This Is The Official Flag For Every District in Lango
If I was to ask you, “By the way, what are you guys known for? What do you do that’s unique to your district that would make me want to come and visit your district or do business with you?
What’s so symbolic there that you would boldly put in your district flag and proudly fly it at your district headquarters?
    How would you answer that?
Am Ongwen Laodog. And as a heritage enthusiast, I have been thinking about it too. I gave it a long and hard thought and came up with what I think should represents all the districts of Lango. Kole, Oyam, Lira, Alebtong, Otuke, Dokolo, Amolatar, Apac and Kwania.
The Lango oral tradition states that they were part of the "Lango race" during the migration period. This group later split into several distinct groups before entering Uganda[4] (see Tarantino, Odwe, Crazollara, Uzoigwe). The name “Lango” is found in Teso, Kumam, Karamojong, Jie, and Labwor vocabularies, reflecting that how these groups once used to belong to the Lango race.[4]
"The Lango is especially noted for the care bestowed on their elaborate and highly fantastic head-dress. The prevailing fashion may be described as a kind of a helmet... Lango women, who amongst the finest and most symmetrical of the Equatorial lake regions, wear little clothing or embellishments beyond west-bands, necklaces, armlets, and anklets" (p. 360).
    Icaya (Isaya) Ogwangguji, M.B.E.
Rwot Ogwangguji was born in 1875 in Abedpiny village in Lira District (Okino, Patrick, and Odongo, Bonney). He was the son of a Rwot (chief) - Rwot Olet Apar, the leader of the Oki clan.[8] His first administrative chief title was the Jago (sub-chief) of Lira. In 1918, he was elected county chief (Rwot) by Erute county, Lango. He continued as Rwot of Erute county until February 28, 1951, and was later promoted to the title of Rwot Adwong (Senior Chief). Rwot Ogwangguji is known as a chief who bridged "old Lango" into "new Lango" through his extensive work history during a period of many changes in the 20th century in Uganda. He was awarded the M.B.E. in the New Year's Honors in 1956 and subsequently retired in December 1957. (Wright, M.J., Uganda Journal, Vol. 22, Issue 2, 1958).
The Lango army was united under one military leader chosen from available men, and all had to agree to be led by him.[6][4] These military leaders would lead the Lango army against other groups. Their authority ended when the war was over, and they all returned to their clans and resumed their daily occupations and were not entitled to any special benefits. Famous military leaders were Ongora Okubal, who brought the Lango to their present land, Opyen who succeeded Ongora Okubal and was followed by Arim Oroba, and Agoro Abwango. Agoro Abwango led his men to fight the Banyoro and was killed in Bunyoro.[9] The Lango oral literature has it that as the soldiers who went to help Kabalega retreated towards the Nile, they helped Kabalega and Mwanga, the deposed King of Bunyoro and Buganda respectively cross the Nile River.[6] They were moved along the northern corridor of Lake Kwania. At the time, a warrior called Obol Ario who had conquered much of the northern part of the lake was there. It's believed he helped smuggle the two deposed kings towards Dokolo, where they settled at Kangai. Obol Ario of Apac Okwero Ngec Ayita Clan eventually settled at Amac where he later died and was buried.

    Great effort and insights.
I wish we could leave rice for Dokolo because of the existing Olweny rice scheme and recognize Alebtong for the preservation of great traditional dances, music and folklore .
We shall have avoided repeating rice but spiced it with the fast fading traditional ancestry.

    What minerals are in Lango?
The areas of Kwera subcounty in Dokolo has water that cannot be consumed. Some areas have salty water. A number of boreholes drilled have been abandoned because of the saltines.
Kwera also has Akwana.. that is mainly used for decorating huts... What kind of mineral is that?
Please help explore minerals in Lango... Apwoyo

In lango region, you be able to pick a glass of Mango juice, eat Rice with fish. Get tomatoes and spices. Matoke and beef then cooking palm oil.

Yes Alebtong has the most aromatic rice I know of. Look for it in Lira market and try. You will thank me later. All tha neighbours children will run to your home. That's how strong the smell is.

I suggest you organize fund raising for construction of a mussium, library and hotel in one place. It can help in:
    (1) promoting anthropological research and reading.
    (2) conservation of culture
    (3) promoting tourism - the dishes have caused me to salivate. Tourist (both blacks and whites) will pour to lango.
    (4) promoting education on african affairs.

I strongly agree with you in Alebtong, Otuke and Amolatar. Apac, Kwania, Kole and Oyam Yes but not so much as for Dokolo, I strongly disagree first we are already known for cassava roasting country wide secondly Rice has never been economic player in Dokolo. I wish you could have mentioned Cassava, simsim, sunflower and Maizes farming in Dokolo, I would be at peace.

    • @ocanlameck5640

Thanks for the compliments. I know you are mentioning cassava roasting as a joke. But those other crops, are not unique enough. There are other districts known already for producing them. Olweny is simply under utelised. Otherwise it coould be the real deal.

    • @the_miltonian
      @the_miltonian  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

True, alot of people in Doholo cultivate maize (am not sure about cassava), but the purpose of the video is to potray the unique atribute. That atribute may not be running at full capacity but should have potential for scalability. Dokolo might be producing maize but Nwoya district, Kiryandongo and Mubende do more maize thatn Dokolo.
