The original song Lingsir Wengi was composed by Sunan Kalijaga (1460-1513), born as Raden Mas Said son of a Duke of Tuban in East Java Province, Indonesia, was one of the "nine saints" of Javanese Islam (Walisongo). This song originally served as a medium for preaching Sunan Kalijaga and usually sung after performing the evening prayers to God. Campursari is a genre of javanesse traditional music. Literally campur : mix, sari : essence/essentials. While lingsir wengi means : approaching midnight. Very old song. In here, many believed that this song somehow has a hidden supernatural powers. And some believed that it’s used to summon the dead spirit. Campursari is Indonesian traditional music, where usually is played by a group of people performing different kind of music instruments.. that is why kinda hard to cover it with guitar, yet Alif can play it well..

Classic traditional Javanese music is pentatonic. It has many genres based on the rhymes, tones & themes. So you have to master the 'formula' first to create the expected genre. It played with traditional instruments ensemble called 'Gamelan'. The arrangement Alip played called 'campursari', a fusion of gamelan & modern instruments. The song title means 'When the Night Has Come'. And 'Lingsir Wengi' is a sad romance song that beautifully written with old & poetic words that currently not much being spoken by Javanese themselves. And Alip did amazing. It sounds very similar with the original campursari that supposed to be played with many instruments.
