  • In today’s video, I’m going to talk about why the 'D&D is dead' mentality is not just wrong,
but honestly harmful to the game we all love.
We’ll talk about why what we say matters, and why D&D, whether it’s 5th edition or any other version,
is way bigger than Hasbro, Wizards of the Coast, or D&D Beyond.

Thankfully most people don't pay heed to the online dramaturgists

I agree for the most part that is great, but when we put things out for the masses, sometimes we have to account for the lowest common denominator.

I just find it entertaining that, instead of engaging with the community and trying to understand what players actually want, the accounting "geniuses" at WotC and Hasbro think that forcing a new ruleset, attacking every and any VTT that uses their content, and repeatedly trying to mess with the OGL stuff in various ways is the answer.
I suppose they will find out the hard way that DnD and TTRPGs in general are a game that can absolutely just be played with imagination and some good 'ol pen and paper, and none of the community needs their dramatics to actually have fun. A lot of us got our start in 3.5E without spending a dime, and I doubt any of us would have a problem just going back to that if they continue to bite the hand that feeds.

Very well said, yeah, it is funny that companies don’t realize just how much more they would make if they gave people what they wanted. instead they pretend to know better just because they’re in charge and not trust anyone with hands-on experience and you’re right they best tread carefully or they will find out just how quickly it’s not D&D that has been the big important thing, it’s playing games and having a community that you have fun with that brings everyone back to the table time and time again. And there are many games that can facilitate that and the table top space is no longer ignorant to that fact.

Changes I've made? I made my own system

Hell yeah, I have definitely considered that myself, did you choose to make it a derivative of any other system did you stick with the D20? Curious what systems inspired it.

I barely use a D20 honestly. My skill checks are D100, hazard is D4, damage is D6/D8, ...
I'm not 100% done with my system yet, but it's enough to be playable while I keep working on the missing stuff outside of sessions. And to answer the question, I try and come up with everything myself, no copy-pasting anything from any system. Even when a system has a mechanic that I like, I'll take the basic idea and homebrew it a lot until it feels like my own and not a copy-paste
