  • Indonesia, a rising economic powerhouse, holds one of the lowest debt-to-GDP ratios in the world. While global giants like the US and UK drown in debt, Indonesia has kept its borrowing in check. But is this financial discipline a strategic advantage or a hidden limitation? Could a higher debt fuel even greater growth, or would it invite disaster?
    Discover in this video how Indonesia’s debt strategy has shaped its economy-and what it means for its future.

    national debt is a very sensitive issue in indonesia. if the government announcing that they will adding more debt, it will become a hot topic anywhere in the country and people will get mad because of it. this because of what happened in 1998. indonesian economy colapse because of debt. many profitable state owned company are being forced to be sold because of debt and indonesia's firstborn aircraft that 100% designed and created by indonesian being forcibly stopped from development by IMF because of debt. talkibg about national debt is a taboo among indonesian policy maker. they will be mocked if adding debt and will be praised if lowering debt

    I hate it when people talk about debt as if it's something normal. High or low, we should not normalize being in debt, wheter for Indonesia or for any other nation, wheter as a country or as an individual. We should not normalize it.
    We should be able to provide for ourself by our own money. Debt should be the last resort in critical moment for fulfill our needs and it should be paid afterward, not continue to grow.
    If we talk from religious side of it, although it is allowed, being in debt could nullify your chance of entering heaven despite doing good deeds for your entire life if you didn't pay it. So make sure you don't die before you pay all your debt, or if you died already, make sure there's someone who is willing to pay your debt.

      Edit: Found another paper that separated the spending by type and by function. Education and health exists in function but not in type which where debt interest payments is located. In type, debt interest payments is 13.73% with the biggest being 28.97% for subsidy. While in fuction, education and health is 10.56% and 2.15% with the biggest being general service at 65.62%. this is the average from 2005 and 2013. So, so, from 2005 to 2013. It's definitely not bigger than 20%
      Where did you get more than 20% anyway

    If you have good credit, a history of borrowing and repaying on time, you can take out a loan from any financial institution that offers good interest rates along with other benefits. Borrowing money is not always a bad thing ot actually a good thinh of you do it right!
    As for Indonesia, they lost their creditworthiness due to borrowing and defaulting on a massive scale during the Asian economic crisis in the 1990s with IMF issue. That is why Indonesia's credit rating is only BBB, compared to Malaysia's A- and Singapore's AAA.....
    If there is one lesson Indonesia should learn, it is to avoid over-reliance on loans, especially from overseas which they're doing very well.

However, I should point out that Prabowo's plans to relax the debt limit is a continuation of Jokowi's stance. If you checked your graph, you'll realize our debt to gdp ratio started growing again in 2015-2019, this is basically Jokowi's first period. Jokowi couldn't continue to borrow at the same accelerating rate in his second term due to covid. It's still too soon to call what Prabowo's policies will be since he just got elected.

    Simple question, if Indonesia debts are so low, why its currency value increase so slow compared towards to USA allies although all USA allies are having higher inflation than Indonesia. However, this will not apply when Indonesia debts are so high. When this situation happens, at sudden, Rp goes free fall, Re: 1998.

    • @IricAlexis
      @IricAlexis 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      it's part of indonesian policy, since they are using USD as their saving, they deemed it as "unwise" to get it lower than Rp.15k so they try to stabilize it at that number. since they joins BRICS now, if they could change their national saving currency, then GG USD.

    • @MSDGroup-ez6zk
      @MSDGroup-ez6zk 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @IricAlexis Indonesia saving? LoL. Nope. There is no rule in Indonesia nor in the world that USD should be a must saving currency.
      Until Indonesia has no natural resources, Rp will be no value at all, similar to all non-USA allies, especially the ones with natural resources. This is according to a book published in the 1960s by an officer from the US foreign affairs department. I can not recall the title of that book.
      That's why being a democratic and capitalist country like Indonesia is a wrong decision. You see now, with very low currency, oil was gone sold at a very low rate. This makes Indoensia have no options to buy whatever oil price sold by the US and its allies. Indonesia also can not be rich as no one can surpass the US GDP. Especially when its all economic ministers graduate from US universities, thanks to Suharto.

      @@MSDGroup-ez6zk There is no rule in Indonesia nor in the world that USD should be a must saving currency. that is fact, but since they decide to change gold with USD on 1998 crisis, it's hard just to flip another thousand billion saving or debt on USD to anything else in short amount of time. And why indo have to buy oil from US and their allies again??
      oh and adding why they change to USD on 1998 crisis, that is because they have large debt that has to be pay in USD. like in the video they have 80% dept to GDP at that time. at that time maybe that is the most make sense for them. dunno.

      Indonesian debt is 2.5X of their annual budget.
      If using an annual budget, then a lot of countries are much worse than that.
      Take for example:
      - Malaysia
      Annual budget, 2024 = 88.69 billion USD (393.8 billion MYR).
      Debt, Sept 2024 = 306 billion USD or 345% of the annual budget.
      - Indonesia
      Annual budget, 2024 = 170.21 billion USD (2781.3 trillion IDR).
      Debt, Sept 2024 = 428 billion USD or 251 of the annual budget.
      Source: CEIC (debt), XE (currency exchange).
      There's a good reason why the debt ratio mainly uses GDP instead of anything else, you can look it up using the internet.

      saat ini Indonesia telah fokus pada energi, pemenuhan energi dalam negeri, membangun beberapa kilang minyak di setiap wilayah dan smelter emas tembaga di sebagian pulau, dan kami juga memiliki proyek, kelapa sawit menjadi biodiesel, sebagai pengganti solar, sedang membangun kawasan pertanian 1 juta hektar, dan puluhan unit perumahan murah, sekitaranya 2030 akan 100% selesai..
      lihat beberapa proyek di vidio yang saya posting.
      walaupun itu sebagian investasi dari barat tapi itu berdampak jika selesai.

    Ironically, Indonesians are always talking about the rise of the amount of their country's debt yet nullifying the GDP, the amount they generate from the debt. So as long as what we are harvesting are much that what are borrowing, it's okay. I mean, not a big deals. Also, the government have considered the debt management. Menyala Bangsaku 🔥

    Missnaration...this is not totally correct since state enterprise debt & civil servant pension is not included, otherwise the ratio approximately 100%...this is why current administration under probowo is aggresively cutting expense budget
