I'm a season ticket holder in Saginaw, I liked Doug Lidster, and the goalie was being a total diva. The goalie had a terrible night, got pulled in the middle of the game, and disrespected the coach right out in front of the entire crowd, and later on they got into it. Eventually the goalie got traded too. At the time, I was upset that they fired Coach Lidster over that.

Bottom line...players today are softer and way high maintenance...and they aren’t even as good as the guys I used to watch back in the day.

Soft yes. As far as not as good, you’re way off base. And I hate today’s hockey but the skill level has never been higher.

@@tommclarty17 uhm...nope....the last time there were more than three players score 50 goals in a sesson? 1999. Infact...starting in 96 there seems to be a decline in the number of players who reached that plateau. During the eighties there wasn’t one season where there was anything less than 6 players score fifty. Frankly its pretty obvious.

@@raymondclouston6255 You’re either trolling or you’re dumb. There were no goaltending coaches back then. There was no butterfly. The only coaching that goalies got was to ‘cut down the angle.’ That’s why if you watch Gretzky’s highlights, half his goals were slap shots just inside the blue line with the goaltender almost at the top of the circles. All that goalie needs to do is misjudge the angle by 6 inches and he’s opening up half of the net. Also, training camp back then was for getting in shape for the season. No one worked out, they drank beer all summer. You’re wrong, pal.

@@tommclarty17 Okay little fella...listen...I can’t sit here and explain fully the entirety of math and how it relates to metrics and how that relates to the finite measurements that determine silly stuff like records, and titles. I’ll make it simple. In today’s game...you will never get another Theron Fluery. The way its set up, how programmed the draft is and how it self insulates itself to the point that teams are forced to give lucrative contracts to players who haven’t proved anything. That has an anchillary effect of further forcing teams to play the players they’ve given huge contracts to regardless of their production. Its a snake that eats its own tale....dummy. This completes the lesson.

Players are brainwashed to be submissive to the coaching staff , this is why even years later they don’t see a problem with it because they are still subservient to this system .

Seriously. Everyone has had a terrible coach even if they never played past high school. Our high school baseball coach made us practice getting hit by a pitch and if you flinched or moved out of the way the next one came in even harder. These days that fucking 5'7" loser who couldn't even hack it at a JC would be rightfully fired for that dumb shit. He wasn't making people better he was just being a malicious asshole.
