Absolutely the best steak I’ve made on my cast iron. It was a frozen NY strip from Wallyworld, nothing special. I followed the instructions exactly and it came out amazing. Don’t sleep on this people.
* Preheat cast iron for 5 min medium heat * Add frozen steak- flip every 2 mins 6 times (12 min total) * Remove, add salt and pepper, rest 10 mins * Pan to high add 2 TBSP oil * Sear steak 1 min each side * Add 2 TBSP butter, 4 garlic cloves, fresh rosemary and thyme, baste steak for 30 secs. Move herbs and garlic on top of steak if burning * Rest 10 mins then slice
Just tried this with an excess strip steak that I froze yesterday. It absolutely works. Looked and tasted the exact same, if not better than the fresh steaks from last night's dinner. Thank you Ninha!
All the little things that you add in answer so much! Like pouring the butter on the garlic...or how much garlic you use and how much butter you use. It all makes a difference to those learning like me!
Thank you so much! I’m trying to focus more on those little details some times I forget to mention as I know it does make a big difference. Glad you enjoyed it. This one!
Omg, I watched this video a few times to get the grasp of it and it works. I pulled some flap steak out of the freezer and followed this recipe to the T, I was shocked how dang flavorful and tender it was, I use well seasoned iron skillets that were my mothers. I sautéed sliced bell peppers and red onions on the side …
The first video I saw of yours was a catch and cook video where you took the boys fishing and caught all sorts of things. I hope to see more of those videos! These are good, don't get me wrong, and your editing/compositing skills are much improved over that first one, but the first one offered adventure! Keep up the good work!
I'm working on it, the boat has been one of the things I put less attention to with all the craziness of last year but something that I need to tackle soon... I miss those days too!
I’m a year late but thanks for making this video man my cousin and i are in our early 20s and very new to cooking and this helped us make a dinner that looked like a real home cooked meal
OK, now I’ve done this twice and both times my steak was the perfect medium rare. Don’t be tempted to deviate from this recipe. I wouldn’t set the stove any higher than four or medium. You might even try medium low. I don’t deviate two minutes on each side turning the steak a total of six times. Let it rest and then sear it again at the end exactly like the recipe, and you will have a perfect steak every time!
i know there are people who have mastered their favorite cut of steak, and have their own preferences for spice and sides. Salt and pepper is often the end of it all but for those of you who have not quartered up a lime and tried a bite, limes aren't strictly slated to tacos. Try it.
i love these common helpful tip videos, they improve cooking for basic cooks like me thank you!!!, i also love the experiments a cool one i would love to see is trying every method of getting that SMOKY flavour we all love on one steak to see if we can get the smokiest steak ever or if it goes up in flames hahaha.
This is the exact method I use, except I put the cast iron on the grill. I rarely order steaks at restaurants because I can make one just as good if not better at home!
Beautiful steak Ninja. My brother in-law asked earlier if I wanted to go fishing with him. I told him I don’t like fish enough to want to catch and clean them. I did say if he was going to go cow hunting. I’m in !
Not all hero's wear capes but maybe you should buy one BC this video was so helpful and will save me when I want to cook steak but forget to take it out of the freezer lol
seems to be going good so far.. when i am resting it for the first time, do I close the fire, keep it at a medium, or put it to high instantly? Also put some oil right when i took the steak out, out of fear of having some burned left over pieces on the pan while resting.
My boyfriend & I cooked 4 steaks with this method all at once with one cast iron skillet! When two rests for 10 minutes, you can start the next batch easily! This method is more controlled than the other ones I’ve read. And our Sirloin steaks came out superb 🤌 It helped to have a digital thermometer. We took it off the pan at 120 degrees, so it can hit 130 for rare.
I get the feeling that this video (and lesson) might have been inspired by some emergency "Oh sh!t, what's for supper?" while Mrs. Ninja was out, and it was too late to hit up Broward Meat and Fish ;)
it takes a minute to wrap your head around the concept here, and for that little of time with a thick steak, i thought i was being pranked the first time. I imagined this charred burnt crust with an inch of rock frozen steak in the middle. i was wrong.
Honestly love this vid but it's not 15 min from zero to hero Times don't add up You said pre-heat pan = 5 mins Add steak and flip every 2 mins for total of 6 flips = 12 mins (We're already at 17 mins right there) Then rest = 10 mins (27 mins total) Seer 1 min each side = 2 min (29 min total) Add butter/spices and baste = 30 sec (29.5 min total) Rest steak = 10 min (39.5 min total)
@@SaltyTales sorry to hear that, you guys got me spending all my money grills and sous vide stuff lol, i enjoy both channels still though. Hello to ms. Ninja too
Me too, I also set my oven to low after I noticed the first and second flip. My oven range is a brand new one and it's electric so maybe I should've used a fire cooktop
How is this 15 minutes? My math has 34.5 Cook 2 min a side, flip 6 times (12 total minutes) Rest 10 (22 total) Sear each side a minute (24 total) 30 seconds butter basting (24.5) Rest 10 (34.5)
Many tests show that frozen steak cooked is better than thawed steak, but needs the technique. Just search cooking frozen steak on youtube and you'll see many videos testing it. Don't spout bullshit
Now that is very yummy yo and enjoyable plus creative and guarantee by ninja... One whole day raining and also so many cases the government. Still the government we never vote continues with their nasty on the people of Malaysia..
This is insane. Why the devil does everyone insist on these obscenely long cooking times? Two minutes on a side? It would be CRISPY BLACK! I know from experience; I've been cooking meat for twenty-seven years. Then you expect this grotesque charring to take place thrice on each side, just to start with? Sorry, I don't like charcoal for supper. It interferes with the digestion of earthlings, something which is *obviously* not a problem back in whatever star system you came here from. Better luck next time.

So flip it every 2 minutes for a total of 6 times, that makes 12 minutes. Then let it rest for 10 minutes, that makes it 22 minutes, then season it and put it back on the pan for 1 minute on each side, that makes 24 minutes. I thought this would be 15 minutes 🥲
Quick and to the point with no science or history lesson, love it
Thank you Red! 👋🏻
I wholeheartedly agree

Glad you enjoyed it brother! 😀

I also kept watching video on repeat/pause through out… I almost have it memorized!
Ty I don't know why youtubers can't figure out to put this one simple thing in the video
How long are we basting the steak?
Only 30 seconds?
I don’t know how long this phase is supposed to be.
I’m confused! 😂
This worked well on my stove. Medium low for a rare fillet. About 1.7inches uncooked. Center temp of the steak was 90 degrees.
Just tried this with an excess strip steak that I froze yesterday. It absolutely works. Looked and tasted the exact same, if not better than the fresh steaks from last night's dinner. Thank you Ninha!
I follow this recipe exactly for an inch and a half steak and it came out perfectly! Thanks for the video
Thank you wife and I were starving and just ate a frozen ribeye at 11:30 pm. Hit da spot!
This is the life I want haha
I've cooked six steaks using this method do far and they are SO GOOD! Thank you!!!!
This has changed the way I will make steak from now on. No more defrosting for an ice age (pun intended).
Great video 👍🏾

You wouldn't even know it was frozen. Great job on this tutorial! 👍
Thank you Everett, the borders in about the crust are not the best when cooking form frozen but it sure was DEEELICIOUS! 😂😂
Followed the video word for word.. only thing I did different is finish mine in the oven. Steaks came out perfect! Awesome video.
What can I use instead of butter? Don't mix meat with milk

I'm sure I was one of the people who asked! Perfect video!! Does the steak taste as good as all your cooked from fresh, steaks?? 👍🏽
It tasted great! The colors are not the best for the frozen reason but it tasted great! 😀
What is the gas grill that you used and where to buy?
I made cubed steak this way but accidentally made it a bit too well. Great video tho
Omg THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!
Your very welcome! 👊🏻
Perfect for an Afrikaner braai, 12o'clock at night after (or during) a drinking session and you ravage the freezer
LOL ravage the freezer!! 😂😂 Love it! 😂😂

Yes just make sure it comes to temp
Yes but that will take you at least a few hours… and that defeats the purpose! 😀
Wow Incredible!! Learned so much. #VRAFAM
Glad to hear that Janelle!
Does this work for steaks 3/4 to 1” thick ? Medium rare
1” and up……enjoy!
👍
Thanks brother!
@Salty Tales no big deal ... i love this kind of preparation ... really big cinema your video
Tri tip video
Cominng!
Could this ever crack the skillet due to thermal shock?
No.
Honestly love this vid but it's not 15 min from zero to hero
Times don't add up
You said pre-heat pan = 5 mins
Add steak and flip every 2 mins for total of 6 flips = 12 mins (We're already at 17 mins right there)
Then rest = 10 mins (27 mins total)
Seer 1 min each side = 2 min (29 min total)
Add butter/spices and baste = 30 sec (29.5 min total)
Rest steak = 10 min (39.5 min total)
I perfer to cook it while frozen if the steak is too thin.
That's a good point!
haven't seen you with gouga, what happened?
We moved apart and was not invited anymore. Normal process of life I guess. Nice to see you around! 😀
@@SaltyTales sorry to hear that, you guys got me spending all my money grills and sous vide stuff lol, i enjoy both channels still though. Hello to ms. Ninja too
I burnt it
Me too, I also set my oven to low after I noticed the first and second flip. My oven range is a brand new one and it's electric so maybe I should've used a fire cooktop
How is this 15 minutes?
My math has 34.5
Cook 2 min a side, flip 6 times (12 total minutes)
Rest 10 (22 total)
Sear each side a minute (24 total)
30 seconds butter basting (24.5)
Rest 10 (34.5)
Or just sous vide it, then sear it, and done.
That would take longer than 15 mins... For sure! 😂
you dont cook a frozen steak..............
you let it defrost.
Now say it again in a Gordan Ramsy voice.
Sometimes it is cook it frozen or eat some other weird thing... Time is on the essence!
This has been proven to be false. You can definitely cook a steak from frozen.
Many tests show that frozen steak cooked is better than thawed steak, but needs the technique. Just search cooking frozen steak on youtube and you'll see many videos testing it. Don't spout bullshit

It sucks brother but hopefully the rain calm the viruses and other things in the air down a bit.
There's must be a quicker way, 35 minutes is too long.
Well thaw it then.
You burned your butter
That's the reason for the oil. Oil prevents butter from burning.
This is insane.
Why the devil does everyone insist on these obscenely long cooking times?
