and in 3rd when winston convinces him to fight back elder and high table... winston says "who do you wish to die as baba yaga the man many men see before they die... or as a man who was loved and loved by his wife.... who do you wish to die as" and saying he will sell his soul to high table if he makes this choice and be a servant of high table...... john chose not to kill winston.
