You've spun up a bit of magic in this one. It is both gorgeous and wonderful-as in full of wonder. The western coast of Scotland captures the imagination, and when combined with the professionalism and artistic flourish you bring to the table... wow. You've risen above the other sailing vlogs to a place uniquely your own, and I can't wait for each episode.
You're the most overlooked sailing channel. You are far and away superior to many of the top performers. No drama, no dental floss swimwear, and no clickbait. Absolutely fabulous sailing, photography, storytelling, exhilarating sound, and visuals unmatched. Absolutely no one captures waves like you do. 👏 Thank you for sharing the world with me. 🌎
There aren't many sailing boats because most of them don't even have enough courage and knowledge of navigation to sail these tumultuous waters! Thanks for sharing.
So true. I watch another sailing channel that reports on 'incidents at sea' like collisions or yachts running aground and it really makes me appreciate how skillful Matt and Amy are. 50 000 miles and still going strong!
As kids we spent summer after summer holiday in the outer hebrides, the sense of awe from the 1st time we walked over the crest of some dunes to the view of a several mile long silver sand beach never goes away .
Fabulous, utterly fabulous. As a Scot, can I just point out that this year we had an exceptionally miserable, cold, wet and windy summer. It's not always this bad! 🙂
Walking the coastal path from Salcombe to Hope Cove when I saw you sailing in to Salcombe this morning! Love your videos, especially enjoyed recent ones around Orkney, Shetland and The Hebrides. Enjoy your time in the South West 🙂
You are now in the perfect place to see the northern lights. We can even see them from here in the Isle of Man. This year they are at their strongest as there has been a huge eruption of light particles from the sun. We are seeing images posted online from all over Britain.
I understand now why you spent all the effort to upgrade Florence, because she's perfect and you know her so well. White sand beaches there remind me of The Whitsunday Islands. ❤🇦🇺😘
For ages I've been banging on about the beaches of the west of Scotland being some of the most beautiful I've ever experienced in my life, but you guys even have an added bonus of getting to still more remote golden beaches where few humans ever tread.!! BUT - tourists take note - what makes for the ideallic "South-Sea-Islands" paradise in Scotland is entirely dependant on the visitor's patience - as you guys clearly pointed out - the weather.! I've always been lucky with the weather - what I saw was paradise indeed, the water so clear it was like wading through mineral water!!! Without a wet-suit, I let the water just come up to my waist. Many beaches are lagoon shallow so you can wade out quite far, with your feet still on the silky soft sand. The sand bars that you guys observed, help in forming such lagoons. If the sun is hot enough, the water will warm up a little, but this year has been bad throughout, even in the south (I have heard the worst for a decade). Sail on, good friends - and these days land is always ahoy!!
Your story-telling and cinematography are top shelf, beautiful! Absolutely the best. And no one shows a grand ocean swell as you do. Also, the music is perfect. Thank you!
Been following Florence for years and the production quality just keeps getting better and better. As a Scot that left my homeland 26years ago to work abroad I particularly enjoyed this one!🏴⛵️
As a British sailor myself, the reason I like to sail south (despite loving Scotland) is exactly as you mentioned, the weather, windy, stormy and cold. Give me warmth and sunshine every time! Loving following your trip!
Ah such memories, I can almost remember where we were battling at the times you were battling the weather. What a summer it wasn’t. Your summary of life sailing Scotland this year is incredibly accurate. 2 days exploring for every 5 bunkered down somewhere. Not great sleep and not relaxing, but those good days were definitely magical.
We are Scottish and just started sailing 2 years ago. We bought a wee 36 footer and sailed to Lewis and Harris this summer. We kept looking out for you guys but I think we were a few weeks behind you. We have spent a life time working in the outdoors in Scotland and this summer has been the worst weather we can remember. Talking g to fishermen and locals in various ports everyone is saying g the same. Last year we spent the whole summer going to round the inner Hebridies and we hardly had a rainy day. You will need to come back next summer! We love following you guys... we have watched every episode and learned so much. Thank you
We will be at least passing through Scotland next year, we plan to pause in Shetland on our way to the Arctic, so hopefully we will enjoy some more Scottish sunshine then!
Just gorgeous...Beautiful, inaccessible glorious scenery. Thank you so much....There is very little to compare with you guys on youtube. Or anywhere else... Stunning xx🤗🤗
It is a great pleasure to watch the two of you SAILING! Cold, rainy weather (snow in your future I hope), has its reward in the few sunny days. Thank you for taking the time to record and edit the video. Well done!
I'm so glad I Patreon your videos, as they are top quality. Really, loved this episode. Looking forward to seeing the Isle of Skye next time. I really wish you both all the best.
I love your videos and have followed for years. I cant wait until you start sailing around the world once more. You have the best content and videos on utube and you set the standard for other channels to try to reach.
In the god knows how many years and 50 000 miles since I have been following your adventures I have never seen you guys sporting the remotest sun tan and yet here you are in Scotland, the bleakest, coldest corner of the British isles looking tanned and very Californian …. Great video as always many, many thanks !
Billy Connoly talks of the Hebrides and of the sunny days when the beaches are golden and the water is so turquoise you could be forgiven for thinking you are in the Caribbean - but you are swiftly disabused of the notion when the water reaches your scrotum!
Fantastic videography, no-one captures the sea state like you! Can't wait for Skye - I climbed a lot in the Cuillins in my twenties so got to know it quite well, truly one of the most beautiful places in the world. And they produce a pretty decent single malt...
I had no idea parts of Scotland were so gorgeous 😮. You guys create quite the best sailing videos. Makes me wonder if youre professional videographers. Thanks guys ❤oh and I’d love to see more about your meals onboard.
Terrific episode. Great sailing & information. A real sailor's video. I was just dreaming about Scotland last night.... a woman asked me about Skye.... I guess I need to go back sooner than I expected. What's interesting about places like St Kilda (and I've only seen videos), is that it appears only somewhat interesting on land. You can take a small ferry which is mostly local people - that would be a huge plus. But to sail to St Kilda, there in lies the magic. The thing I always try to keep in mind is that modern sailing while easier and much safer, it remains essentially the same as it's always been, wind, sea, tide and sailing.
Agree re your ability to get the size of the waves, I remember your north atlantic videos-- I also enjoy watching you tack-- she is clearly a very satisfying boat to sail and tacks wonderfully.
The only improvement would be showing more chart/map snippets so that one can better see in the video where you are. Even with a chart nearby it still leaves some guessing. Otherwise - perfect!
Agreed, the Scottish outer isles are stunning when the weather is good. Skye will be interesting as it's also got so much history eg: Macleods & McDonalds. ps: Love the Puffin cushion in the boat - we are very fond of Puffins down here in Beaumaris:)
Good to see your Western isles experience i worked the coast for over 30 years so can closely relate to what you are doing. Managed St Kilda times mind met a bloke who tried 18 times and never made it!
Just breath taking. Have you thought about using the same aspect ratio you use in your intro for the whole video? It looks good on a phone screen and bloody amazing on my home cinema screen.
We set off to dive St Kilda 4 times, made it three times, and every time was very sketchy, coming back through the sound of Harris it was so rough our cabin door was wrenched off its hinges we were on a converted ex-herring drifter into a dive boat, the boat was sound if we weren't🤑
Don't know what motivates you to do this, why do you bother? it all looks terrible! all that uncertainty and change and new things? I'm sat in my little office at home getting ready for work tomorrow. While your suffering those views, I'll be on the 07:09 train into Manchester, I'll arrive at the office just before 8 and ill do exactly what I do every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be the same, Friday is a bit scary as I've got a day off, i think i might tidy the shed! 😆 Another amazing video, watching your adventures got me through Covid and so much more, If you're every passing Bolton you're welcome here. Take care.
Wonderful work as usual. May I ask how is your staysail sheet is rigged? Dyneema core braid with a brummel eye and a soft shackle on the end of the Dyneema? Looks brilliant. I have a cutter and that attachment looks like it would work fantastically on tacking. the yankee/genoa through the slot.
I must say, during your intro music, when the bass does a deep dive, it must hit 3Hz frequency, because it causes me to involuntarily soil myself. That's uncomfortable. Is that true? Nope, not at all. But I ran out of adjectives to describe how awesome all aspects of your videos are so thought I would mix it up a bit. Thanks!!
Just wondering how you prepare for the long walks (hikes ) what safety precautions do you take & do carry an eperb. ? Love your videos definitely 💯 above almost every other ones out there And I enjoy your ability with sailing your 28ft. In big seas, not many go out & tac in heavy seas, you definitely have a rhythm together! Thanks until next time 🇨🇦Cdn. Dave
A question, your single line reefing do you have both luff and leech reefing lines or is it single line in -boom reefing. I cant quite make it out from watching you taken in a reef. If its just one line which system is it and do you recommend it . Thanks. The best proper sailing channel been watching you for years, best wishes Nick
Reefs 1 & 2 are single line. Reef 3 is two line as there is not enough room in the boom to take up the slack on reef 3. Florence was already set up like that when we bought her and it has worked very well for over 50,000 miles. We definitely recommend being able to reef the sails without leaving the safety of the cockpit.
I live on the east coast been a really crap elongated april rain and more rain. If we had four or five days of sun I bet hose pipe ban. HAHAHA The east coast is stunning no better but weather needs to be right.
I wish YT had awards for their creators for videography! I love watching your channel! Sailing Florence has the most spectacular scenes of all the 58 sailing channels I follow! I can't thank you enough for the feelings that gives me! Amy's striped jersey is also part of the uniform for the Russian Spetsnaz! It is their Special Forces like the British SAS. Make sure you wear it, if, and when, you sail into the Baltic or Black Seas. At this time in the US, the term "The Sound of Harris" elicits a feeling of nausea brought on by a cacophony of cackling! ;) But it won't be for much longer.
Absolutely brilliant. I live near Inverness but over the last 30 years I have been to at least some of the places you have been to in my 21ft boat. You capture the feeling of being persistently hunted by bad weather very well. I love your photography and the music. Where is the harbour you show at minute 18?
@@SailingYachtFlorence Ahhh- in that case I've been there !(a long time ago). It has the most dangerous 400 yards of road in the world for pedestrians as all the young lads drive their cars up and down it at great speed on a Friday night!
Hi Matt, I love watching you and Amy. But please, at the start of your TH-cam video, can you get it right if you are the one doing the introduction? Please say your name last. Like this is Amy and Matt, not Matt and Amy. You both do it, so please say it right.
I subscribed for great video shots of coast lines, not to see extreme locations like the most Northern, Western etc. boring rock. Please focus on your strength which is the filming of beauty.

@@stevelambert7496 Thank you. I mean every word. 🫡
What channels have the dental floss swimwear....purely for research purposes of course.....?.
And the fantastic Hallberg-Rassy 37' has matching great character!!
As always great cinematography and storytelling.
Been following you for years and I think it worth mentioning that your videography has become exceptional.

As sailors, we noticed ;-) but as you can see the bits in between the wet and windy times were stunning, so thank you Scotland :-)
Man must have eased off on his global warming crusade 😁
we totally agree

A visitor from the future! Love it!
You are true sailors and prove it by where you sail, the Indian Ocean , wild coast of Southern Africa and now Scotland. Fabulous episode. Thank-you!!
Just stunning. So rare to see people cruising the outside of the Outer Hebrides.
Hoping to be there ourselves summer 2026
Florence on Friday night, Tally Ho on Saturday - the perfect weekend.
