on funking!!
4.05 min.....WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
огонек!!!
No idea what you said. Just support @
Can anybody tell me what is the name of the track?
Alex Atanassov detroit off renaisance
errrrr so this is a Jim Dunlop video at Namm, is Marc using any pedal at all here? Ha ha
One of the few who can carry off a pork pie hat too .
*You can tell that he's been playing Bass since he was on his mother's womb.*
What's the name of song he played exactly?
+zell baltasar detroit it's his own song
Detroit .... :) !!!!!
I challenge Dunlop and Marcus Miller to play something using my technique..this challenge is and will be issued to all of those who create nothing of their own (playing the bass) yet have recognition for being "groundbreaking technicians"
fire coming out of that poor bass
It's to thin sounding missing that fender depth
if you fool around with the mid control you will get that depth
You must be joking! Did you even listen?
kk
too much comp
He stopped using his signature Fender....sigh..
isn't it called sire?
Because everyone knows fender as a great bass to play, now he needs to show how good can be the sire bass, to make the people buy it
Tbh it sells me that bass very well! It's not even expensive...
I would buy his Sire sig...if I had money.
Nah I seriously doubt it he's probably endorsing the sire since he is at the Namm convention he still plays his fender, I just saw him in concert last month and he had the sire up there and played it in a few songs but his signature jazz bass was the primary instrument

It's not his new tone :) He's displaying his Marcus Miller v7 series, which is a series of entry-level basses (500$). Don't expect top quality sound
Sounds awful. I would never buy one!! If Marcus cannot sound like Marcus, how can anyone else try too?
Craig Sinclair To each their own, but i disagree strongly. I think it sounds decent for a 500$ bass. And as for the tone; a player can't change the tone just by playing the instrument, you know that right? o.O
