    I have this helmet and I fully recommend it. The lights are bright, the helmet is quiet and comfy. I’ve never had an inbuilt sun visor before, i’d never turn back.

      The lights don't seem to work in my helmet. Just purchased it recently and when I tried to turn on by pressing the button the light doesn't come on. When I press for the second time it flashes 3 times then goes off. When I press the button the third time then the light stays on constantly for about 3 to 4 seconds then turns off. I have charged the battery the entire night as well. Am I missing anything or the helmet isn't working properly? Can anyone share some insight about this ? Thank you!

    Thanks for the review. I watched it again on buying the helmet as the chin LEDs were not working - thankfully you covered the removal of the lining that showed the battery and controller.. on checking mine, I saw that one of the connectors was unplugged. All sorted now! Thanks again, and good work on the thorough review.

    After a few years of grounding, I wanna go back on my bike and started to get new gear. Tried a few helmets in a store yesterday and the i3 was the only one that checked all the boxes (Sorted by priority: Internal Sunscreen, Comms/Headphone compatible, Quiet) and was also the most comfortable one of all helmets under 400€ I tested. The lights are a great bonus I will play with although I don't expect them to last too long to be honest. Its a nice gimmick though. Thanks for your review to confirm a good choice :)

    Thank you Tony for this review. Can anybody comment on the brightness of this at night time? The lights look very subdued and tiny. I’m looking at another product for $150 that attaches to any helmet and looks very bright (larger surface area of light) compared to these integrated ones. I’m concerned that somebody from 50 feet behind me will not be able to see me with the Shark lights on.

      I didn't have any problems with noise while reviewing this helmet, but I always wear earplugs. The helmet's shape is only one factor in noise, so I couldn't say what noise would be like in anyone's particular circumstances. Thanks for getting in touch. Cheers, Tony

    Great review as always! I’ve had my eyes on the d’skwal 3 since I don’t usually ride at night andI’ve been wondering if they are the same in terms of specs and performance, more importantly the noise isolation.. also I saw that the intercom slot on the i3 is a lot deeper than the d’skwal 3 wiuld these affect the installation of a 40mm speaker? I have the sena spider st1 that’s why

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, my experience of both helmets is that they're the same for noise. In terms of intercoms, I have a D-Skwal 3 and a Spider ST1 here - the speakers fit beautifully. As for the control unit, you'll probably need to use the self-adhesive plate rather than the clamp, but there's nothing wrong with that method. Thanks for this, just noticed there was a 3rd version.
    I still have my v1 helmet. Thought it looked good.
    My only issue with many helmets is I have asthma. I generally find breathing with most helmets quite restrictive. At most I need to ride with one click up on the visor especially with the skwal which had the added chin guard that could be removed although I did prefer that for slight noise reduction.
    Anyone had a helmet that gave decent air flow that isn't modular, faceless or off road e duro style??

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You've ruled out the three styles of helmet that usually allow the best ventilation to the mouth. Have you considered an adventure helmet in street mode? Helmets like the Scorpion ADX-2 or ADF-9000 Air, or Bell MX-9 Adventure, have good ventilation on the front thanks to their motocross origins, but can be converted to run without the peak. If that's not suitable, take a look at a Schuberth S3 or HJC i71 as I found the chin ventilation to be good on those helmets. Cheers, Tony

    Out of curiosity J&S sells this with a pinlock max vision inside the box why do yours have a pinlock70 ?
    For me This helmet is great looking and I was about to buy it for its safety, style, stability and unique led lights safety feature...
    But, when researching for a ECE 22.06 norm helmet to replace my old 22.05 but quiet and super stable at any speed rpha 70 (only 99db at 65mph) it just missed the mark for sound isolation with 101db at 65mpg, subpar ventilation where its +1C inside vs outside whereas with the hjc i71 there's no difference outside vs inside temperature and so its neutral and better ventilated.
    In this skwal i3 there is also no emergency quick release cheekpads system, its only a polycarbonate shell (aguarbly not the safest material)with 2 shell sizes, That chin curtain is made of such a cheap material and has a very bad ergonomic cut so much so that it violently scratched my face everytime I tried it on, also that ratchet lock strap can be accidentally closed upsidedown making it useless in case of an accident and so for all these reasons my racional mind told me to go with an I71 instead...
    But, a few more online reviews saying it starts to fly off your head when at 70/80mph + and that under heavy downpours it leaks water through the top of the visor I started gravitating more towards the skwal i3 despite all the above mentioned downsides...
    Conclusion is that I will endup sticking some motosafe tour earplugs on and buying this one that actually:
    Is 100gr lighter than the I 71,
    has a better visor(more detent levels and a small gap detent for city riding or 'city position' and easy open/close action) and an antifog coated sunvisor for those below zero cold UK winter days,
    has been apparently designed using aerodinamic algorithms and then tested on a windtunel for stability (hence that super cool rear spoiler) and has that additional visibility bonus of the led lights adding a super cool and unique factor...
    All of this hoping that in 2 or 3 years time it surpasses my disappointing sharp 3 stars rpha 70 and gets 5stars as all ECE 22.06 are rummored to get...
    Its not perfect no... Far from it... But if my research proves right this may well be one of safest entrylevel helmets on the market for the price! Only surpassed in ventilation and quietness by the spartan rs and the scorpion exo 1400 evo air which have double d ring unpractical closure systems for touring/commuting and no lights...
    Ride safe,
    Dr. Marco.

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's perfectly possible, and common, to have a Pinlock 70 insert that is also Max Vision. The number refers to the grade of protection (30 is minimum, 70 is regular and 120 is maximum). Max Vision refers to the amount of the visor that's protected. With Max Vision the visor itself is designed to allow the Pinlock's top edge to sit flush with the inner surface of the visor. This allows it to sit higher within the eyeport without striking the visor seal as it sweeps past. This alleviates the 'letterbox' problem with earlier Pinlocks, and latter-day Pinlock 30 inserts.
      Also, I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that all 22.06 helmets will be 5* SHARP. Someone who knows more about helmet design, manufacture and testing than I could ever hope to learn has told me they expect 22.06 helmets will achieve at least 4*, but not necessarily 5*. Cheers, Tony

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We figured these reviews were long enough already without adding how-to elements. While you wait for us to find time to do that video, there's a button on each mount with either an L or R (for left or right). With the helmet in front of you on a flat surface, visor pointing away from you, depress the L and R buttons till you hear a click. Then over-rotate the visor towards you and pull each side clear. Reverse the process to refit. For more detail, here's the owners manual... support.shark-helmets.com/files/manuals/Manuel_Skwal%20i3_V3_04oct23_Multi_Langues.pdf

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think that's a legitimate concern. I believe you'd need to use the glue plate mount for the intercom, and it would need to sit forward of the contour in the helmet shell. I think it will end up sat quite a way forward if you're to avoid the contour and the button for the lights. Cheers, Tony

    • @sportsbikeshop

      The noise level and type varies hugely by bike and rider so I don't get involved in direct comparisons like that. I didn't find the Skwal i3 particularly noisy, but I always wear earplugs (Auritech) and I kinda think of helmet noise as part and parcel of riding a bike. Cheers, Tony

      We weigh the helmets for review and in a size medium this one is 1638g. We weighed an i70 (medium) in 2021 at 1519g. For context, the i70 has now been replaced by the i71 and we weighed that (again, medium) at 1745g. It shows that helmets are getting heavier since the introduction of the new ECE 22.06 safety standard. Cheers, Tony
